There is something unique about Only When I Laugh, or Only When I Larf, in the original English printing, the first non-spy novel written by Len Deighton. It reads much more like a short story or even a short play than a novel but that’s also what makes it fun to read.

The movie was barely in theaters when the negative tweets and reviews started to come across my radar. But it didn’t deter me. I still went to see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And there are no spoilers in this post as I don’t want to deter any of you from watching it either.

Is this a short story that reads like a novel or a novel that reads like a short story? Either way it’s difficult to pin down exactly why An Expensive Place to Die is a quick and fun read except to say that it was written by Len Deighton, and if you like his stuff, you like his stuff.

The universe that was first introduced to the world back on May 25th, 1977, is officially back in theaters with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, it was what a movie experience should be. It has some humor, it made me cry (yes, I’m not ashamed), and it enthralled me to no end.

The fourth and final novel in the unnamed spy series by Len Deighton, The Billion Dollar Brain, is brilliant.
