00:01:10:00 – 00:01:11:50
Agent Palmer
Hello, and welcome to the Palmer Files.
00:01:11:52 – 00:01:13:09
Agent Palmer
I’m your host, Jason Stershic.
00:01:13:11 – 00:01:17:42
Agent Palmer
Also known as Agent Palmer. And on this 65th episode is Jason Collins.
00:01:17:51 – 00:01:24:38
Agent Palmer
As you’ll hear, Jason and I are friends from college. That’s where we met. And shortly after that time is where we parted ways.
00:01:24:38 – 00:01:33:37
Agent Palmer
But we have reconnected. Which is why you could say this episode is just two skinny kids named Jason talking about the days gone by, the days in between, and coming back.
00:01:33:37 – 00:01:35:23
Agent Palmer
Together after not talking for a long.
00:01:35:23 – 00:01:38:47
Agent Palmer
Time. We also discussed the nature of friendship.
00:01:38:52 – 00:01:40:22
Agent Palmer
Our careers in information.

Agent Palmer
Reminisce.
00:01:45:09 – 00:01:52:52
Agent Palmer
About old technologies. Caution. This may get technically geeky. The best kind of geeky, but you.
00:01:52:52 – 00:01:55:59
Agent Palmer
Will learn about technology and where we’ve come from.
00:01:56:04 – 00:01:57:48
Agent Palmer
Anyway. All of that and much.
00:01:57:48 – 00:02:01:24
Agent Palmer
Much more is headed your way shortly. But first, remember if you want.
00:02:01:24 – 00:02:02:49

Agent Palmer
Jason, you and.
00:02:32:27 – 00:02:33:30
Agent Palmer
I were a rhythm.
00:02:33:30 – 00:02:38:38
Agent Palmer
Section together a long time ago. Yep, yep, you were the second.
00:02:38:43 – 00:02:43:22
Agent Palmer
And dare I say, better? Jason, I played drums with.
00:02:43:27 – 00:02:46:55
Jason Collins
You, referring to somebody who used to beat the heads of the drums.
00:02:46:55 – 00:02:47:46
Jason Collins
Way too hard.
00:02:47:46 – 00:02:55:18
Jason Collins
Yes, yes, I wore a lot of black. Yep, yep. I yeah. Well, that’s, That’s good, I guess.
00:02:55:23 – 00:02:57:46
Jason Collins
I mean, thanks, thanks for the compliment.
00:02:57:46 – 00:02:59:12
Agent Palmer
You still you still playing?
00:02:59:16 – 00:03:00:50
Jason Collins
No. Not yet.
00:03:01:01 – 00:03:05:47
Agent Palmer
Yeah. So back then, I was just a skinny kid with.
00:03:05:47 – 00:03:06:35
Agent Palmer
Long hair playing.
00:03:06:35 – 00:03:08:54
Agent Palmer
Bass. And you were just a skinny kid with long.
00:03:08:54 – 00:03:09:59
Agent Palmer
Hair playing drums.
00:03:10:04 – 00:03:12:30
Jason Collins
Yeah, that was it. That was it.
00:03:12:35 – 00:03:26:24
Agent Palmer
What the. I look back and have can say with honesty. I had no idea what I was going to do going forward. Did you? I mean, you were because I was one of those waif.
00:03:26:24 – 00:03:26:52
Agent Palmer
Carrying.
00:03:26:52 – 00:03:27:46
Agent Palmer
Communications.
00:03:27:46 – 00:03:29:22
Agent Palmer
Liberal arts majors. You were.
00:03:29:22 – 00:03:30:50
Agent Palmer
Actually you had a major.
00:03:30:50 – 00:03:31:51
Agent Palmer
That was real.
00:03:31:53 – 00:03:32:05
Agent Palmer
Like.
00:03:32:05 – 00:03:33:59
Agent Palmer
You. You were in it, major, right?
00:03:33:59 – 00:03:46:21
Jason Collins
Yeah. Not at first, though. I went, oh, I didn’t know what I was doing either coming out of high school. And everybody’s like, oh, you really like art. You really good art. You should go for it. And I was like, okay, I’ll go for art. And then I got into art and I hated it because it was not.
00:03:46:26 – 00:03:50:26
Jason Collins
The program wasn’t tuned for me. They were trying to tune me to the program.
00:03:50:31 – 00:03:52:05
Agent Palmer
That’s the consensus.
00:03:52:05 – 00:04:12:51
Jason Collins
Yeah, yeah. And I mean, if you’re into fine arts and you want to paint and you want to hobnob snobs at the galleries and you know what I mean? Brown nose and suck up to people to try and so ridiculous works of art for outrageous amounts of money. That’s not my gig. And I was like, wow, I’m not going to make any money in that realm.
00:04:12:51 – 00:04:29:40
Jason Collins
So I switched. I mean, I finished the degree because I was so far along, and then I transferred as many credits as possible over to the science major where I was like, well, I like computers too. And, you know, everybody’s like, oh, there’s good there’s good jobs out there for it. There’s good jobs out there. Right? So I was like, all right, I’ll do that.
00:04:29:47 – 00:04:31:15
Agent Palmer
So was it that simple?
00:04:31:15 – 00:04:33:08
Agent Palmer
Like, I like art, I’m going to major in art.
00:04:33:08 – 00:04:44:00
Agent Palmer
And then I, I like I like computers, I’m good at because like to me, I wish I had had the foresight to be like, I like computers, I should I should major in i.t.
00:04:44:05 – 00:05:04:57
Jason Collins
Yeah, I got the foresight once I was off on my own. Prior to that, I was taking everyone else’s advice. You know what I mean? Yeah. And I’m surprised, like, my my school teachers weren’t more, helpful in that respect and say, well, you know, in terms of your grades and stuff, you should go for like a computer science degree.
00:05:04:57 – 00:05:10:42
Jason Collins
And nobody ever said that they would always just ask you, well, what do you think you’re going to do? I said, I’m going to do art. And they say, oh, okay, that’s great.
00:05:10:47 – 00:05:11:34
Jason Collins
Well, knowing.
00:05:11:34 – 00:05:13:57
Jason Collins
Me better than I knew myself at the time, they probably should have.
00:05:13:57 – 00:05:15:08
Jason Collins
Said, look.
00:05:15:13 – 00:05:20:02
Jason Collins
You can probably get like some scholarships if you did this or is so like it is what it is.
00:05:20:11 – 00:05:24:45
Agent Palmer
I mean, I will say we were the I look back at us as being the last.
00:05:24:45 – 00:05:25:46
Agent Palmer
Generation.
00:05:25:46 – 00:05:31:47
Agent Palmer
That was told, you finish high school you’d go to college with. Yeah, because I think, I mean.
00:05:31:47 – 00:05:32:20
Agent Palmer
I grew up with.
00:05:32:20 – 00:05:37:45
Agent Palmer
That expectation. Like no one told me what to go to college for. They just said, this is what you do.
00:05:37:45 – 00:05:38:16
Agent Palmer
After high.
00:05:38:16 – 00:05:38:39
Agent Palmer
School.
00:05:38:50 – 00:05:42:15
Jason Collins
Yeah. Like, in other words, you weren’t going to go anywhere in life if you didn’t have a degree.
00:05:42:15 – 00:05:45:56
Agent Palmer
That’s. Yeah. And I feel like bullshit. Well it is.
00:05:46:07 – 00:05:46:20
Jason Collins
It.
00:05:46:20 – 00:05:46:55
Jason Collins
Isn’t it isn’t.
00:05:47:10 – 00:05:50:02
Agent Palmer
I yeah I mean I, I my.
00:05:50:02 – 00:05:50:20
Agent Palmer
First.
00:05:50:20 – 00:06:06:32
Agent Palmer
Professional gig was doing marketing slash it and it was nothing. I went to school for. So like I was all I or I mean, I was self-taught in a lot of it, so. And it had been eight.
00:06:06:32 – 00:06:08:30
Agent Palmer
Years of working in retail in.
00:06:08:30 – 00:06:15:56
Agent Palmer
Between. So it was like, why I could that’s a lot of money. I mean, I wouldn’t have met you. I wouldn’t have met like Chris.
00:06:15:56 – 00:06:16:43
Agent Palmer
Other people that.
00:06:16:43 – 00:06:23:13
Agent Palmer
We now hang out with again. But like outside of those connections, and I learned a lot.
00:06:23:13 – 00:06:24:39
Agent Palmer
More out of the classroom than.
00:06:24:39 – 00:06:24:59
Jason Collins
In.
00:06:25:06 – 00:06:52:03
Jason Collins
Yeah, yeah, I feel that way too, even even though I have a science degree in it, it was specific to, it was a specific curriculum focused only on Microsoft products, and that doesn’t apply in the real world. And it you kind of have to be more multifaceted. Yeah, you have to have a range of skill sets you have, especially working with, different platforms because there’s a lot of integration out there.
00:06:52:03 – 00:07:06:23
Jason Collins
Companies are always going to go for whatever’s affordable, as long as it works with other products that they’re already using. So but it’s not a one stop shop for a lot of places. So the more multifaceted you are, the better off you’re going to be now in the real world.
00:07:06:26 – 00:07:08:16
Agent Palmer
I want to ask, you.
00:07:08:16 – 00:07:09:52
Agent Palmer
Were a.
00:07:09:57 – 00:07:12:03
Agent Palmer
I don’t know what what did we.
00:07:12:08 – 00:07:15:40
Agent Palmer
A computer monitor for like the or a computer aid for like.
00:07:15:40 – 00:07:16:03
Agent Palmer
Yeah.
00:07:16:03 – 00:07:19:33
Jason Collins
What do they call them? Like a lab assistant, computer lab assistant or something. Yeah.
00:07:19:39 – 00:07:27:07
Agent Palmer
Did any of that, especially when you’re dealing with some of the students that were just not technically savvy, did any of that.
00:07:27:07 – 00:07:27:36
Agent Palmer
Prepare.
00:07:27:36 – 00:07:30:17
Agent Palmer
You for the stupidity of being in it.
00:07:30:30 – 00:07:32:01
Agent Palmer
In a workplace?
00:07:32:05 – 00:07:51:56
Jason Collins
Actually it did. Okay. Surprised? I was surprised. When I look back on it, it certainly did, because although same questions that, you know, users end up with in a college lab environment that aren’t computer savvy are the same questions that come up with adults in a work environment that aren’t computer savvy. I lost my file. The printer is out of ink.
00:07:51:56 – 00:07:58:16
Jason Collins
The printer is not printing. You know, all the same problems exist in in both worlds.
00:07:58:21 – 00:07:59:15
Agent Palmer
All right, you got it.
00:07:59:15 – 00:07:59:33
Agent Palmer
You got.
00:07:59:33 – 00:08:00:23
Agent Palmer
To square it for.
00:08:00:23 – 00:08:01:07
Agent Palmer
Me.
00:08:01:11 – 00:08:02:36
Agent Palmer
And for everyone listening.
00:08:02:50 – 00:08:03:46
Agent Palmer
It’s mostly.
00:08:03:46 – 00:08:05:20
Agent Palmer
User error.
00:08:05:25 – 00:08:09:35
Jason Collins
Yeah, a good chunk at the time, but probably like 80 to 90% of the time.
00:08:09:46 – 00:08:12:29
Agent Palmer
That was I mean, that was my experience. And I.
00:08:12:29 – 00:08:13:43
Agent Palmer
I ran it for very.
00:08:13:43 – 00:08:15:54
Agent Palmer
Small office and I was.
00:08:15:54 – 00:08:16:52
Agent Palmer
Like the first line.
00:08:16:52 – 00:08:22:26
Agent Palmer
Of defense, like we had, I don’t know, an outside agency for like if something needed to.
00:08:22:26 – 00:08:23:44
Agent Palmer
Be recovered and completely.
00:08:23:44 – 00:08:26:39
Agent Palmer
Rebuilt because I was also.
00:08:26:43 – 00:08:27:27
Agent Palmer
Marketing. Right?
00:08:27:27 – 00:08:29:02
Agent Palmer
So I couldn’t spend like five.
00:08:29:02 – 00:08:29:55
Agent Palmer
Hours.
00:08:30:00 – 00:08:34:53
Agent Palmer
On a, on any given day doing one IT thing. But I will say as that.
00:08:34:53 – 00:08:35:16
Agent Palmer
First.
00:08:35:16 – 00:08:36:52
Agent Palmer
Line of defense.
00:08:36:57 – 00:08:40:15
Agent Palmer
My coworkers are panicked.
00:08:40:20 – 00:08:45:09
Agent Palmer
It’s I swear I didn’t do anything. It was just like this one came in.
00:08:45:09 – 00:08:46:52
Jason Collins
Yeah. It worked yesterday.
00:08:46:52 – 00:08:53:30
Jason Collins
Yeah. My favorite quote. Well, yeah. And today it’s not sun came up. It’s a new day. New problems, man. Like.
00:08:53:44 – 00:08:58:55
Agent Palmer
But I don’t know. Do you go on autopilot when you have those things now like you’ve been.
00:08:58:55 – 00:08:59:56
Agent Palmer
Doing it for a long.
00:08:59:56 – 00:09:01:10
Agent Palmer
Time.
00:09:01:15 – 00:09:23:24
Jason Collins
I actually in some ways, yes. Because you start to learn, I start I went right from college, I stayed, I worked as the lab assistant helping students. Then I started working with the their actual IT department as the IT department helpdesk technician, which dealt more with the faculty and the student more with the faculty than the students.
00:09:23:29 – 00:09:50:19
Jason Collins
And helping the the other lab assistants that were underclassman from there to an actual tier one help desk job with MetLife. That just kind of climbed the ladder from there to where I am now. And yeah, after probably say, like, just a couple of years working at MetLife, it all becomes autopilot because you start to pick up on it on end user vocabulary.
00:09:50:19 – 00:10:04:32
Jason Collins
They all have a certain way they like to describe things, and what they’re saying doesn’t actually mean what the problem is. But you pick up on these little clues in their speech and you know what their problem is just from having heard it time and time again.
00:10:04:36 – 00:10:05:27
Agent Palmer
Okay.
00:10:05:32 – 00:10:21:34
Jason Collins
So in a way, you can get autopilot. They’re like, they go into this big long rant about their problem and you pick up on these little keywords, and I just sit there and listen and then I’m like, okay, here’s the problem. And I don’t even tell them what the problem is because they’ll argue with you, you know, they’ll say, they tried this, they tried that.
00:10:21:34 – 00:10:35:12
Jason Collins
And I don’t tell them any of that stuff. I just clear cut directions and I only ask yes or no questions for those uncertainties that they haven’t explained that I’m still wondering about to help narrow down the issue now. But yeah, most of it’s autopilot.
00:10:35:23 – 00:10:36:12
Agent Palmer
Has remote.
00:10:36:23 – 00:10:38:12
Agent Palmer
Desktop access being.
00:10:38:12 – 00:10:43:48
Agent Palmer
More prevalent. Made it easier for you, or harder? Because I feel.
00:10:43:48 – 00:10:47:19
Agent Palmer
Like I know in my limited.
00:10:47:19 – 00:10:48:17
Agent Palmer
Experience.
00:10:48:22 – 00:10:48:40
Agent Palmer
That.
00:10:48:52 – 00:10:51:31
Agent Palmer
There is no replacing being there.
00:10:51:36 – 00:11:05:50
Jason Collins
Like, no, there’s not. Like it takes a lot longer to talk somebody through an issue over the phone than it does to just sit down at the keyboard and do it for them now. So remote access helps everybody, the the user and the the support.
00:11:06:01 – 00:11:09:58
Agent Palmer
Okay. I always found it a little bit like off the my favorite.
00:11:09:58 – 00:11:10:56
Agent Palmer
Thing to do with remote.
00:11:10:56 – 00:11:14:17
Agent Palmer
Access was to like just play music on somebody’s.
00:11:14:17 – 00:11:15:08
Agent Palmer
Computer when they weren’t.
00:11:15:08 – 00:11:19:50
Jason Collins
Expecting it and prank people just know, you know, it’s fun for that too.
00:11:19:52 – 00:11:21:36
Agent Palmer
Little, little harmless stuff, you know?
00:11:21:36 – 00:11:23:50
Jason Collins
Yeah. We’re just we were we.
00:11:23:53 – 00:11:39:07
Jason Collins
Were playing a prank on a guy in the office today. Actually, we we plug the second, wireless mouse dongle into his docking station. And the guy that sits next to him would periodically tap the other mouse when he’s trying to work and screw it up.
00:11:39:12 – 00:11:39:45
Jason Collins
00:11:39:49 – 00:11:42:15
Agent Palmer
They’re so small now, you wouldn’t know.
00:11:42:17 – 00:11:43:27
Jason Collins
No, it took a.
00:11:43:29 – 00:11:46:27
Jason Collins
It took him probably an hour before he realized what was happening.
00:11:46:32 – 00:11:50:56
Agent Palmer
I like it, I like it. I mean, look, I feel like it.
00:11:51:05 – 00:11:54:29
Agent Palmer
Deserves.
00:11:54:34 – 00:12:02:31
Agent Palmer
The ability to mess with people because, like, you know, it’s harmless most of the time.
00:12:02:34 – 00:12:04:23
Jason Collins
Most of the time, yeah.
00:12:04:27 – 00:12:05:27
Agent Palmer
You’re not trying to erase.
00:12:05:27 – 00:12:05:54
Agent Palmer
Anybody’s.
00:12:05:54 – 00:12:06:28
Agent Palmer
Computer or.
00:12:06:28 – 00:12:06:58
Agent Palmer
Anything.
00:12:06:58 – 00:12:13:02
Jason Collins
So. No. Well, not in a job, not in a job world, because we’re held by, you know, like legal agreements and stuff.
00:12:13:02 – 00:12:16:03
Jason Collins
We can’t do things like that. Sabotage. It hurts the.
00:12:16:08 – 00:12:20:28
Jason Collins
The reputation of the company, yada, yada. Now go to jail, pay fines.
00:12:20:38 – 00:12:27:45
Agent Palmer
That’s that’s all good professionally. But like, I know you you are.
00:12:27:50 – 00:12:28:31
Agent Palmer
For some of.
00:12:28:31 – 00:12:31:08
Agent Palmer
Us, like the go to it.
00:12:31:17 – 00:12:32:11
Agent Palmer
Person.
00:12:32:16 – 00:12:33:56
Agent Palmer
Within the circle.
00:12:34:00 – 00:12:35:53
Agent Palmer
And probably for your family.
00:12:35:57 – 00:12:38:36
Agent Palmer
Right. Like, do you wish you could just.
00:12:38:36 – 00:12:39:08
Agent Palmer
Turn it.
00:12:39:08 – 00:12:43:24
Agent Palmer
Off when you come home? Or does it not matter to.
00:12:43:29 – 00:12:46:51
Jason Collins
I guess it depends on the severity of the issue that that person’s having.
00:12:46:51 – 00:12:47:17
Jason Collins
And if it’s.
00:12:47:17 – 00:12:48:26
Jason Collins
Like.
00:12:48:31 – 00:12:58:10
Jason Collins
Blue screen at death, my computer will put on my car. God, I want to do this today. I just dealt with it at work and now I got to do it. But like generally, no, I don’t. It doesn’t usually bother me.
00:12:58:15 – 00:13:09:48
Agent Palmer
Do you or are you like you don’t you don’t. You’re not going to get to a point when you get to that like midlife crisis and go like, I don’t want to be an idiot anymore. Like, you found your spot.
00:13:09:53 – 00:13:11:00
Jason Collins
00:13:11:05 – 00:13:24:51
Jason Collins
I mean, I don’t know that anybody ever does. It’s rare. Isn’t it really rare that somebody is, like, completely happy with their career and are super passionate about it every day of their life until they retire?
00:13:24:56 – 00:13:26:08
Agent Palmer
I mean, that’s definitely.
00:13:26:08 – 00:13:28:28
Agent Palmer
More and more rare.
00:13:28:33 – 00:13:29:21
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:13:29:25 – 00:13:36:44
Jason Collins
I mean, I don’t I don’t see myself having a midlife crisis and bombing out of it anytime soon. I mean, especially at the level I’m at now.
00:13:36:44 – 00:13:38:39
Agent Palmer
You never see the midlife crisis.
00:13:38:39 – 00:13:39:08
Agent Palmer
Coming.
00:13:39:08 – 00:13:41:10
Jason Collins
Though, I guess. I guess that’s the point.
00:13:41:16 – 00:13:49:23
Agent Palmer
It’s kind of like one of those things where it’s like, well, I woke up yesterday and I just decided, you know, piano, that’s.
00:13:49:23 – 00:13:58:32
Jason Collins
My whole racket. Like, that’s just a bad move all around. How does this thing work?
00:13:58:37 – 00:14:02:58
Agent Palmer
Well, I mean, you did say you wanted to get back into playing drums. Like, do you still own a kid?
00:14:02:58 – 00:14:12:29
Jason Collins
But, I mean, like, as hobbies, I don’t see myself like, joining any bands or. You know what I mean? Nothing like that. Just for my own happiness and enjoyment.
00:14:12:44 – 00:14:13:20
Agent Palmer
I mean, we.
00:14:13:20 – 00:14:16:24
Agent Palmer
Were when we were playing together.
00:14:16:29 – 00:14:21:06
Agent Palmer
I mean, I never had any illusions that it was anything other than just playing together.
00:14:21:11 – 00:14:22:38
Jason Collins
Oh, at that time. Yeah.
00:14:22:43 – 00:14:31:55
Agent Palmer
You know, we we we did the best we could with what we had. But I mean, I do, I do miss it. I mean, I still.
00:14:31:55 – 00:14:33:59
Agent Palmer
Play on a regular basis.
00:14:34:04 – 00:14:43:25
Agent Palmer
Some kind of instrument, but I will say I do not want a tour, right. Like, like like all those things. Like, when.
00:14:43:25 – 00:14:43:56
Agent Palmer
We first.
00:14:43:56 – 00:14:46:55
Agent Palmer
Picked up those instruments, it was like, oh, I’m going to be I’m going to go.
00:14:46:55 – 00:14:48:16
Agent Palmer
On tour. This is going to be great.
00:14:48:16 – 00:14:52:25
Agent Palmer
And now it’s like, nah, I don’t want to do that. No, none of that sounds like.
00:14:52:35 – 00:14:56:15
Jason Collins
I’m a homebody now. I like to just come home and relax.
00:14:56:15 – 00:14:56:55
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:14:57:00 – 00:15:15:40
Jason Collins
I don’t I don’t want to. That’s a lot of stress on people and and their families and. I did play in a band for a short while after college. Let some good dudes we played out, how do we. For about a year we played at bars and stuff. It was fun. All right, I enjoyed it.
00:15:15:44 – 00:15:18:17
Agent Palmer
But you wouldn’t want to like, hey.
00:15:18:18 – 00:15:19:41
Agent Palmer
Let’s go across the country.
00:15:19:50 – 00:15:26:24
Jason Collins
No. At that time with them. Yeah, probably. But, not not now. Yeah. I’m good.
00:15:26:29 – 00:15:28:26
Agent Palmer
Now. I, I feel like we.
00:15:28:26 – 00:15:30:54
Agent Palmer
Probably should address this.
00:15:30:59 – 00:15:34:15
Agent Palmer
I was at your wedding.
00:15:34:20 – 00:15:35:06
Jason Collins
00:15:35:11 – 00:15:36:40
Agent Palmer
And then until about.
00:15:36:40 – 00:15:38:45
Agent Palmer
Two years ago.
00:15:38:50 – 00:15:39:58
Agent Palmer
I don’t know if.
00:15:39:58 – 00:15:40:27
Agent Palmer
We ever.
00:15:40:27 – 00:15:42:17
Agent Palmer
Spoke in between.
00:15:42:22 – 00:15:49:11
Jason Collins
How? I don’t think so. I don’t know, I just lost touch with a lot of people in that time frame.
00:15:49:16 – 00:15:50:39
Agent Palmer
I think that’s common.
00:15:50:44 – 00:15:51:24
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:15:51:29 – 00:15:51:46
Agent Palmer
I’m.
00:15:51:50 – 00:15:55:41
Agent Palmer
I’m glad we’re back together. Like, I have to give Chris all the credit in the world.
00:15:55:41 – 00:15:56:23
Agent Palmer
Because his.
00:15:56:23 – 00:15:58:24
Agent Palmer
Stream kind of brought us back together.
00:15:58:39 – 00:16:12:41
Jason Collins
Right? Yeah. And when he started that again, and I. And I reached out to him and and he, you and him had stayed. Yeah. In communication in that whole time. I was kind of like in shock. I was like, wow, that’s actually really cool.
00:16:12:46 – 00:16:17:44
Agent Palmer
It’s so it’s but it’s so uncommon.
00:16:17:44 – 00:16:20:26
Agent Palmer
Like there are other people that I try and reach out.
00:16:20:26 – 00:16:23:27
Agent Palmer
To on occasion. You know, you still.
00:16:23:27 – 00:16:24:30
Agent Palmer
Have a phone number. You try and.
00:16:24:30 – 00:16:29:22
Agent Palmer
Call somebody on occasion, maybe, but like, it’s amazing to be the one.
00:16:29:22 – 00:16:31:16
Agent Palmer
Person.
00:16:31:20 – 00:16:35:11
Agent Palmer
When they’re like, oh, do you still talk to so-and-so? Yeah, all the time.
00:16:35:16 – 00:16:35:32
Jason Collins
And.
00:16:35:32 – 00:16:36:21
Agent Palmer
Everybody’s like.
00:16:36:21 – 00:16:37:25
Agent Palmer
Wait, really?
00:16:37:33 – 00:16:39:03
Jason Collins
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:16:39:06 – 00:16:50:56
Jason Collins
So like on the flip side of that, like you, you and Chris kind of stayed together that whole time. And me and John. Okay. Like been together. Friendship that that whole time too.
00:16:51:11 – 00:16:51:47
Agent Palmer
Yeah.
00:16:51:52 – 00:17:04:11
Jason Collins
Which is I guess I don’t know I don’t know how that works. You know what I mean? Like, some people just you’re just, like, stuck with. Not in a bad way, but like, you’re, you’re, bonded. Yeah. And then the other ones kind of just go away.
00:17:04:13 – 00:17:06:30
Jason Collins
It’s not that it was a bad.
00:17:06:35 – 00:17:10:18
Jason Collins
Yeah thing, like, you just kind of drifted away on your own paths for a little while.
00:17:10:20 – 00:17:17:43
Agent Palmer
No, I mean, you you you and I had a couple phone calls since then, and it was just like we got on the phone. It was just like.
00:17:17:48 – 00:17:20:46
Jason Collins
Nothing going happen. Yeah, yeah.
00:17:20:51 – 00:17:25:12
Agent Palmer
And then we we met again back for.
00:17:25:12 – 00:17:26:29
Agent Palmer
Chris’s birthday stream.
00:17:26:29 – 00:17:27:09
Agent Palmer
And again.
00:17:27:23 – 00:17:27:39
Jason Collins
That was.
00:17:27:39 – 00:17:29:18
Jason Collins
Awesome. But it was it was like.
00:17:29:25 – 00:17:31:28
Jason Collins
It was like we just saw each other like a couple days ago.
00:17:31:28 – 00:17:33:14
Agent Palmer
Yeah, yeah. And it’s.
00:17:33:14 – 00:17:34:17
Agent Palmer
Weird.
00:17:34:21 – 00:17:37:38
Agent Palmer
I mean, I feel like it’s one of those things that it happens because, like.
00:17:37:52 – 00:17:39:12
Agent Palmer
We were so surrounded.
00:17:39:12 – 00:17:40:14
Agent Palmer
By, like, what, 15.
00:17:40:14 – 00:17:41:08
Agent Palmer
20 friends.
00:17:41:08 – 00:17:43:08
Agent Palmer
All the time on that campus.
00:17:43:13 – 00:17:43:38
Agent Palmer
That there.
00:17:43:38 – 00:17:44:41
Agent Palmer
Was no way that.
00:17:44:41 – 00:17:45:49
Agent Palmer
That entire nucleus.
00:17:45:49 – 00:17:46:11
Agent Palmer
Was going to.
00:17:46:11 – 00:17:47:07
Agent Palmer
Stay together.
00:17:47:12 – 00:17:47:31
Jason Collins
No.
00:17:47:44 – 00:17:48:11
Agent Palmer
But just.
00:17:48:11 – 00:17:49:25
Agent Palmer
How everybody fragmented.
00:17:49:25 – 00:17:50:09
Agent Palmer
Out, like, it’s.
00:17:50:10 – 00:17:51:05
Agent Palmer
So weird, but.
00:17:51:05 – 00:17:58:41
Agent Palmer
Like, then we come back and it’s like, I don’t I don’t know why I stopped talking to you like that and like.
00:17:58:46 – 00:17:59:16
Jason Collins
I don’t either.
00:17:59:16 – 00:18:01:40
Agent Palmer
Here’s the thing. I started this by saying, I was at your wedding.
00:18:01:40 – 00:18:03:55
Agent Palmer
Nothing bad happened at your wedding, right? Like it was.
00:18:03:55 – 00:18:05:27
Agent Palmer
Just like then life.
00:18:05:27 – 00:18:07:07
Agent Palmer
Happened, right? Or whatever.
00:18:07:07 – 00:18:09:23
Agent Palmer
So, you know, and it’s just kind of like.
00:18:09:28 – 00:18:16:24
Jason Collins
We got jobs, we get busy, you know, like, it just splits, I guess.
00:18:16:29 – 00:18:20:56
Agent Palmer
But I like I’m I’m glad now I feel like it’s it’s also.
00:18:20:56 – 00:18:21:59
Agent Palmer
Like very weird.
00:18:21:59 – 00:18:31:08
Agent Palmer
Too because it’s like, who else who who else would this work with? Because I don’t think it’s everybody. Like, I don’t think you could put me back on a phone.
00:18:31:08 – 00:18:31:51
Agent Palmer
Or in a room.
00:18:31:51 – 00:18:33:01
Agent Palmer
With all the people.
00:18:33:01 – 00:18:34:00
Agent Palmer
That were in our circle.
00:18:34:00 – 00:18:39:34
Agent Palmer
Back then, and that I would be completely okay with.
00:18:39:39 – 00:18:40:24
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:18:40:29 – 00:18:41:58
Agent Palmer
Yeah. I think.
00:18:42:02 – 00:18:44:19
Agent Palmer
Certain people grow at different rates and.
00:18:44:19 – 00:18:52:59
Agent Palmer
Times and you, you and I grew in a way where, like, we’re still in the same place, like we’re in a different place.
00:18:52:59 – 00:18:54:54
Agent Palmer
But you and I are in a similar place now.
00:18:54:56 – 00:18:58:52
Agent Palmer
Like, we’re homebodies, like I’m. Yeah. I’m not taking any chances now.
00:18:58:57 – 00:19:00:01
Jason Collins
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:19:00:08 – 00:19:01:44
Jason Collins
Like, yeah. That’s like me to.
00:19:01:49 – 00:19:02:40
Agent Palmer
Let me chill.
00:19:02:45 – 00:19:06:23
Jason Collins
I don’t know, I’m.
00:19:06:28 – 00:19:28:21
Jason Collins
But yeah, I see what you mean though, because like, we like I see obviously Richie’s on my my social media. He doesn’t. You would reach out to him periodically, but he doesn’t respond all the time. We went to see his comedy show down in Bloomsburg. And, I mean, we only got to meet, like, face to face with him and and talk back and forth for ten minutes before he had to take off with his crew.
00:19:28:26 – 00:19:29:44
Jason Collins
So I mean, like.
00:19:29:49 – 00:19:30:39
Agent Palmer
Yeah. And he’s one.
00:19:30:39 – 00:19:31:11
Agent Palmer
I reached out.
00:19:31:11 – 00:19:32:09
Agent Palmer
To a couple times over.
00:19:32:09 – 00:19:32:43
Agent Palmer
The years.
00:19:32:43 – 00:19:36:14
Agent Palmer
Because again, he’s on our social media. I mean, I feel like social media is like the ultimate.
00:19:36:14 – 00:19:37:13
Agent Palmer
Crutch for that.
00:19:37:13 – 00:19:42:51
Agent Palmer
Like, and I’ve not been on Facebook, which is the.
00:19:42:51 – 00:19:43:59
Agent Palmer
Big one for like life.
00:19:43:59 – 00:19:46:59
Agent Palmer
Events and stuff that happened automatically.
00:19:46:59 – 00:19:48:12
Agent Palmer
Where I’m like.
00:19:48:16 – 00:19:50:02
Agent Palmer
I’m not like once I got off.
00:19:50:02 – 00:19:50:24
Agent Palmer
Of there.
00:19:50:24 – 00:19:55:21
Agent Palmer
I ceased to be connected, even in a tangential way or.
00:19:55:21 – 00:19:56:26
Agent Palmer
Even in a superficial.
00:19:56:26 – 00:20:00:53
Agent Palmer
Way. And it was like, I have no idea what anybody’s up to. And the few people.
00:20:00:53 – 00:20:02:13
Agent Palmer
That were still on Twitter at that.
00:20:02:13 – 00:20:03:02
Agent Palmer
Point.
00:20:03:07 – 00:20:04:30
Agent Palmer
Weren’t sharing.
00:20:04:35 – 00:20:06:59
Agent Palmer
The the life stuff.
00:20:07:04 – 00:20:08:02
Agent Palmer
On Twitter.
00:20:08:07 – 00:20:22:50
Jason Collins
Yeah, it’s weird. Those two Twitters on, it’s all weird kind of communication compared to Facebook. But I know, I know what you’re saying about that whole crutch thing. It’s like you see their updates all the time, so you don’t really feel the need to have to reach out, like you already know what’s going on in their life.
00:20:22:52 – 00:20:29:18
Agent Palmer
Yeah. Like, hey, what’s going on? Oh, I just got a new job. Oh, I saw that on Facebook the other day. Like what? Yeah. Why even have the conversation at.
00:20:29:18 – 00:20:31:55
Jason Collins
That point to kind of diminishes some of that doesn’t it.
00:20:32:00 – 00:20:35:07
Agent Palmer
Yeah. Well but I mean I mean I get to.
00:20:35:07 – 00:20:36:46
Agent Palmer
Learn all this for the first time.
00:20:36:46 – 00:20:38:12
Agent Palmer
When I do finally.
00:20:38:12 – 00:20:38:34
Agent Palmer
Reach out.
00:20:38:34 – 00:20:47:37
Agent Palmer
To people because, like, I don’t see it. I also feel like it’s, it’s a good thing and a bad thing. Like, I will.
00:20:47:42 – 00:20:48:15
Agent Palmer
Reach out to.
00:20:48:15 – 00:20:48:51
Agent Palmer
People if.
00:20:48:51 – 00:20:50:08
Agent Palmer
I can remember on their.
00:20:50:08 – 00:20:55:14
Agent Palmer
Birthday and give them a text because I don’t feel the need to do it publicly.
00:20:55:19 – 00:20:58:09
Jason Collins
But yeah, I do that too. I do that too. I like to text instead.
00:20:58:13 – 00:21:00:55
Agent Palmer
But I will also get those moments where somebody like, did you.
00:21:00:55 – 00:21:01:52
Agent Palmer
Remember.
00:21:01:56 – 00:21:02:11
Agent Palmer
It’s.
00:21:02:11 – 00:21:04:06
Agent Palmer
So-And-So’s birthday?
00:21:04:11 – 00:21:10:31
Agent Palmer
Because I just saw it on Facebook. I was like, I mean, I, I texted them like, does it not count?
00:21:10:31 – 00:21:11:50
Jason Collins
Like, do you.
00:21:11:50 – 00:21:13:23
Agent Palmer
As the rest of the world need.
00:21:13:23 – 00:21:18:24
Agent Palmer
To know that I wish Jason a happy birthday publicly. No.
00:21:18:24 – 00:21:21:52
Jason Collins
Yeah. You don’t. Yeah you don’t exactly. I feel the same way.
00:21:22:05 – 00:21:24:12
Agent Palmer
But but we’ve we’ve come a long way.
00:21:24:12 – 00:21:27:00
Agent Palmer
We’re the generation that started with.
00:21:27:10 – 00:21:29:38
Agent Palmer
What IQ and IRC.
00:21:29:38 – 00:21:35:42
Jason Collins
And you can go back farther the I. Yeah I IRC.
00:21:35:47 – 00:21:36:33
Agent Palmer
Yeah I mean that.
00:21:36:33 – 00:21:38:01
Agent Palmer
Was my first one. IRC was my.
00:21:38:01 – 00:21:40:26
Jason Collins
I was a lot of people Yahoo chat rooms.
00:21:40:31 – 00:21:41:07
Agent Palmer
I don’t think I.
00:21:41:07 – 00:21:41:39
Agent Palmer
Was ever in.
00:21:41:39 – 00:21:42:11
Agent Palmer
Yahoo. I think.
00:21:42:11 – 00:21:42:24
Agent Palmer
I went.
00:21:42:24 – 00:21:48:34
Agent Palmer
IRC to IQ, and then I tried to be the one who, like held my nose at AOL people. And then.
00:21:48:34 – 00:21:49:14
Agent Palmer
Everybody.
00:21:49:14 – 00:21:58:17
Agent Palmer
Was just on, oh, so you just kind of you couldn’t do anything about it. It was like like being that one holdout for Facebook, like. Yeah, like, well, I mean, at some point you just have to.
00:21:58:21 – 00:22:02:38
Jason Collins
I was a bigger fan of, like T2, but yeah, AOL had the population.
00:22:02:43 – 00:22:05:35
Agent Palmer
I think that’s the thing that you and I have in common as a.
00:22:05:39 – 00:22:07:07
Agent Palmer
Tech backgrounds, like there are.
00:22:07:07 – 00:22:08:18
Agent Palmer
Certain.
00:22:08:23 – 00:22:11:40
Agent Palmer
There are certain programs that just you grab.
00:22:11:41 – 00:22:34:24
Jason Collins
Are so much better interface with a lot of stuff. It held your messages for you when you you could send out messages to people when they were offline, and they’d get it when they came online. Yeah. Like that was one of its best features. And there were plug ins for it. You could add all kinds of things. There was a plug in that would let you, basically auto blog from your chat window and it would publish it to a website.
00:22:34:24 – 00:22:42:26
Jason Collins
I use that for, like, a ticket tracking project in college. I was like, this is pretty dope. You can do that with AOL.
00:22:42:31 – 00:22:45:06
Agent Palmer
No. But yet I know.
00:22:45:06 – 00:22:47:10
Agent Palmer
That during that time period.
00:22:47:15 – 00:22:50:39
Agent Palmer
If you wanted to know where anybody was, you checked that. Oh.
00:22:50:44 – 00:22:52:07
Jason Collins
Yeah. Like, it was like, yep.
00:22:52:17 – 00:22:55:48
Agent Palmer
Oh, so-and-so is in class so-and-so sleeping.
00:22:55:53 – 00:22:57:04
Jason Collins
Yep.
00:22:57:09 – 00:22:58:42
Agent Palmer
So speaking of.
00:22:58:44 – 00:22:59:07
Agent Palmer
Right.
00:22:59:07 – 00:23:02:07
Agent Palmer
Like I and this isn’t this is going.
00:23:02:07 – 00:23:02:50
Agent Palmer
To sound very.
00:23:02:50 – 00:23:15:29
Agent Palmer
Egotistical, but like, how much of me did you even know because of what I was doing on Facebook at one point was all the blog stuff, like I didn’t put anything real up.
00:23:15:29 – 00:23:15:44
Agent Palmer
There.
00:23:15:44 – 00:23:20:29
Agent Palmer
I mean, not real, but like, I wasn’t putting life prevention, but it was like, hey, I wrote this thing.
00:23:20:29 – 00:23:21:31
Agent Palmer
Hey, I wrote this thing.
00:23:21:34 – 00:23:24:57
Agent Palmer
Hey, I wrote this thing. Like, if you look at my Facebook feed.
00:23:24:57 – 00:23:25:59
Agent Palmer
At a certain point, that’s.
00:23:25:59 – 00:23:29:48
Agent Palmer
All it was. I gave up on it otherwise. Like, was that.
00:23:29:52 – 00:23:30:39
Agent Palmer
Weird?
00:23:30:39 – 00:23:33:56
Agent Palmer
Did you know see it? Like, I don’t, I guess, like.
00:23:34:04 – 00:23:54:07
Jason Collins
I actually didn’t think it was weird. Oh, I kind of figured, oh, like, you know, you’re actually out there doing something that you like that was like, kind of in your career path in terms of media writing, publicizing. And I, I would just see the posting and even it was never my interest, any kind of blogs or podcasts.
00:23:54:07 – 00:23:59:35
Jason Collins
I never fell into that crowd. I mean, because I don’t I’m not a reader of anything.
00:23:59:40 – 00:24:00:55
Agent Palmer
Well, you’re not a reader of anything.
00:24:00:55 – 00:24:06:27
Agent Palmer
But we’re going to get to the fact that you can do multiple languages somehow. So let’s.
00:24:06:32 – 00:24:09:07
Jason Collins
Well,
00:24:09:12 – 00:24:26:17
Jason Collins
But, I would say the person I, even though I didn’t click on them and read anything, I thought, oh, this is cool. He’s doing he’s doing good. He’s out there. And I just felt like, what’s the word I’m looking for toward you? Like it? Happiness. Okay. Like you’re doing you’re doing good for yourself. And I thought, oh, that’s that’s good.
00:24:26:17 – 00:24:28:04
Agent Palmer
That’s all he’s following his dream.
00:24:28:12 – 00:24:29:49
Jason Collins
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:24:29:54 – 00:24:40:35
Agent Palmer
I mean, I didn’t know what back. I mean, I didn’t know what I wanted to do at that point. Like, I mean, I guess, you know, at the in the beginning it was like, I don’t this is, okay, what am I doing?
00:24:40:40 – 00:24:47:57
Jason Collins
But, you know, but you were doing it. You were out there, you’re doing it. And I thought that was I. I find that kind of respectful, so.
00:24:48:02 – 00:24:48:16
Jason Collins
Right.
00:24:48:25 – 00:24:49:21
Jason Collins
That’s what I thought about it.
00:24:49:21 – 00:24:55:00
Agent Palmer
I mean, so I, I mentioned it, but like you.
00:24:55:05 – 00:24:56:48
Agent Palmer
Played through Wind Waker in, in.
00:24:56:48 – 00:24:57:25
Agent Palmer
A completely.
00:24:57:25 – 00:24:58:21
Agent Palmer
Foreign language.
00:24:58:21 – 00:25:01:13
Agent Palmer
When it came out because you couldn’t wait for the English.
00:25:01:17 – 00:25:01:40
Agent Palmer
Version.
00:25:01:40 – 00:25:13:19
Jason Collins
I wasn’t waiting when I, when I found it, when I found online that you could, you could hack to the Gamecube to play Japanese games. I was like, I’m doing this. I’m getting that game early, and I had it imported and I did it.
00:25:13:23 – 00:25:14:29
Agent Palmer
Now I.
00:25:14:33 – 00:25:16:03
Agent Palmer
I was part of the crew.
00:25:16:03 – 00:25:16:54
Agent Palmer
That would hang.
00:25:16:54 – 00:25:17:58
Agent Palmer
Out in your room and.
00:25:17:58 – 00:25:19:56
Agent Palmer
Watch you do this.
00:25:20:01 – 00:25:21:26
Jason Collins
Yeah, I don’t know why.
00:25:21:31 – 00:25:22:10
Jason Collins
Well, it.
00:25:22:10 – 00:25:24:30
Agent Palmer
Was, I mean, it was.
00:25:24:30 – 00:25:25:30
Agent Palmer
Twitch before Twitch, I.
00:25:25:30 – 00:25:27:09
Agent Palmer
Guess, but like, at the same time.
00:25:27:16 – 00:25:27:55
Jason Collins
Likes to call it.
00:25:27:55 – 00:25:30:05
Agent Palmer
Yeah, it was also.
00:25:30:10 – 00:25:30:41
Agent Palmer
Very.
00:25:30:41 – 00:25:35:11
Agent Palmer
Exciting because you didn’t you? It’s not like you learned the language to play the game.
00:25:35:11 – 00:25:35:38
Agent Palmer
You were just.
00:25:35:38 – 00:25:39:49
Agent Palmer
Playing the game based on symbols and guesses and having played the Zelda.
00:25:39:49 – 00:25:40:20
Agent Palmer
Franchise.
00:25:40:20 – 00:25:46:52
Agent Palmer
Before. Yeah. And I feel like that was part of it. You got like swept up in, like, what does that mean? I don’t, I don’t know.
00:25:46:52 – 00:25:47:41
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:25:47:46 – 00:26:09:17
Jason Collins
That’s yeah I knew I, I thought the language barrier might be a problem. But they’ve the way they design games visually just kind of guide you. But you don’t really even need to be able to read the text. I some games that that type of game. Yeah. So if you’re trying to play an in-depth role playing game, you’re probably going to be lost.
00:26:09:19 – 00:26:29:20
Jason Collins
Yeah. But something like that. You didn’t need to know the language. And they, they’d even highlight the color code things. Obviously rubies were color coded. And after you start to pick up on those symbols and the numbers and just like, oh, okay, well, this, this symbol must mean rupee because I see it all the time. It matches the color of the item I’ve just got.
00:26:29:33 – 00:26:48:04
Jason Collins
Yeah. And there’s, you know, there’s a quantity along with it. So you could pick up on tiny little things. But now, I only got, I got stuck in that game twice where I feel like maybe the language could have helped. So I ended up hitting a forum. And those two moments, I had to look up some help.
00:26:48:04 – 00:26:52:40
Jason Collins
But other than that, I’d say you could play like, 97% of the game.
00:26:52:44 – 00:26:53:02
Agent Palmer
See?
00:26:53:02 – 00:26:54:11
Jason Collins
And not even knowing the language.
00:26:54:11 – 00:26:55:20
Agent Palmer
And that’s where I.
00:26:55:21 – 00:27:09:57
Agent Palmer
I, I, I was kind of in awe because, like, I wouldn’t have even thought to do it like, I, I would, would’ve just waited. I mean, I did I mean, in the end, I did. I just waited for Wind Waker to come to to English.
00:27:10:02 – 00:27:13:29
Jason Collins
Yeah, I don’t know. I did messed up stuff there.
00:27:13:34 – 00:27:15:44
Jason Collins
But well, but I was like, I can’t wait.
00:27:15:56 – 00:27:19:10
Jason Collins
I’m not waiting six months. No way in hell now.
00:27:19:10 – 00:27:20:11
Agent Palmer
Did you play the English?
00:27:20:20 – 00:27:25:05
Jason Collins
I just said no. I never went back and played the English version. I had read that.
00:27:25:05 – 00:27:41:32
Jason Collins
They they trimmed down, the one point of the game where you get the treasure map and you have to go out to the ocean and find some items before you can go and fight Ganon. And the American version, there were less maps and less islands you had to visit. Okay. And I was like, oh, well, I mean, I had already went through it.
00:27:41:32 – 00:27:42:34
Jason Collins
So like.
00:27:42:38 – 00:27:46:09
Agent Palmer
I mean, would you would you want to do that again?
00:27:46:14 – 00:27:46:52
Jason Collins
I.
00:27:46:57 – 00:28:03:44
Jason Collins
Haven’t played I haven’t played Ocarina Remastered. I haven’t played, I haven’t really played any of the remastered games. So I kind of just like, let that nostalgia stay. I guess there’s very few games that I’ve replayed over. Ghostbusters is one of them. I’ve played that many times.
00:28:03:59 – 00:28:04:27
Agent Palmer
But that’s.
00:28:04:27 – 00:28:05:34
Agent Palmer
Where you and I differ.
00:28:05:34 – 00:28:11:34
Agent Palmer
Like I play old games almost exclusively.
00:28:11:39 – 00:28:26:11
Jason Collins
I think I’ve had a bad taste from it because I there’s some games, like old genius Games that I thought were amazing, and then I go back and play them now and I’m like, it doesn’t hold up. And it kind of ruins the nostalgia. So I don’t want to ruin the memory for myself. That’s better. Make sense.
00:28:26:11 – 00:28:29:38
Agent Palmer
But but I think part of that is that you have continued to.
00:28:29:38 – 00:28:31:08
Agent Palmer
Play newer games, right.
00:28:31:08 – 00:28:32:17
Agent Palmer
Like I.
00:28:32:22 – 00:28:35:23
Agent Palmer
I got frustrated with the. So there are.
00:28:35:38 – 00:28:36:46
Agent Palmer
Easy examples.
00:28:36:46 – 00:28:39:19
Agent Palmer
For me. Right? I got frustrated with Diablo.
00:28:39:19 – 00:28:40:34
Agent Palmer
Two because I thought you were.
00:28:40:34 – 00:28:41:10
Agent Palmer
Killing.
00:28:41:10 – 00:28:49:28
Agent Palmer
Me with too many options, which is why I go back and I enjoy just the hacking slash elements of just Diablo.
00:28:49:28 – 00:28:50:01
Agent Palmer
One, right.
00:28:50:04 – 00:28:54:36
Agent Palmer
And and that’s why I didn’t move forward. And I didn’t need.
00:28:54:41 – 00:29:02:26
Agent Palmer
The first person aspect of World of Warcraft. So Warcraft two Tides of Darkness, as a regular old arts.
00:29:02:31 – 00:29:04:20
Agent Palmer
Was something that I still go back to.
00:29:04:20 – 00:29:05:22
Agent Palmer
And play right, and.
00:29:05:27 – 00:29:06:48
Agent Palmer
Even quake as.
00:29:06:48 – 00:29:08:03
Agent Palmer
Like first person shooters.
00:29:08:03 – 00:29:16:18
Agent Palmer
Like you’d think like, I mean, I grew up with Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem and Quake that I would have been like all over, like Call of Duty and the fact that, like, we’ve just gotten.
00:29:16:18 – 00:29:17:03
Agent Palmer
Bigger and more.
00:29:17:03 – 00:29:27:29
Agent Palmer
Crazy, but I don’t need it more lifelike. Like, that’s why I played Duke Nukem and Quake to begin with. Like, these were fantasy and Duke Nukem was like.
00:29:27:34 – 00:29:28:35
Agent Palmer
Humor, like.
00:29:28:35 – 00:29:33:32
Agent Palmer
I don’t I don’t need the realism. So all of the newer games I played Duke.
00:29:33:32 – 00:29:34:38
Agent Palmer
Nukem Forever, I didn’t.
00:29:34:38 – 00:29:42:28
Agent Palmer
Think it was nearly as bad as everybody said it was. But like, other than that, I don’t know what anybody was expecting, and it wasn’t a game I was clamoring for.
00:29:42:28 – 00:29:43:54
Agent Palmer
I just knew it would never come out.
00:29:43:54 – 00:29:55:10
Agent Palmer
And when it did, I was like, oh, all right. But like, I haven’t adapted, like, I, I mean, I went, I started playing Minecraft, but I started playing Minecraft eight years after it came out. Like, I’m not on.
00:29:55:10 – 00:29:56:11
Agent Palmer
The forefront there.
00:29:56:11 – 00:30:02:50
Agent Palmer
And that’s probably the newest game I’ve picked up. You’ve continued to play like I have a PlayStation three.
00:30:02:50 – 00:30:05:20
Agent Palmer
Or four, maybe.
00:30:05:25 – 00:30:05:48
Jason Collins
00:30:05:48 – 00:30:07:13
Agent Palmer
And that was for FIFA.
00:30:07:13 – 00:30:22:25
Agent Palmer
I think. Not even like, like a platformer or anything like that. So like, I’m not I, I’ve kind of, I just maintain 1 or 2 windows XP PCs so I can go play Quake or Diablo really easily.
00:30:22:30 – 00:30:23:11
Jason Collins
Within up to.
00:30:23:12 – 00:30:25:59
Jason Collins
Running windows. Those are running Windows 10.
00:30:26:04 – 00:30:32:42
Agent Palmer
I yeah, but good luck finding one with an optical drive. I don’t want to have to use a USB.
00:30:32:47 – 00:30:33:42
Agent Palmer
Optical drive.
00:30:33:42 – 00:30:37:38
Agent Palmer
Like optical drives are dying out. I need to hold on to like the.
00:30:37:38 – 00:30:38:14
Agent Palmer
One or.
00:30:38:14 – 00:30:44:36
Agent Palmer
Two. I have two laptops, so technically I have a backup. I mean, I guess I could also play LAN if I wanted to.
00:30:44:41 – 00:30:46:17
Jason Collins
00:30:46:21 – 00:30:47:55
Agent Palmer
But I never adapted. I never.
00:30:47:55 – 00:30:48:55
Agent Palmer
Kept going.
00:30:49:00 – 00:30:50:34
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:30:50:38 – 00:30:51:41
Agent Palmer
Gamecube was where I.
00:30:51:41 – 00:30:53:12
Agent Palmer
Stopped for Nintendo.
00:30:53:17 – 00:30:56:06
Agent Palmer
No, I got a Wii. But, like. Yeah.
00:30:56:11 – 00:31:13:10
Jason Collins
That didn’t do so well. I had one too. It seemed promising. And then it wasn’t. Which is unfortunate because it had a lot of good games for it, but the their vision just didn’t didn’t take off for a lot of people. And now we have the switch. So I feel like that’s what the we were supposed to be.
00:31:13:13 – 00:31:39:16
Jason Collins
And it just okay, I get Nintendo has a habit of getting ahead of themselves in terms of everything development like think Virtual Boy. They wanted to do virtual reality before anybody and now we’ve got Oculus. So they’re they’re foresight is huge. And I feel like it hurts them sometimes. But. Well but yeah, I never stopped playing anything. All the platforms, all the games, PC, console, you name it.
00:31:39:21 – 00:31:39:51
Agent Palmer
Now do you.
00:31:39:51 – 00:31:42:01
Agent Palmer
Have a preference for like console versus.
00:31:42:01 – 00:31:43:29
Agent Palmer
PC?
00:31:43:34 – 00:31:58:46
Jason Collins
This point in time, I’m, I’m pretty much strictly PC consoles. The only good thing that consoles have going for them anymore is exclusives. And a lot of the exclusives aren’t games that I see like something I need to drop 500 to $700 for?
00:31:58:55 – 00:31:59:31
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:31:59:36 – 00:32:22:47
Jason Collins
I can pretty much play all the Triple-A titles I want on PC, aside from those handful of exclusives. And and now Sony made an interesting side play where they released the newest God of War on PC just recently. So what’s the point of buying a PlayStation if they’re eventually going to port the games to PC? I mean, like that was an exclusive at first.
00:32:22:52 – 00:32:25:28
Agent Palmer
My original reason for.
00:32:25:28 – 00:32:26:24
Agent Palmer
Buying.
00:32:26:29 – 00:32:28:12
Jason Collins
A.
00:32:28:17 – 00:32:31:00
Agent Palmer
Three was to have a Blu ray player, right like that.
00:32:31:01 – 00:32:34:24
Agent Palmer
For me, that was the thing.
00:32:34:29 – 00:32:35:23
Agent Palmer
And the reason.
00:32:35:23 – 00:32:41:18
Agent Palmer
That I was so excited about the two was because it was a DVD player and it played games.
00:32:41:23 – 00:33:03:30
Jason Collins
Yep, yep. That’s why I got the two similarly. Also why I got the Xbox. Not only can I play games, but I’ll also be able to use it as a as a movie player. Blu ray. My first Blu ray, had a 360 actually. I really liked the 360. There were a ton of games for Xbox 360, and I did actually play a lot of platform games on that.
00:33:03:35 – 00:33:24:25
Jason Collins
At the time I didn’t have the greatest PC. The only thing I played on PC was World of Warcraft, so. But that that’s, you know, like 14 years ago. Yeah. And now the PC has come such a way where pretty much every game you want to play is on PC. So the transition is now. Well, I have a very souped up PC that can play all of those games.
00:33:24:25 – 00:33:33:13
Jason Collins
I don’t have a need for a console, I have one, we have an Xbox. Primarily for the kid he likes. He prefers to play on the console.
00:33:33:17 – 00:33:38:16
Agent Palmer
I mean, I think that’s, I think if you had asked me 20 years ago, I’d say give.
00:33:38:16 – 00:33:39:23
Agent Palmer
Me a controller.
00:33:39:28 – 00:33:40:17
Agent Palmer
00:33:40:22 – 00:33:42:37
Jason Collins
Right. But you can use a controller on the PC.
00:33:42:40 – 00:33:43:50
Agent Palmer
Well, now you can.
00:33:43:50 – 00:33:44:33
Jason Collins
Yeah. Yeah.
00:33:44:42 – 00:33:46:57
Agent Palmer
No, I mean, that’s when stuff.
00:33:46:57 – 00:33:50:13
Agent Palmer
Started streaming, playing Fortnite.
00:33:50:28 – 00:33:51:31
Agent Palmer
She was using.
00:33:51:31 – 00:33:54:00
Agent Palmer
A PS3 controller or a PS4 controller.
00:33:54:11 – 00:34:02:22
Agent Palmer
Because it’s just a USB thing. It’s just a Bluetooth, a Bluetooth thing. And then I was like, well, you’ve been playing Minecraft. Like, you can you have.
00:34:02:22 – 00:34:04:09
Agent Palmer
The controller, you’ve been playing Minecraft.
00:34:04:18 – 00:34:04:49
Agent Palmer
You have.
00:34:04:49 – 00:34:05:34
Agent Palmer
The controls.
00:34:05:34 – 00:34:09:21
Agent Palmer
Down to just be a keyboard player. Maybe because.
00:34:09:21 – 00:34:09:57
Agent Palmer
Give or take.
00:34:09:57 – 00:34:16:52
Agent Palmer
It’s the same thing. It’s handy to move and it’s. Yeah. Look I mean yeah. Does anybody still call it m look anymore.
00:34:17:03 – 00:34:18:24
Jason Collins
What the heck is a mouse look.
00:34:18:24 – 00:34:19:05
Jason Collins
Yeah yeah.
00:34:19:05 – 00:34:20:53
Jason Collins
Oh god I haven’t heard m look I don’t think.
00:34:20:53 – 00:34:23:12
Jason Collins
I ever, not even back in the day.
00:34:23:17 – 00:34:28:28
Agent Palmer
That’s how you unlocked it on quake. You typed in m look so you could so you could.
00:34:28:28 – 00:34:28:55
Agent Palmer
Look around.
00:34:29:02 – 00:34:30:52
Agent Palmer
Because it. I don’t know if for.
00:34:30:52 – 00:34:32:09
Agent Palmer
Whatever reason, the developers.
00:34:32:09 – 00:34:33:59
Agent Palmer
Decided I’d. Software decided.
00:34:33:59 – 00:34:34:35
Agent Palmer
That.
00:34:34:40 – 00:34:35:30
Agent Palmer
Using the mouse.
00:34:35:30 – 00:34:36:15
Agent Palmer
Would just turn your.
00:34:36:15 – 00:34:43:24
Agent Palmer
Head, but it wouldn’t allow you up and down movement with the mouse unless you engaged em. Look.
00:34:43:29 – 00:34:43:59
Jason Collins
That’s weird.
00:34:44:03 – 00:34:44:50
Agent Palmer
00:34:44:55 – 00:34:52:25
Jason Collins
There were a lot of limitations for those kinds of mice back then, too. They weren’t very good at tracking. So for for a fast paced shooting game.
00:34:52:30 – 00:34:53:08
Agent Palmer
That’s fair.
00:34:53:08 – 00:34:58:51
Agent Palmer
But as a as an aside, like I have, you know, those.
00:34:58:51 – 00:35:00:00
Agent Palmer
Plastic drinking cups.
00:35:00:00 – 00:35:00:25
Agent Palmer
That we used to.
00:35:00:25 – 00:35:02:13
Agent Palmer
Get at the water cooler?
00:35:02:18 – 00:35:04:24
Jason Collins
Yeah, like the little Dixie cups. Yeah.
00:35:04:26 – 00:35:05:36
Agent Palmer
But the clear ones.
00:35:05:41 – 00:35:06:37
Jason Collins
Oh, yeah, the clear ones.
00:35:06:37 – 00:35:10:34
Agent Palmer
I have one of them full of nothing but mice.
00:35:10:34 – 00:35:10:56
Agent Palmer
Track.
00:35:10:56 – 00:35:11:21
Agent Palmer
Balls.
00:35:11:34 – 00:35:12:08
Jason Collins
Nice.
00:35:12:20 – 00:35:14:26
Jason Collins
Like those gray, rubbery.
00:35:14:33 – 00:35:15:54
Agent Palmer
Gray reverie ones.
00:35:15:54 – 00:35:16:55
Jason Collins
Those things are awesome.
00:35:16:55 – 00:35:24:43
Agent Palmer
And I still have two mice that actually have the balls. They’re USB that I kept them because they were actually USB.
00:35:24:43 – 00:35:25:08
Agent Palmer
They weren’t.
00:35:25:14 – 00:35:26:03
Agent Palmer
00:35:26:08 – 00:35:31:19
Agent Palmer
Serial port or whatever. The the mouse, the round mouse port ones were. Yeah.
00:35:31:19 – 00:35:35:11
Jason Collins
I didn’t know they made those into I didn’t know they made it to USB at that point.
00:35:35:11 – 00:35:37:13
Agent Palmer
Yeah, they are.
00:35:37:18 – 00:35:37:43
Jason Collins
Well I guess.
00:35:37:43 – 00:35:44:29
Jason Collins
They would have because the lasers were they didn’t really take off until after USB was out. So yeah, I guess that makes sense.
00:35:44:33 – 00:35:49:03
Agent Palmer
But I held on to them. I use them on occasion. And I still one of my.
00:35:49:03 – 00:35:49:39
Agent Palmer
Favorite is.
00:35:49:39 – 00:35:52:05
Agent Palmer
I have a, I don’t know what you call it, like a.
00:35:52:05 – 00:35:53:28
Agent Palmer
Square.
00:35:53:33 – 00:35:54:07
Agent Palmer
Mouse.
00:35:54:07 – 00:35:56:56
Agent Palmer
It’s not like from the top down aerial. It’s like a.
00:35:56:56 – 00:35:58:51
Agent Palmer
Rectangle. And it’s from.
00:35:58:57 – 00:35:59:15
Jason Collins
From a.
00:35:59:15 – 00:36:03:27
Agent Palmer
Mac. It’s an old IBM. Oh, I know which buttons.
00:36:03:32 – 00:36:05:06
Jason Collins
Yeah. You know.
00:36:05:11 – 00:36:07:51
Agent Palmer
And I, I do have a, a.
00:36:07:51 – 00:36:08:25
Agent Palmer
Serial, the.
00:36:08:25 – 00:36:08:52
Agent Palmer
USB.
00:36:08:52 – 00:36:10:05
Agent Palmer
Converter for mouse.
00:36:10:05 – 00:36:12:26
Agent Palmer
And keyboard, because I have one of the.
00:36:12:26 – 00:36:13:25
Agent Palmer
Few remaining.
00:36:13:25 – 00:36:15:31
Agent Palmer
IBM like.
00:36:15:35 – 00:36:17:28
Agent Palmer
Serial keyboards.
00:36:17:33 – 00:36:18:33
Agent Palmer
And it’s so.
00:36:18:33 – 00:36:19:00
Agent Palmer
Much more.
00:36:19:00 – 00:36:19:57
Agent Palmer
Fun. Like, those are all.
00:36:19:57 – 00:36:25:23
Jason Collins
OS two clunkers with the huge springs in them. Yep. We had those in high school. I love those.
00:36:25:24 – 00:36:33:02
Agent Palmer
It’s show. It’s the one keyboard in my house that is the most fun to play and or type with.
00:36:33:07 – 00:36:33:50
Jason Collins
00:36:34:18 – 00:36:38:45
Agent Palmer
And I have, like this slim lined wireless, you know, low.
00:36:38:45 – 00:36:39:24
Agent Palmer
Profile.
00:36:39:24 – 00:36:40:34
Agent Palmer
Ones and all that stuff.
00:36:40:36 – 00:36:49:45
Jason Collins
Oh, there’s something about that keyboard, I remember it. Yeah, I can still hear it and feel it in my head. That’s how much we use them in school. And I was like, that keyboard does something.
00:36:49:58 – 00:36:58:55
Agent Palmer
Well, it’s also it goes back to some of that nostalgia that you were talking about, and yet it was sturdy. You beat the hell out of it.
00:36:58:55 – 00:37:06:10
Jason Collins
Yes, you could, you could, you could beat people with it. And it was a bludgeoning weapon. Yeah.
00:37:06:10 – 00:37:08:56
Jason Collins
As well as a as a tech device.
00:37:09:01 – 00:37:12:38
Agent Palmer
That’s those are the best tech devices. Those are the ones that should.
00:37:12:38 – 00:37:13:39
Agent Palmer
Show up more in, like.
00:37:13:39 – 00:37:14:56
Agent Palmer
Zombie land.
00:37:15:00 – 00:37:28:28
Jason Collins
Yes, I agree, that’d be awesome. Forget the two by four. Could do the two by four with nails in it. Give me the old OS two IBM keyboard. You want to see some zombie heads roll? I’ll show you.
00:37:28:33 – 00:37:33:22
Agent Palmer
And then you could, you know, with the with the cable, you can hang them or tie him up or. Yes.
00:37:33:24 – 00:37:36:33
Jason Collins
Come out. That thing was 32 multi-use.
00:37:36:44 – 00:37:40:31
Agent Palmer
Yeah. To use. So what.
00:37:40:31 – 00:37:40:58
Agent Palmer
Are you.
00:37:40:58 – 00:37:48:40
Agent Palmer
Running now? Because I’ve, I’ve now moved right to, to basically being exclusively laptop. This is now my life.
00:37:48:51 – 00:38:04:06
Jason Collins
I need I need a workstation. I can’t do laptop laptops or for, for business PC rigs or for fun because, you get to a point where it’s like, oh, man, I’m running out of storage. All right, just slap in another drive. I’m a little slow. I need some more memory, and I’ve got too many programs open.
00:38:04:06 – 00:38:05:44
Jason Collins
Slap another stick of Ram.
00:38:05:48 – 00:38:07:02
Agent Palmer
Okay, but in in.
00:38:07:02 – 00:38:07:40
Agent Palmer
Fairness.
00:38:07:40 – 00:38:11:34
Agent Palmer
I did slap in, I did double. I maxed.
00:38:11:34 – 00:38:12:06
Agent Palmer
Out the ram.
00:38:12:06 – 00:38:14:06
Agent Palmer
In this. So like I did take.
00:38:14:06 – 00:38:14:35
Agent Palmer
It from what it.
00:38:14:35 – 00:38:15:46
Agent Palmer
Was.
00:38:15:51 – 00:38:18:49
Agent Palmer
Higher up. I couldn’t add storage. But I.
00:38:18:49 – 00:38:21:38
Agent Palmer
Also feel like if you let me just keep adding.
00:38:21:38 – 00:38:24:11
Agent Palmer
Storage, I would never organizer archive.
00:38:24:11 – 00:38:27:37
Agent Palmer
Anything. That’s me. Like I’m the guy.
00:38:27:37 – 00:38:29:26
Agent Palmer
Who, every December.
00:38:29:31 – 00:38:31:23
Agent Palmer
Takes all.
00:38:31:28 – 00:38:32:59
Agent Palmer
Three monitors worth of.
00:38:32:59 – 00:38:36:03
Agent Palmer
Icons that have made it to my desktop, puts it in a.
00:38:36:03 – 00:38:37:09
Agent Palmer
Folder labeled.
00:38:37:22 – 00:38:41:05
Agent Palmer
Clean Up 2021. Brags it all in.
00:38:41:05 – 00:38:42:56
Agent Palmer
There, and then starts over for.
00:38:42:56 – 00:38:44:10
Agent Palmer
2022.
00:38:44:15 – 00:38:58:28
Jason Collins
All right, first of all, anybody that’s still using icons on their desktop needs to stop. The desktop is dead. There’s there’s I don’t have a single icon on my desktop. I hardly, I, I hardly you hardly see the wallpaper, let alone the icons.
00:38:58:30 – 00:38:59:58
Agent Palmer
I’m aware of that.
00:39:00:03 – 00:39:01:12
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:39:01:17 – 00:39:17:52
Jason Collins
Not to mention that the desktop itself is nothing more than a folder within the system anyway. No. So if I need a shortcut on the desktop, actually, you know what I do with the desktop is that’s where I dump a lot of temporary files, like stupid little like text notes that I don’t need to keep or I don’t need to back up or worry about.
00:39:17:57 – 00:39:27:24
Jason Collins
I’ll throw them on the desktop, but I access them by going into the folder, the file explorer, and then clicking on desktop and pulling them up. That way I just treat it as another folder.
00:39:27:28 – 00:39:34:20
Agent Palmer
I, I, I just treated it well. My, luckily my, my audio editing.
00:39:34:20 – 00:39:37:06
Agent Palmer
Program exports to my documents folder.
00:39:37:11 – 00:39:39:03
Agent Palmer
But my Photoshop.
00:39:39:08 – 00:39:40:40
Agent Palmer
Export for some reason it.
00:39:40:40 – 00:39:41:16
Agent Palmer
Default.
00:39:41:16 – 00:39:42:01
Agent Palmer
Export.
00:39:42:01 – 00:40:04:26
Agent Palmer
To my desktop. So I just kind of end up with stuff there. And then I’m in a meeting and I don’t feel like using something in the cloud. So I use notepad for notes a lot. Yeah. And then I just save it and it saves there. And it’s just kind of like, I’ll take care of it. And then what happens is I take care of it, but I’m, I’m, I’m.
00:40:04:26 – 00:40:06:06
Agent Palmer
A horrible person for cleaning.
00:40:06:06 – 00:40:09:22
Agent Palmer
That digitally, cleaning that up, which is how I end up with.
00:40:09:37 – 00:40:10:27
Agent Palmer
Every few months.
00:40:10:27 – 00:40:10:52
Agent Palmer
At the end of.
00:40:10:52 – 00:40:13:21
Agent Palmer
The year, whatever it is, I just drag everything.
00:40:13:21 – 00:40:15:58
Agent Palmer
Into a folder and I’m like, oh, I’ll get that later.
00:40:15:58 – 00:40:27:01
Jason Collins
Let’s see you. There’s that. You’re giving yourself an extra step there. You don’t need to do that. You hide all the icons, you never see them, so you don’t have to worry about it. And they’re already in that folder that you’re talking about.
00:40:27:06 – 00:40:27:41
Jason Collins
See what I mean?
00:40:27:41 – 00:40:29:11
Agent Palmer
I know, I know, but I just.
00:40:29:11 – 00:40:34:59
Jason Collins
Saved you like 3 or 3 minutes of work. I.
00:40:35:03 – 00:40:36:06
Agent Palmer
I mean, I do need to go.
00:40:36:06 – 00:40:37:07
Agent Palmer
Through and organize that.
00:40:37:07 – 00:40:40:02
Agent Palmer
Stuff. Like I at the very least, I know I named.
00:40:40:02 – 00:40:41:10
Agent Palmer
Things properly.
00:40:41:10 – 00:40:47:01
Agent Palmer
Which I feel like is a wholly holistic IT thing, because if you don’t.
00:40:47:01 – 00:40:48:31
Agent Palmer
Name things properly.
00:40:48:36 – 00:40:49:05
Agent Palmer
Then when you.
00:40:49:05 – 00:40:49:36
Agent Palmer
Forget what.
00:40:49:36 – 00:40:52:40
Agent Palmer
It is doing, a search is not going to help you.
00:40:52:44 – 00:40:53:22
Jason Collins
Exactly.
00:40:53:29 – 00:40:54:27
Jason Collins
Yeah. I’ve, I’ve.
00:40:54:27 – 00:41:15:03
Jason Collins
You know, I’ve burned myself like that in the early years not not having good organization. But that has changed. And now. Yeah. I can’t live any other way. You have to you have to have a good folder structure and, you know, like categorize everything in a main folder, put your subcategories and folders within that and then your documents within those.
00:41:15:08 – 00:41:16:23
Agent Palmer
I it’s it’s an.
00:41:16:23 – 00:41:17:03
Agent Palmer
Underrated.
00:41:17:03 – 00:41:18:04
Agent Palmer
Skill.
00:41:18:09 – 00:41:21:11
Jason Collins
It’s it’s it is. But like it.
00:41:21:11 – 00:41:28:48
Jason Collins
Makes your life so much easier when you go to find something, you know exactly how to locate it, even if you’re not really sure what the name of the document was, you know where to start looking.
00:41:28:53 – 00:41:30:39
Agent Palmer
I mean, it is kind of one.
00:41:30:39 – 00:41:31:17
Agent Palmer
Of the reasons.
00:41:31:17 – 00:41:35:17
Agent Palmer
That I’m happy that most of the.
00:41:35:21 – 00:41:37:22
Agent Palmer
The last three employers I’ve had.
00:41:37:27 – 00:41:42:28
Agent Palmer
Have all been Google based because, I like.
00:41:42:31 – 00:41:43:34
Agent Palmer
Searches search.
00:41:43:34 – 00:41:47:40
Agent Palmer
When you’re talking about files. But I will tell you at least my last.
00:41:47:40 – 00:41:48:20
Agent Palmer
Experience with.
00:41:48:20 – 00:41:50:33
Agent Palmer
Outlook Google, when.
00:41:50:33 – 00:41:53:17
Agent Palmer
You search in an email, will search in every label.
00:41:53:17 – 00:41:54:32
Agent Palmer
And inbox and.
00:41:54:32 – 00:41:54:57
Agent Palmer
Trash.
00:41:54:57 – 00:41:55:21
Agent Palmer
Thing.
00:41:55:30 – 00:41:56:21
Agent Palmer
Ever.
00:41:56:26 – 00:41:58:12
Agent Palmer
Outlook at its.
00:41:58:12 – 00:41:59:19
Agent Palmer
Worst.
00:41:59:24 – 00:42:00:30
Agent Palmer
Will only let you.
00:42:00:30 – 00:42:05:14
Agent Palmer
Search whatever you’re searching in. So your inbox or a folder, not your.
00:42:05:14 – 00:42:06:17
Agent Palmer
Inbox and a.
00:42:06:17 – 00:42:07:19
Agent Palmer
Folder.
00:42:07:24 – 00:42:08:00
Jason Collins
Well, the.
00:42:08:01 – 00:42:08:31
Jason Collins
And.
00:42:08:36 – 00:42:09:42
Agent Palmer
I’m sure, I’m sure it’s checked.
00:42:09:49 – 00:42:16:11
Jason Collins
Running version. Yeah. It has changed. Yeah. Because I’m running 2019 at work and it there’s an all okay.
00:42:16:16 – 00:42:16:38
Agent Palmer
Well that.
00:42:16:49 – 00:42:17:42
Jason Collins
If you hit all and.
00:42:17:42 – 00:42:18:58
Jason Collins
It’ll it’ll dig stuff.
00:42:18:58 – 00:42:20:40
Agent Palmer
I’m glad they updated that but.
00:42:20:40 – 00:42:23:17
Jason Collins
Like Gmail still kicks it out of you know kicks its ass.
00:42:23:17 – 00:42:25:24
Agent Palmer
But yeah I mean yeah I and I’ve.
00:42:25:24 – 00:42:26:18
Agent Palmer
Tried to organize.
00:42:26:18 – 00:42:33:08
Agent Palmer
Some stuff in like look okay, just don’t look at my Google Drive, all right? If you hack myself, don’t look in there either.
00:42:33:21 – 00:42:38:00
Agent Palmer
That it’s slightly organized but not really.
00:42:38:05 – 00:42:39:27
Jason Collins
And.
00:42:39:31 – 00:42:53:07
Agent Palmer
Look, I, I, I look at the two things that need to be organized. My audio files are organized. And I guess.
00:42:53:11 – 00:42:55:57
Agent Palmer
For better or worse, my blog.
00:42:55:57 – 00:43:01:55
Agent Palmer
But then again, like, that stuff just goes live to the internet and then I that’s how I, that’s how I end up with.
00:43:01:55 – 00:43:03:08
Agent Palmer
So much crap on my desktop.
00:43:03:08 – 00:43:07:44
Agent Palmer
Because like, I, I downloaded this photo to upload it and now it’s like, all right.
00:43:07:49 – 00:43:09:14
Jason Collins
Well.
00:43:09:19 – 00:43:12:30
Agent Palmer
Shit, maybe I’ll need it again.
00:43:12:35 – 00:43:22:08
Jason Collins
I should actually show you my folder so you’d be like, okay, maybe I can I inspire you to, change your, your habits?
00:43:22:08 – 00:43:26:42
Agent Palmer
I mean, I think I can I am easily influenced to to find a.
00:43:26:42 – 00:43:29:19
Agent Palmer
Better way to structure my files.
00:43:29:24 – 00:43:30:31
Jason Collins
Let’s see.
00:43:30:35 – 00:43:35:36
Agent Palmer
All right. So I’m looking at I’m looking at Windows Explorer. Yeah. Okay.
00:43:35:41 – 00:43:40:46
Jason Collins
So here’s my PC and all this fun drives. Yep I’ve named them.
00:43:40:50 – 00:43:41:38
Jason Collins
So most of them.
00:43:41:39 – 00:43:42:26
Agent Palmer
So hold on. This is.
00:43:42:26 – 00:43:44:19
Jason Collins
Games. This is mostly also games. All right.
00:43:44:19 – 00:43:46:52
Agent Palmer
But are those I mean.
00:43:47:02 – 00:43:48:02
Agent Palmer
For the for the.
00:43:48:02 – 00:43:51:04
Agent Palmer
Listening audience I guess. Are those actual.
00:43:51:09 – 00:43:52:26
Agent Palmer
Multiple drives or.
00:43:52:26 – 00:43:53:47
Agent Palmer
Did you do some partitions?
00:43:53:58 – 00:43:56:26
Jason Collins
Now these are all physical.
00:43:56:31 – 00:43:59:12
Jason Collins
Yeah, right. I told you I need a workstation.
00:43:59:16 – 00:44:03:57
Agent Palmer
Okay. All right. Because because I, I guess so for would these.
00:44:03:57 – 00:44:05:09
Agent Palmer
Work with partitions.
00:44:05:09 – 00:44:06:28
Agent Palmer
Space wise if.
00:44:06:28 – 00:44:08:23
Jason Collins
If. Yeah okay. Yeah you could, you could.
00:44:08:23 – 00:44:25:22
Jason Collins
Break them up and give them their own labels. If you guys like a huge drive and you wanted to do it that way, me I, I just kind of like using the full volume and then I’ll just designate it. And I have this I had the space in my, in my PC case for all of this. So anytime I needed more storage, I just grab another driver, slap it in.
00:44:25:23 – 00:44:28:25
Agent Palmer
And so you have I’m looking at this right.
00:44:28:30 – 00:44:30:07
Agent Palmer
You’re the C drive.
00:44:30:12 – 00:44:33:44
Agent Palmer
That’s that’s fine. But then you have six additional one and.
00:44:33:44 – 00:44:35:27
Agent Palmer
Two terabyte drives.
00:44:35:32 – 00:44:35:50
Agent Palmer
Is that.
00:44:35:50 – 00:44:41:31
Jason Collins
Yeah I could they they’re cheaper. You know what I mean. Like a terabyte here a terabyte there.
00:44:41:35 – 00:44:42:41
Jason Collins
Over.
00:44:42:46 – 00:44:45:57
Jason Collins
I don’t know how many years it’s been a year at all. These.
00:44:46:02 – 00:44:51:32
Agent Palmer
Look I want I just want to let you know we talked about like PS2.
00:44:51:32 – 00:44:52:55
Agent Palmer
Controllers for the.
00:44:52:55 – 00:44:54:47
Agent Palmer
IBM when a.
00:44:54:47 – 00:44:56:03
Agent Palmer
Terabyte.
00:44:56:08 – 00:44:57:14
Agent Palmer
Didn’t exist.
00:44:57:14 – 00:44:58:55
Jason Collins
Yeah, that was in our universe.
00:44:58:55 – 00:45:08:03
Jason Collins
People thought about because megabytes was like, well, they were just increasing megabytes. Oh, now this thing can hold like 100MB. Oh, my God, that’s so much space.
00:45:08:03 – 00:45:11:03
Agent Palmer
That’s the zip drive you are. That’s the zip drive, Mark.
00:45:11:03 – 00:45:11:43
Jason Collins
Yeah, the two.
00:45:11:43 – 00:45:13:21
Jason Collins
1500 Meg and then the two 50s.
00:45:13:21 – 00:45:14:59
Jason Collins
Right? Yeah.
00:45:15:04 – 00:45:19:24
Jason Collins
And that was big. And yeah, now terabytes. It’s like, oh, because let me.
00:45:19:28 – 00:45:21:07
Agent Palmer
I still have a USB.
00:45:21:22 – 00:45:21:56
Agent Palmer
Three and a half.
00:45:21:56 – 00:45:24:22
Agent Palmer
Floppy.
00:45:24:27 – 00:45:29:56
Jason Collins
I don’t know I what the heck is even on that I like I have a couple text word document. I have a.
00:45:29:56 – 00:45:31:23
Agent Palmer
Couple text files on there.
00:45:31:28 – 00:45:35:43
Jason Collins
I don’t know that you can put even a single word document out there that with how much office has changed.
00:45:35:45 – 00:45:39:28
Agent Palmer
No, but I, I, I mean, I, I don’t have office, I haven’t had office in.
00:45:39:28 – 00:45:40:40
Agent Palmer
Years.
00:45:40:45 – 00:45:47:53
Agent Palmer
So I use text files and Google docs. So anyway. All right. So so you’ve got individual drives which people can either.
00:45:47:53 – 00:45:50:43
Agent Palmer
Have multiple drives or they can partition their drives.
00:45:50:47 – 00:45:54:58
Agent Palmer
Into whatever. And then then what? Now what.
00:45:55:03 – 00:46:12:40
Jason Collins
And then I organize it by function. Okay. Mega drive, I didn’t change the name. That’s just pure backup. Okay. External. I believe that one’s external. No, this one’s external. This is an internal back drive.
00:46:12:44 – 00:46:14:56
Agent Palmer
Okay, but then you got games.
00:46:15:00 – 00:46:17:49
Jason Collins
I have a lot of games. Which is why I have a lot of drives. Okay.
00:46:17:57 – 00:46:18:36
Agent Palmer
And are your.
00:46:18:36 – 00:46:20:40
Agent Palmer
Game saves also in the games.
00:46:20:40 – 00:46:23:05
Agent Palmer
Folder where they’re installed?
00:46:23:10 – 00:46:25:11
Jason Collins
God, I hope so.
00:46:25:15 – 00:46:27:43
Jason Collins
I mean, I never really the.
00:46:27:48 – 00:46:32:14
Jason Collins
Game saves backup to the steam cloud anyway, so it’s not anything that I’ve ever really worried.
00:46:32:14 – 00:46:33:01
Agent Palmer
About. Okay.
00:46:33:14 – 00:46:41:28
Jason Collins
All right. Well but I, I think they default to the user folder in windows. So yeah they’re probably not on these drives. But that’s not something I worry about too much.
00:46:41:37 – 00:46:43:17
Jason Collins
Okay.
00:46:43:21 – 00:46:49:25
Jason Collins
I don’t play a lot of games that use safe states. I think the most recent game I’ve played that has saved states is Witcher three.
00:46:49:30 – 00:46:54:54
Agent Palmer
All right. So what about like, you know, pictures, movies, you know.
00:46:54:59 – 00:46:56:06
Jason Collins
They’re all on.
00:46:56:11 – 00:46:57:43
Agent Palmer
Is that is that just didn’t see.
00:46:57:43 – 00:46:58:08
Agent Palmer
Under.
00:46:58:13 – 00:47:00:03
Agent Palmer
Documents pictures and movies.
00:47:00:03 – 00:47:24:45
Jason Collins
Now see see is the is just primary. It’s just the OS drive. And like core applications stuff that I use on a daily basis. Discord like for chatting communications that, that sort of thing. Applications, bigger applications like art stuff, video editing. I don’t put them on the C drive, okay? I want them on their own independent drives separate from the operating system.
00:47:24:45 – 00:47:26:17
Jason Collins
You get better performance that way.
00:47:26:22 – 00:47:28:39
Agent Palmer
And I would presume if your.
00:47:28:39 – 00:47:29:43
Agent Palmer
Computer ever dies.
00:47:29:43 – 00:47:32:37
Agent Palmer
It’s just plug and play into the next PC.
00:47:32:41 – 00:47:39:17
Jason Collins
Yeah, all your applications are untouched. It’s only the OS that crapped out. It’s not a big deal. It’s pretty easy to fix.
00:47:39:17 – 00:47:47:14
Agent Palmer
Now, I guess this is the question to ask you here. Did you have a like this system that you have now? Is it because.
00:47:47:14 – 00:47:53:26
Agent Palmer
The computer crapped out on you and you’re like, never again?
00:47:53:31 – 00:48:11:43
Jason Collins
Yes or no? The extra drives are for that because I did have, mechanical hard drive down. I mean, it had a lot of my artwork and stuff on it, and it was unrecoverable. You know, I ran a bunch of different tools trying to get anything off of it, but it wasn’t happening. So I bought some fail safes.
00:48:11:48 – 00:48:13:15
Jason Collins
I don’t have to worry about that now.
00:48:13:20 – 00:48:14:34
Jason Collins
Okay.
00:48:14:39 – 00:48:23:27
Agent Palmer
I, I yeah, I, I don’t know, I, I there’s nothing, I guess with the exception of audio that has.
00:48:23:27 – 00:48:24:32
Agent Palmer
Been recorded and is.
00:48:24:32 – 00:48:28:22
Agent Palmer
Not published, I don’t have anything that’s not.
00:48:28:22 – 00:48:29:58
Agent Palmer
Recoverable.
00:48:30:03 – 00:48:30:39
Agent Palmer
Like, I have.
00:48:30:39 – 00:48:31:17
Agent Palmer
An archive.
00:48:31:17 – 00:48:32:29
Agent Palmer
Of all of the.
00:48:32:29 – 00:48:32:58
Agent Palmer
Raw.
00:48:32:58 – 00:48:34:19
Agent Palmer
Files of.
00:48:34:24 – 00:48:34:45
Agent Palmer
Every.
00:48:34:45 – 00:48:38:46
Agent Palmer
Podcast. Could I do something with that? Maybe down.
00:48:38:46 – 00:48:39:06
Agent Palmer
The road.
00:48:39:06 – 00:48:44:39
Agent Palmer
Maybe. But like once the podcast is up, the podcast is up. You know, the cloud.
00:48:44:44 – 00:48:45:54
Agent Palmer
It’s there, it’s it’s.
00:48:45:54 – 00:48:59:57
Agent Palmer
On YouTube as well. Like it’s in multiple places. So like, unless I really needed the audio file, I don’t, I don’t know. I am not being a gamer. The biggest application I have is.
00:49:00:01 – 00:49:02:02
Agent Palmer
Adobe Creative Suite three.
00:49:02:07 – 00:49:13:16
Jason Collins
Yeah, that one would be a time consumer, to reinstall and reconfigure to your liking. So that would be something that I would probably, you know, like have a contingency for put.
00:49:13:17 – 00:49:14:26
Agent Palmer
On an external, something.
00:49:14:26 – 00:49:26:52
Jason Collins
Like that. Well, I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t run an application from an external because it’s like a for performance. But, backing up your workspace layouts, okay. The files that you’ve built in it, that sort of stuff.
00:49:26:52 – 00:49:27:57
Agent Palmer
Gotcha. Yeah, I mean, I.
00:49:27:57 – 00:49:32:05
Jason Collins
Am and maybe the install files, the install files themselves, I would have on that backup as well.
00:49:32:07 – 00:49:34:51
Agent Palmer
I mean, I do have the a backup of the install files.
00:49:34:51 – 00:49:36:35
Agent Palmer
I am starting to move.
00:49:36:35 – 00:49:41:07
Agent Palmer
To solid state drives. That’s that’s going to be a 2022.
00:49:41:07 – 00:49:42:23
Agent Palmer
Project for me.
00:49:42:28 – 00:49:43:07
Agent Palmer
But like I’m.
00:49:43:07 – 00:49:46:14
Agent Palmer
Slowly trying to get rid of physical disks that are in my house.
00:49:46:25 – 00:49:49:11
Jason Collins
Yeah, they’re no good. They’re they’re.
00:49:49:16 – 00:49:50:08
Agent Palmer
All right. So how about they.
00:49:50:08 – 00:50:08:00
Jason Collins
Have a life expectancy? That’s my problem with them. I mean, they were great when they you but you needed multiples. Yeah. Look at how the server structures used to be like that. Have Raid setups with 3 to 5 drives and they all had the same data on it because they fail mechanically and you still need access to those files.
00:50:08:00 – 00:50:10:06
Agent Palmer
So is there no reason.
00:50:10:11 – 00:50:15:38
Agent Palmer
For me to keep the spindle of blank DVDs and CDs?
00:50:15:38 – 00:50:21:09
Jason Collins
I have no do I screw? I threw all those away so long ago. I grabbed a garbage bag.
00:50:21:09 – 00:50:24:13
Jason Collins
And I’m like, I don’t even know why these are in the house anymore. Trashed them.
00:50:24:18 – 00:50:26:35
Agent Palmer
All right, so, I mean, I need to find out what’s on.
00:50:26:35 – 00:50:26:56
Agent Palmer
The other.
00:50:26:56 – 00:50:37:36
Agent Palmer
Ones, but. And I did spend, I don’t know, a couple of years ago, I spent some time just moving any data CD I had into a, an.
00:50:37:36 – 00:50:38:34
Agent Palmer
External hard drive.
00:50:38:45 – 00:50:41:52
Agent Palmer
I was like, I’ll look through this later.
00:50:41:57 – 00:50:50:47
Jason Collins
Yeah. No, that’s the best thing you could do. Like any of the the writeable media that you do have. Digitize it, throw it in a folder, organize it later, and then just check the media because it’s.
00:50:50:47 – 00:50:52:32
Agent Palmer
What you’re saying, the blank ones.
00:50:52:32 – 00:50:53:42
Agent Palmer
There’s no reason to.
00:50:53:42 – 00:50:54:39
Agent Palmer
Hold on to me.
00:50:54:39 – 00:50:58:05
Jason Collins
Why would you want to drive? You see these in your car? Still.
00:50:58:10 – 00:50:58:31
Agent Palmer
If the.
00:50:58:31 – 00:50:59:33
Agent Palmer
CD player worked.
00:50:59:33 – 00:51:01:30
Agent Palmer
I would.
00:51:01:35 – 00:51:03:07
Jason Collins
So. No, so?
00:51:03:12 – 00:51:11:57
Agent Palmer
So, no. And I’m guessing, and this is a wild hunch that even a used car won’t come with physical media anymore.
00:51:11:59 – 00:51:16:54
Jason Collins
Not. Not likely. You have to spring for that. That’s extra. Actually, I’m not.
00:51:16:54 – 00:51:18:54
Agent Palmer
Kidding. I walk into the dealer and you’re like.
00:51:19:05 – 00:51:20:06
Jason Collins
They’ve charge you for.
00:51:20:06 – 00:51:20:11
Jason Collins
It.
00:51:20:26 – 00:51:23:28
Agent Palmer
Can I can I get a tape deck.
00:51:23:33 – 00:51:25:09
Jason Collins
Of the car? You mind?
00:51:25:12 – 00:51:33:47
Agent Palmer
Cuz because I still have, I still have my tape deck to audio out for, CD converter.
00:51:33:51 – 00:51:39:18
Jason Collins
Nice. I remember them a screenshot of that on Facebook yesterday. In fact.
00:51:39:22 – 00:51:42:02
Jason Collins
The old anti-skid and the cassette, the.
00:51:42:02 – 00:51:44:05
Agent Palmer
Anti skip was the big no.
00:51:44:10 – 00:51:45:45
Jason Collins
It was a crack. No it didn’t work.
00:51:45:45 – 00:51:46:26
Agent Palmer
It just.
00:51:46:30 – 00:51:46:54
Jason Collins
Went in.
00:51:46:54 – 00:51:47:31
Jason Collins
Pennsylvania.
00:51:47:44 – 00:51:48:58
Jason Collins
There’s no anti-skid.
00:51:49:03 – 00:51:50:15
Jason Collins
No not on these roads.
00:51:50:17 – 00:51:57:32
Agent Palmer
No stop signs. Was the anti-skid like red lights. These. Yeah. This is the anti-skid. But even on a highway.
00:51:57:39 – 00:51:59:03
Jason Collins
Yeah. The littlest bumps.
00:51:59:07 – 00:52:00:00
Agent Palmer
00:52:00:05 – 00:52:01:46
Agent Palmer
And I remember.
00:52:01:51 – 00:52:03:59
Agent Palmer
So this is going to, this is going to.
00:52:03:59 – 00:52:04:40
Agent Palmer
Make this very.
00:52:04:40 – 00:52:05:20
Agent Palmer
Specific.
00:52:05:20 – 00:52:08:36
Agent Palmer
But I remember when the new route six.
00:52:08:41 – 00:52:09:51
Agent Palmer
Got opened.
00:52:09:51 – 00:52:13:16
Jason Collins
I remember it opening. I don’t think I ever really wrote on it. I don’t even write on it now.
00:52:13:29 – 00:52:16:43
Agent Palmer
And I can tell you that Anti-Skid.
00:52:16:46 – 00:52:17:44
Agent Palmer
Didn’t work when that.
00:52:17:44 – 00:52:19:58
Agent Palmer
Had just opened.
00:52:20:02 – 00:52:23:08
Jason Collins
And that was smooth pavement and that was.
00:52:23:19 – 00:52:34:22
Agent Palmer
Relatively unused at that point. So yeah, not not a thing, not a thing. So. All right, look, I need to organize my files better.
00:52:34:27 – 00:52:43:54
Jason Collins
Well, yeah, I mean, this is just the drives, but then, like, you know, like, say, oh, here’s my 3D. And then I have those split up into assets, characters, practice projects.
00:52:43:59 – 00:52:54:57
Agent Palmer
I think I 2d similar. I don’t know what it is like. I try and be organized in a lot of pieces of my life, but digitally, I’m just shit at it.
00:52:54:59 – 00:53:21:54
Jason Collins
You just gotta make time. That’s all I did. I was like, oh, this is a mess. I really and then like, one morning, grab my coffee, I said, all right, I’m going to do this. I think I spent about an hour because I had to transfer a lot of large files from drive to drive while I was organizing, so it did take a little longer than I wanted to, but once it was done and you just stick with it going forward, you know when you save a file, just don’t like slap it onto the desktop, give it a space, save yourself.
00:53:21:54 – 00:53:22:53
Jason Collins
In the long run, I think.
00:53:22:53 – 00:53:24:16
Agent Palmer
I’m going to have I think it’s going.
00:53:24:16 – 00:53:25:24
Agent Palmer
To be part of.
00:53:25:33 – 00:53:25:42
Agent Palmer
I.
00:53:25:42 – 00:53:26:54
Agent Palmer
Think my reorganization.
00:53:26:54 – 00:53:37:33
Agent Palmer
Will be moving to SSD because I need to move stuff off of all these spinning drives anyway. So I feel like as long as I organize it, when I move it.
00:53:37:42 – 00:53:38:34
Jason Collins
I mean, you could do that.
00:53:38:37 – 00:53:39:40
Agent Palmer
That’ll be my.
00:53:39:40 – 00:53:42:10
Agent Palmer
The starting point.
00:53:42:15 – 00:53:42:47
Agent Palmer
I also.
00:53:42:47 – 00:53:44:06
Agent Palmer
Have a problem figuring out like.
00:53:44:17 – 00:53:44:54
Agent Palmer
That.
00:53:44:59 – 00:53:45:24
Agent Palmer
For.
00:53:45:24 – 00:53:47:39
Agent Palmer
Me. And I don’t know if you have this.
00:53:47:39 – 00:53:48:34
Agent Palmer
Too, but for me.
00:53:48:34 – 00:54:00:04
Agent Palmer
Because digital is so easy and I guess being in it, we just always seem to have toys around. Like it may not be the best and greatest, but like, I still have.
00:54:00:08 – 00:54:03:16
Agent Palmer
I have to start getting rid of them. But I’m pretty sure I have.
00:54:03:16 – 00:54:04:37
Agent Palmer
Like 15.
00:54:04:42 – 00:54:07:02
Agent Palmer
Unformatted or reformatted.
00:54:07:02 – 00:54:07:48
Agent Palmer
Like.
00:54:07:52 – 00:54:10:52
Agent Palmer
Terabyte drives. I mean, they’re all spinning.
00:54:10:52 – 00:54:11:30
Agent Palmer
But like.
00:54:11:39 – 00:54:12:46
Agent Palmer
Just laying around.
00:54:12:51 – 00:54:16:25
Jason Collins
I mean, you could still use them even for backups or whatever.
00:54:16:25 – 00:54:24:27
Agent Palmer
But like organizing digitally has always been my my worst thing because I always had space. So it was like, yeah, this is unorganized.
00:54:24:27 – 00:54:24:57
Agent Palmer
And I ran out.
00:54:24:57 – 00:54:27:00
Agent Palmer
Of space and maybe there’s duplicates of.
00:54:27:00 – 00:54:29:13
Agent Palmer
Shit on here, but I can just grab another drive.
00:54:29:22 – 00:54:30:00
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:54:30:05 – 00:54:37:11
Jason Collins
Oh, and when I, when I was doing video edits, I did, I did per game folders. Right. So all of the the video clips are all.
00:54:37:11 – 00:54:38:33
Agent Palmer
Yeah, well there.
00:54:38:46 – 00:54:39:40
Agent Palmer
Are better man than I.
00:54:39:40 – 00:54:44:37
Agent Palmer
Man because I, I just, I need, I need to I know I need to do this. I know this.
00:54:44:37 – 00:54:45:08
Agent Palmer
Improves.
00:54:45:08 – 00:54:46:27
Agent Palmer
The quality of my life.
00:54:46:39 – 00:54:54:25
Jason Collins
Yeah it does. And I mean obviously this didn’t happen overnight. Yeah. But you got to start somewhere at some point. Highly recommend it.
00:54:54:34 – 00:54:58:03
Agent Palmer
All right. So here’s my here’s my other questions then. Do I still.
00:54:58:03 – 00:55:00:00
Agent Palmer
Need to run a defrag.
00:55:00:05 – 00:55:06:25
Jason Collins
You know I haven’t done that at all with an SSD. I don’t know if you need to. Never thought about it. Never looked into it.
00:55:06:30 – 00:55:08:12
Agent Palmer
It’s just it’s one of those things.
00:55:08:12 – 00:55:12:28
Agent Palmer
That I remember from, like, back in our college era days.
00:55:12:28 – 00:55:13:14
Agent Palmer
Of being like, all.
00:55:13:14 – 00:55:14:05
Agent Palmer
Right, I’m defrag on the.
00:55:14:05 – 00:55:15:24
Agent Palmer
Computer this weekend.
00:55:15:29 – 00:55:36:50
Jason Collins
Well, that’s because of the way the mechanical drives put things on to those little metal plates. Yeah, there’s little pits on there, and sometimes pieces of the file will get split to different areas of that, like a record, a needle on a record. Yeah. Some like some, you know, like you’re trying to pull up one document. Half of it’s on the outside of the disk and the other half of it’s on the inside.
00:55:36:55 – 00:55:55:53
Jason Collins
It’s going to take longer for that file to open, because the head of the unit’s got to move from the outside to the inside, outside to inside to pull all the information before the document pops up on your screen. So the defrag searches for all those missing pits, and it moves them to a better physical location on that disk.
00:55:55:53 – 00:56:01:47
Jason Collins
Inside the hard drive, so that when you go to open it the next time, it’s faster because all of its components are in one spot.
00:56:01:49 – 00:56:02:44
Agent Palmer
Gotcha.
00:56:02:49 – 00:56:07:22
Jason Collins
I don’t know, I, I should know, but I don’t know how SSDs right.
00:56:07:36 – 00:56:08:45
Agent Palmer
Now, how do you even know.
00:56:08:46 – 00:56:13:15
Jason Collins
They’ll be something? It’s just because I’m old.
00:56:13:20 – 00:56:16:27
Agent Palmer
Because, like, I, I mean, here’s the thing. I am.
00:56:16:27 – 00:56:18:07
Agent Palmer
Not unfamiliar with what you just.
00:56:18:07 – 00:56:22:14
Agent Palmer
Said, and I don’t know how I know that. Right. Like, I.
00:56:22:14 – 00:56:25:39
Agent Palmer
Still remember the difference between ram and Ram.
00:56:25:44 – 00:56:26:42
Jason Collins
Oh, God. Yeah.
00:56:26:42 – 00:56:27:27
Agent Palmer
And that.
00:56:27:32 – 00:56:28:04
Jason Collins
Thing anymore.
00:56:28:06 – 00:56:30:55
Agent Palmer
I it’s not. It’s a dinosaur. It’s extinct.
00:56:30:55 – 00:56:31:20
Agent Palmer
Right.
00:56:31:20 – 00:56:34:08
Agent Palmer
But like, I didn’t but I didn’t go to school.
00:56:34:08 – 00:56:35:03
Agent Palmer
For it either.
00:56:35:18 – 00:56:38:29
Agent Palmer
I just, I just know it it happened.
00:56:38:34 – 00:56:46:24
Jason Collins
It was a thing at one point. Well it they taught us, you know, at least in my school, they taught us that in.
00:56:46:29 – 00:56:49:06
Jason Collins
What grade they start doing computer science.
00:56:49:10 – 00:56:49:30
Agent Palmer
Yeah.
00:56:49:30 – 00:57:09:08
Jason Collins
I mean I don’t know, somewhere around seventh grade maybe. And that that was one of the topics that we had to know the difference between that and because when we did programing, we had to load up a Ram, like the operating system didn’t boot up when the computer did. It was separate. So, you know, you had to type a command to get to it.
00:57:09:08 – 00:57:10:13
Agent Palmer
I want to I want to go back.
00:57:10:13 – 00:57:11:01
Agent Palmer
To command prompt.
00:57:11:03 – 00:57:12:04
Agent Palmer
I, I.
00:57:12:17 – 00:57:14:45
Jason Collins
Used to it’s still there. I use it all the time.
00:57:14:50 – 00:57:22:25
Agent Palmer
No I know believe me, but I want it to be the gateway for every I want to gate keep the internet with command.
00:57:22:30 – 00:57:30:25
Jason Collins
With command prompt. And just slow us down by 50 years.
00:57:30:30 – 00:57:32:24
Agent Palmer
Just 50,
00:57:32:29 – 00:57:33:25
Jason Collins
Yeah.
00:57:33:30 – 00:57:36:14
Jason Collins
Maybe a little less, actually.
00:57:36:19 – 00:57:41:08
Agent Palmer
I just, I yeah, I don’t know, I, I, I feel like.
00:57:41:19 – 00:57:43:47
Agent Palmer
For though, because you were an early adopter of the internet.
00:57:43:47 – 00:57:51:55
Agent Palmer
Too, like. Yeah, it was a simpler time. Like, yeah, I can do this show and put it on the internet and, you know.
00:57:51:59 – 00:57:52:41
Agent Palmer
For free if.
00:57:52:41 – 00:57:54:47
Agent Palmer
I wanted to.
00:57:54:52 – 00:57:56:00
Agent Palmer
But I like distribution.
00:57:56:00 – 00:57:58:11
Agent Palmer
Channels, but like, and I.
00:57:58:13 – 00:57:58:55
Agent Palmer
Could never have.
00:57:58:55 – 00:58:01:06
Agent Palmer
Imagined this, like an.
00:58:01:06 – 00:58:03:36
Agent Palmer
Hour plus conversation.
00:58:03:41 – 00:58:13:47
Agent Palmer
Like, you know, either live if I wanted to or live to tape that this is. And it’s just like, I don’t know, I think I would be alright if I could.
00:58:13:52 – 00:58:15:03
Agent Palmer
Command prompt.
00:58:15:08 – 00:58:16:00
Agent Palmer
Gate, keep the.
00:58:16:00 – 00:58:18:06
Jason Collins
Internet.
00:58:18:11 – 00:58:26:36
Jason Collins
It was a simpler time, but, I mean, it wasn’t even. It was, what do you want to call it? It was more of a, I can’t take the.
00:58:26:36 – 00:58:27:25
Agent Palmer
Word digital.
00:58:27:25 – 00:58:28:13
Agent Palmer
Library.
00:58:28:15 – 00:58:29:13
Agent Palmer
Because it wasn’t like, oh.
00:58:29:13 – 00:58:54:29
Jason Collins
It wasn’t even that then it was. It was almost like a toy. Yeah. It didn’t really have any purpose. It was there. The people building it had a vision for it. But from a consumer perspective, we weren’t going to see that for many, many years. So it’s like, oh, you got the internet. Oh okay. Well I can look up, a cooking recipe on this post board somewhere on this public forum.
00:58:54:34 – 00:58:59:58
Jason Collins
Okay. That’s great. You know, I go outside, ride bikes like, now. It’s ingrained you can’t live without it.
00:59:00:03 – 00:59:02:05
Agent Palmer
Yeah. I mean, that’s I think that might be.
00:59:02:05 – 00:59:02:49
Agent Palmer
One of the reasons.
00:59:02:49 – 00:59:10:25
Agent Palmer
I want to gatekeeping it is because like I this might be too highfalutin for me to say.
00:59:10:25 – 00:59:10:52
Agent Palmer
Really.
00:59:10:52 – 00:59:12:41
Agent Palmer
But I feel like the people that can.
00:59:12:46 – 00:59:13:54
Agent Palmer
Literally.
00:59:13:59 – 00:59:15:42
Agent Palmer
Turn the internet off and go.
00:59:15:42 – 00:59:18:00
Agent Palmer
Away from it for the longest periods of.
00:59:18:00 – 00:59:22:07
Agent Palmer
Time. Are you and me like, are the people that live with it all the time?
00:59:22:17 – 00:59:25:20
Jason Collins
I don’t know, man. I don’t know if I could turn it off anymore. I’m too hooked.
00:59:25:24 – 00:59:29:49
Agent Palmer
Really, like, I, I, I am so happy to, like, shut down a.
00:59:29:49 – 00:59:31:53
Agent Palmer
Computer, finish a project.
00:59:31:53 – 00:59:32:23
Agent Palmer
And then just.
00:59:32:23 – 00:59:34:35
Agent Palmer
Go read a terrestrial book.
00:59:34:35 – 00:59:39:46
Agent Palmer
Like, I watched Netflix and stuff. I know that’s internet connected, but just to not be.
00:59:39:51 – 00:59:40:38
Agent Palmer
On certain.
00:59:40:38 – 00:59:41:34
Agent Palmer
Things.
00:59:41:39 – 00:59:50:29
Jason Collins
Everything I run in my everything I run anymore is internet based. So like I would have to re acclimate to society of of a bygone era.
00:59:50:31 – 00:59:53:56
Agent Palmer
Do you even still have CDs like like music? I mean.
00:59:54:04 – 00:59:58:57
Jason Collins
I, I have so I have like a box of them up in the attic musical ones. Yeah, yeah. But I mean, that’s where they are now.
00:59:58:57 – 01:00:00:30
Agent Palmer
They’re just in the attic.
01:00:00:39 – 01:00:01:34
Jason Collins
They’re in the attic.
01:00:01:38 – 01:00:03:29
Agent Palmer
Like grandpa’s old vinyl.
01:00:03:33 – 01:00:07:13
Jason Collins
Yeah, pretty much. Maybe someday some some hipster.
01:00:07:13 – 01:00:11:56
Jason Collins
Kids of the future will pull them out and say, oh, these sounds so much better than our.
01:00:12:01 – 01:00:16:59
Jason Collins
Quartz crystal based digital optical audio.
01:00:16:59 – 01:00:37:18
Jason Collins
Devices. You know what I mean? Because that’s how they say a vinyl sounds better than CD now. And I’m like, I, I’m pretty sure you’re just saying that because you’re saying that there’s no real science behind that. I mean, they’re cool. I like the nostalgia of them, too. I like that I like that crisp sound you get when you first put the needle on the record.
01:00:37:27 – 01:00:42:55
Jason Collins
Yeah, before the song starts. And that’s pretty much it. Like, I don’t think they have superior audio quality.
01:00:43:00 – 01:00:43:59
Agent Palmer
No. But at the same.
01:00:43:59 – 01:00:45:09
Agent Palmer
Time, we could probably get.
01:00:45:09 – 01:00:47:21
Agent Palmer
You a really good wave.
01:00:47:21 – 01:00:48:22
Agent Palmer
Or MP3.
01:00:48:22 – 01:00:50:22
Agent Palmer
That’s just that needle drop.
01:00:50:22 – 01:01:12:15
Jason Collins
Oh, it could be totally simulated. Yeah, but but there’s also like there’s just there’s there’s also kind of a, a euphoric feeling of, of handling the media and putting the needle on there. Not that I don’t have one, but it’d be cool if I did. I would, I would use it, put on those old big ass headphones with the quarter inch jack stereo system and kick on the bed.
01:01:12:29 – 01:01:15:40
Agent Palmer
I still, I don’t have a bed in my in my basement, but I.
01:01:15:40 – 01:01:17:40
Agent Palmer
Do have a stereo system with a record player.
01:01:17:40 – 01:01:23:02
Agent Palmer
And, actually, it’s kind of, I don’t know.
01:01:23:02 – 01:01:25:21
Agent Palmer
If you remember the stereo.
01:01:25:26 – 01:01:28:28
Agent Palmer
The quote unquote surround sound stereo system I built in.
01:01:28:28 – 01:01:29:39
Agent Palmer
My dorm room.
01:01:29:43 – 01:01:34:42
Agent Palmer
With the, the the the, car audio bank.
01:01:34:42 – 01:01:35:34
Agent Palmer
Speakers.
01:01:35:47 – 01:01:42:26
Agent Palmer
That I bought multiple, multiples of. And it was like, all right, this is this.
01:01:42:26 – 01:01:43:43
Agent Palmer
Is front right and front.
01:01:43:43 – 01:01:47:13
Agent Palmer
Left, even though it’s a bank. Right. I wired it up. But that.
01:01:47:13 – 01:01:48:02
Agent Palmer
Stereo.
01:01:48:02 – 01:01:51:29
Agent Palmer
System is still in my basement. Kind of also.
01:01:51:29 – 01:01:53:04
Agent Palmer
Wired similar with.
01:01:53:04 – 01:01:53:32
Agent Palmer
01:01:53:36 – 01:01:54:39
Agent Palmer
With a record player.
01:01:54:50 – 01:01:57:36
Jason Collins
That wasn’t in Moffitt, though, right? Yeah, it was never that, was it?
01:01:57:37 – 01:02:07:04
Agent Palmer
Yeah. Well, I remember that I had I had hung the audio, banks in the ceiling panels. So you only ever saw the.
01:02:07:04 – 01:02:08:16
Agent Palmer
Main right and.
01:02:08:16 – 01:02:08:39
Agent Palmer
Left.
01:02:08:39 – 01:02:10:23
Agent Palmer
Speakers, but the rest of.
01:02:10:23 – 01:02:11:43
Agent Palmer
My quote unquote.
01:02:11:43 – 01:02:12:55
Agent Palmer
Stereo.
01:02:13:00 – 01:02:15:49
Agent Palmer
System was up in the, ceiling panels.
01:02:16:03 – 01:02:19:36
Jason Collins
Yeah, I had that. I had the Sony one that remembered that from.
01:02:19:48 – 01:02:21:05
Jason Collins
I remember the glass.
01:02:21:05 – 01:02:23:26
Jason Collins
Shattering when Dan was playing guitar the one day.
01:02:23:26 – 01:02:41:32
Jason Collins
Yeah. Were you there for that? I was, yeah, I was like, we just. He just here and play, and all of a sudden it goes quiet and he’s screaming, oh, shit, why you fucking. What the hell happened? There’s glass all over the floor. Like what the. He’s like, dude, it just exploded. You know, we I was like.
01:02:41:37 – 01:02:45:30
Agent Palmer
We both know how he used to play it. It’s no surprise.
01:02:45:35 – 01:02:46:17
Jason Collins
I.
01:02:46:21 – 01:02:56:52
Jason Collins
I think it was just the temperature at the time because. And probably the vibration from the amp. Yeah. Caused it to shatter because it was shattered into tiny, tiny little like. Yeah. Quarter inch cube.
01:02:56:52 – 01:02:58:49
Agent Palmer
It’s it’s what you think of when you think.
01:02:58:49 – 01:02:59:58
Agent Palmer
About like a breakable.
01:02:59:58 – 01:03:00:56
Agent Palmer
Glass.
01:03:01:01 – 01:03:02:26
Jason Collins
Yeah. Right. Yeah.
01:03:02:31 – 01:03:12:13
Jason Collins
And it was just a big old pile of it on the ground. And they weren’t jagged cuts either. So it’s not like he smashed it with like he wasn’t paying attention, and he bumped into it and broken into little pieces like a mirror.
01:03:12:17 – 01:03:16:17
Jason Collins
Yeah, they were they were.
01:03:16:21 – 01:03:33:45
Jason Collins
Like perfect little squares and they were smooth. And I don’t think you could pick them up with your hand and not get cut so that that was some like, crazy science that happened there. Yeah. Well and that’s I, I’ve had I had that happen one other time in my life to a car window. The heat from the inside of the car.
01:03:33:50 – 01:03:42:50
Jason Collins
And it was a hot summer day. And I walked out of the car and the window was gone. And there was just those tiny little square glass pieces all over the inside and outside of the car. It had just exploded.
01:03:42:51 – 01:03:45:05
Agent Palmer
No, maybe a superhero and you don’t know it?
01:03:45:09 – 01:03:52:00
Jason Collins
Yeah, I did it with my mind.
01:03:52:05 – 01:03:56:28
Agent Palmer
You?
01:03:56:33 – 01:03:58:04
Agent Palmer
So, as an addendum.
01:03:58:04 – 01:03:58:48
Agent Palmer
To the friendship.
01:03:58:48 – 01:04:01:53
Agent Palmer
Episodes of 25 through 28, this one is.
01:04:01:53 – 01:04:04:12
Agent Palmer
As important, perhaps more so.
01:04:04:17 – 01:04:05:47
Agent Palmer
As Jason and I discuss.
01:04:05:47 – 01:04:07:22
Agent Palmer
Those friendships that remain.
01:04:07:22 – 01:04:08:07
Agent Palmer
The ones that.
01:04:08:07 – 01:04:08:43
Agent Palmer
Endure.
01:04:08:43 – 01:04:10:00
Agent Palmer
Against all odds over.
01:04:10:00 – 01:04:14:24
Agent Palmer
The decades are rare. But perhaps even more rare is.
01:04:14:24 – 01:04:16:00
Agent Palmer
The fact that Jason and I have.
01:04:16:07 – 01:04:16:52
Agent Palmer
A friendship.
01:04:16:52 – 01:04:19:07
Agent Palmer
Again. It was happenstance.
01:04:19:07 – 01:04:21:23
Agent Palmer
That former guest Chris Hughes started his stream.
01:04:21:23 – 01:04:22:26
Agent Palmer
And connected Jason.
01:04:22:26 – 01:04:23:39
Agent Palmer
And I back together.
01:04:23:44 – 01:04:25:24
Agent Palmer
But it won’t be that.
01:04:25:24 – 01:04:27:18
Agent Palmer
Stream that keeps us together.
01:04:27:28 – 01:04:29:56
Agent Palmer
We’ve been talking, and while life and circumstances.
01:04:29:56 – 01:04:32:31
Agent Palmer
Conspire against our getting together and playing.
01:04:32:31 – 01:04:36:10
Agent Palmer
Music again, we still find time to talk, which is something we haven’t done.
01:04:36:10 – 01:04:37:24
Agent Palmer
On a regular basis.
01:04:37:29 – 01:04:41:27
Agent Palmer
Since college, really. And as Jason and I discussed.
01:04:41:32 – 01:04:43:47
Agent Palmer
It won’t work for everyone.
01:04:43:47 – 01:04:45:19
Agent Palmer
You used to know.
01:04:45:24 – 01:04:49:13
Agent Palmer
But if there is someone you want to reach out to, just reach out.
01:04:49:18 – 01:04:50:38
Agent Palmer
The worst that can happen.
01:04:50:38 – 01:04:51:18
Agent Palmer
Is that you remain.
01:04:51:18 – 01:04:54:56
Agent Palmer
Acquaintances connected by some social media. Maybe Jason is.
01:04:54:56 – 01:04:55:50
Agent Palmer
Also correct that.
01:04:55:59 – 01:04:58:30
Agent Palmer
I shouldn’t gate keep the internet with.
01:04:58:30 – 01:05:00:52
Agent Palmer
Command prompt, and he’s probably correct.
01:05:00:52 – 01:05:02:22
Agent Palmer
That I should get my.
01:05:02:22 – 01:05:02:47
Agent Palmer
Digital.
01:05:02:47 – 01:05:06:48
Agent Palmer
Organization going. But most importantly, I’m just glad we can.
01:05:06:48 – 01:05:07:29
Agent Palmer
Joke around.
01:05:07:29 – 01:05:10:59
Agent Palmer
Like we used to, but also that we can talk about the things.
01:05:10:59 – 01:05:11:55
Agent Palmer
We’re going through right.
01:05:11:55 – 01:05:18:56
Agent Palmer
Now. We met along time ago, and while we’ve both changed, it still works. And that’s not to be.
01:05:18:56 – 01:05:20:24
Agent Palmer
Understated or taken for granted.
01:05:20:24 – 01:05:22:02
Agent Palmer
Because again.
01:05:22:07 – 01:05:23:37
Agent Palmer
As I said earlier.
01:05:23:42 – 01:05:27:16
Agent Palmer
I don’t think this works with just anyone.
01:05:27:21 – 01:05:28:15
Agent Palmer
So reach out to.
01:05:28:15 – 01:05:29:26
Agent Palmer
Someone, do it.
01:05:29:31 – 01:05:30:55
Agent Palmer
And perhaps you’ll.
01:05:30:55 – 01:05:39:33
Agent Palmer
Reconnect as if no time has passed. Good luck and let me know how you fare. Thanks for listening to The Palmer Files episode 65.

Unknown
You.
01:06:19:48 – 01:06:32:40
Unknown
Be.
01:06:32:45 – 01:06:48:49
Unknown
Reach.
01:06:48:54 – 01:06:53:37
Unknown
Me.
01:06:53:42 – 01:06:56:04
Agent Palmer
All right. Jason, do you have one final question for me?
01:06:56:04 – 01:07:19:42
Jason Collins
Yeah. So since we’re on the topic of all things tech, there’s a huge push out there for coders, software engineers at this point, which I fell away from, when I got into it because it was mostly hardware and networking at that point. So I’m in a different world at this point. But I used to code and I did enjoy it, and I still tinker with it from time to time.
01:07:19:46 – 01:07:26:54
Jason Collins
But I remember you were making websites and stuff. Did you ever keep up with that? Like when did you start doing that? And, are you still doing it?
01:07:27:05 – 01:07:31:56
Agent Palmer
I, I guess I could say that I taught.
01:07:31:56 – 01:07:33:07
Agent Palmer
Myself around.
01:07:33:07 – 01:07:33:55
Agent Palmer
2008.
01:07:33:55 – 01:07:36:05
Agent Palmer
Like after college, I really taught.
01:07:36:05 – 01:07:38:50
Agent Palmer
Myself HTML again. But I had.
01:07:38:50 – 01:07:40:02
Agent Palmer
Started originally.
01:07:40:02 – 01:07:43:02
Agent Palmer
With the GeoCities site, and.
01:07:43:02 – 01:07:43:54
Agent Palmer
Like hard coding a.
01:07:43:54 – 01:07:52:50
Agent Palmer
GeoCities site back in, I don’t know, whatever. Seventh grade was so 97, 98, something like that. And, when I.
01:07:52:50 – 01:07:56:40
Agent Palmer
When I taught myself after college.
01:07:56:45 – 01:07:57:16
Agent Palmer
I was.
01:07:57:16 – 01:07:57:54
Agent Palmer
A very.
01:07:57:54 – 01:07:59:16
Agent Palmer
Like, old school, like.
01:07:59:16 – 01:08:00:21
Agent Palmer
It’s one of the reasons I use.
01:08:00:21 – 01:08:04:24
Agent Palmer
Notepad for notes, because I was just using notepad to build websites, and I was.
01:08:04:29 – 01:08:04:45
Agent Palmer
Hard.
01:08:04:45 – 01:08:11:32
Agent Palmer
Coding them in HTML. And then then you learn about that, the stylesheet, like just actually do it like.
01:08:11:41 – 01:08:13:02
Jason Collins
With CSS is, I mean, because.
01:08:13:04 – 01:08:16:59
Agent Palmer
When you CSS is amazing, it’s magic. Especially when you.
01:08:16:59 – 01:08:18:42
Agent Palmer
Start with hard.
01:08:18:47 – 01:08:23:13
Agent Palmer
HTML and you go like, oh wait, I don’t have to hard code.
01:08:23:13 – 01:08:24:00
Agent Palmer
Every line.
01:08:24:00 – 01:08:40:29
Agent Palmer
I can give it a name because it’s amazing. Yeah. And then, I got lazy. So. So what happens is I, I started my business in 2008, and at that point I was hard coding any website that I was getting in. And then if you.
01:08:40:29 – 01:08:41:32
Agent Palmer
Flash forward to.
01:08:41:32 – 01:08:44:14
Agent Palmer
About 2010 or 11.
01:08:44:28 – 01:08:46:36
Agent Palmer
When I get my first real professional marketing.
01:08:46:36 – 01:08:49:09
Agent Palmer
Job, we it would the place.
01:08:49:09 – 01:08:51:26
Agent Palmer
I was working had a WordPress website.
01:08:51:31 – 01:08:52:07
Agent Palmer
And so I got.
01:08:52:07 – 01:08:56:31
Agent Palmer
Familiar with WordPress. Now, the thing about WordPress, which still remains true to this.
01:08:56:31 – 01:09:00:44
Agent Palmer
Day, is you can use HTML. It still allows you.
01:09:00:44 – 01:09:02:19
Agent Palmer
That source input.
01:09:02:23 – 01:09:04:42
Agent Palmer
But like, I got lazy and when.
01:09:04:42 – 01:09:07:31
Agent Palmer
I learned how WordPress worked.
01:09:07:36 – 01:09:10:09
Agent Palmer
I got a little bit into PHP. Like enough to be.
01:09:10:09 – 01:09:11:34
Agent Palmer
Dangerous and really screw.
01:09:11:34 – 01:09:12:52
Agent Palmer
Stuff up.
01:09:12:56 – 01:09:13:14
Jason Collins
Yeah.
01:09:13:29 – 01:09:14:28
Agent Palmer
But I also got.
01:09:14:28 – 01:09:15:31
Agent Palmer
Away from hard.
01:09:15:31 – 01:09:18:33
Agent Palmer
Coding, so I still have that knowledge base, but I.
01:09:18:33 – 01:09:19:52
Agent Palmer
Don’t scratch it.
01:09:19:57 – 01:09:30:21
Agent Palmer
At all. I mean, I’d like to go back, but like, I’m a guy who now I complain when I absolutely think that.
01:09:30:21 – 01:09:31:49
Agent Palmer
Every step forward in.
01:09:31:49 – 01:09:33:28
Agent Palmer
Like the wizzy wig.
01:09:33:28 – 01:09:35:06
Agent Palmer
Visual editors.
01:09:35:11 – 01:09:36:12
Agent Palmer
Is a step.
01:09:36:12 – 01:09:37:54
Agent Palmer
Further away from what.
01:09:37:54 – 01:09:41:43
Agent Palmer
It should be, and it just adds more bloat and shit like that to the oh.
01:09:41:43 – 01:09:45:26
Jason Collins
Yeah, oh, it certainly does. People don’t optimize code at all.
01:09:45:36 – 01:09:48:30
Agent Palmer
I just well, and you know, in.
01:09:48:34 – 01:09:50:17
Jason Collins
They do in some instances.
01:09:50:22 – 01:09:55:10
Agent Palmer
Yeah. But for the most part they don’t need to because like, oh it is in there, the speed will.
01:09:55:12 – 01:09:57:04
Agent Palmer
Be faster in a year. So what it.
01:09:57:09 – 01:09:58:03
Agent Palmer
Is, it’s not going to matter.
01:09:58:03 – 01:09:59:59
Agent Palmer
They can read it faster and yeah.
01:10:00:00 – 01:10:00:22
Jason Collins
Yeah.
01:10:00:28 – 01:10:01:44
Jason Collins
So back, back.
01:10:01:53 – 01:10:05:09
Jason Collins
Back way back when know those old IBM days.
01:10:05:21 – 01:10:06:34
Jason Collins
Yeah.
01:10:06:39 – 01:10:21:27
Jason Collins
You were limited on Ram, and if you wanted a program to run, you could fill all of the Ram and do no more with your code. You had to be very specific in your structure and all of your code.
01:10:21:40 – 01:10:22:34
Jason Collins
So to that end.
01:10:22:34 – 01:10:24:07
Jason Collins
And that limitation to.
01:10:24:07 – 01:10:29:22
Agent Palmer
That end, I wish I could tell you what language I used. I think it was just basic, but I.
01:10:29:22 – 01:10:30:07
Agent Palmer
Remember.
01:10:30:19 – 01:10:33:36
Agent Palmer
Outside of HTML and CSS.
01:10:33:41 – 01:10:35:20
Agent Palmer
I remember hard.
01:10:35:20 – 01:10:40:22
Agent Palmer
Coding. Hard coding like this is the geekiest thing I will ever.
01:10:40:22 – 01:10:40:59
Agent Palmer
Probably.
01:10:40:59 – 01:10:42:32
Agent Palmer
Say on this podcast.
01:10:42:37 – 01:10:43:29
Agent Palmer
I remember.
01:10:43:29 – 01:10:53:27
Agent Palmer
Coding in basic cheat codes for Geometry in math class on my graphic calculator because like we were allowed to use the calculator.
01:10:53:40 – 01:10:54:18
Agent Palmer
But we weren’t.
01:10:54:18 – 01:10:58:30
Agent Palmer
Allowed to use notes. So the night before I would be in basic.
01:10:58:44 – 01:11:00:08
Agent Palmer
Programing.
01:11:00:23 – 01:11:02:40
Agent Palmer
The
01:11:02:45 – 01:11:04:11
Agent Palmer
Like variations.
01:11:04:11 – 01:11:06:39
Agent Palmer
Of the theme so I could input X, Y.
01:11:06:39 – 01:11:09:10
Agent Palmer
And Z or whatever I needed to, wherever I needed.
01:11:09:10 – 01:11:09:44
Agent Palmer
To in.
01:11:09:44 – 01:11:13:16
Agent Palmer
A program and just hit enter and it would give me everything I.
01:11:13:16 – 01:11:17:08
Agent Palmer
Needed. Yeah. Which is not how you cheat, by the way.
01:11:17:15 – 01:11:19:07
