Sue Ann Nivens on Snow from Mary Tyler Moore Show

As the snow falls now and over the last few days, it has blanketed much of the country, bringing some places to a halt, I’m reminded of Betty White’s character Sue Ann Nivens on the Mary Tyler Moore show and what she had to say about snow.

It could quite simply be the best description of snowfall in modern media, and it was written in the 1970s!

Isn’t it simply beautiful out there. I mean, snow always inspires such awe in me. Just consider, one single snowflake alone, so delicate, so fragile, so ethereal. And yet, let a billion of them come together through the majestic force of nature… They can screw up a whole city.

I simply adore this quote. It’s eloquent, majestic, poetic and truthful all at once. If there exists a better quote about snow, I’m willing to hear it, but I think this is arguably the best quote there is.
