Yes, I would have Andy Capp’s Salsa Fries with that
I can snack with the best of them. Movie marathons, binging television series, autumn weekends with lots of football, or a long evening gaming session all go better with lots of snacks.
If I had druthers for one specific snack, my favorite would be Andy Capp’s Salsa Fries. But as they don’t exist anymore, I will give a pass to Andy Capp’s Hot Fries and the many other kinds of chips and pretzels. But they are not a replacement for Salsa Fries.
Again, Hot Fries comes close, but it’s just not the same.
There was a savory aspect to the flavor that balanced the spice and make the flavor pop, not burn your face. Nothing has come close since.
I was introduced to Salsa Fries when I was a freshman in high school. Specifically, one of the upper classmen playing tenor sax shared some with me. From then on, that was my go-to high school snack.

I don’t remember his name, but he was the person who introduced me to my favorite junk food snack.
Even then, in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Andy Capp’s Salsa Fries were not the most readily available snack. Even Hot Fries, which were more accessible, still weren’t available everywhere. So, what is a hungry teenage boy to do?
You eat the Doritos, the Utz, the Lays, the Middleswarth, and so on. You may have a favorite, but teenage boys don’t necessarily have the most discerning of palettes. While sugar is fine for some, my snacking vice was salty. Truth be told, it paired nicely with the sugar of my regular old Mountain Dew. I never bought into the Code Red hype, and back then, those were our only options.
Now as time goes on, we all tend to move away from things we enjoyed when we were younger. That happens relative to music, book genres, and movies, and for some it happens to food stuff.
I believe it was seeing and then buying a bag of Hot Fries that I sought out my beloved Salsa Fries – only to find that Salsa Fries are no longer available. That’s not just a problem in my area or at my local store: they are no longer being made, period!

Now, there are Reddit posts that occasionally pop up with people who similarly miss Salsa Fries. Recently, people are saying that the new Andy Capp’s Fire Fries taste almost identical.
While I haven’t partaken a Fire Fries taste test yet, I can’t believe Salsa Fries ever got the boot to begin with! There’s even a 2019 Change.org petition to ConAgra to bring the flavor back! Sadly, only 1,700 people agree with me.
Andy Capp’s Fries had many flavors; Hot Fries, Salsa Fries, White Cheddar Cheese Steak Fries, Ranch Fries, Hot Chili Cheese Steak Fries, Cheddar Fries, BBQ Fries, Beer Battered Onion Rings, Beer Battered Onion Rings Hot, and these new Fire Fires, as well as Fire Tots Puffcorn.
Amazon, the apparent marketplace of the world, has some of these available, and it will probably be the way I taste test Fire Fries, but ConAgra should just bring back Salsa Fries.
Those things were the bomb!
