Agent Palmer
Hello, and welcome to The Palmer Files. I’m your host, Jason, also known as Agent Palmer. And on this 186th episode is my beautiful wife, Stefanie. Stef. Like my friends Zapata, Chris, Chris and Bill returned to help me finish the Proust questionnaire that I started with the boys. But what is this that we are completing? This is a series of episodes that has finally run its course where my friends, specifically those from the friendship episodes, return to the show and ask me a select few questions from Proust’s questionnaire.
00:01:35:19 – 00:01:55:49
Agent Palmer
But my friends didn’t ask all the questions, so Stef has returned to ask the rest. Check out episodes 152, 155. 159 and 163 for the previous questionnaire episodes, there are 17 questions in total, but Steph will only be asking the questions that remain a link to the questionnaire. Wikipedia entry is in the show notes if you want a history lesson.
00:01:55:54 – 00:02:16:09
Agent Palmer
Aside from the questions Stef asks, we discuss collecting mother figures, workaholism, empathy, humor, flora, fauna, and all of that is coming your way shortly. But first, remember that if you want to discuss the episode as you listen or afterward, you can find all related ways to contact us in the show notes. Don’t forget, you can see all of my writings and rantings on Agent palmer.com.
00:02:16:09 – 00:02:28:31
Agent Palmer
And of course, email can be sent to the Palmer files@gmail.com. So without further ado, let’s get into it.
00:02:28:36 – 00:02:39:51
Agent Palmer
Stef, I did not get through all of the questionnaire with my friends. From the friendship episodes. And so I’ve invited you back.
00:02:39:56 – 00:02:40:41
Stefanie Stershic
Yes.
00:02:40:46 – 00:02:42:56
Agent Palmer
So I can finish the questionnaire.
00:02:43:01 – 00:02:45:00
Stefanie Stershic
How good. Lucky for you.
00:02:45:15 – 00:03:11:35
Agent Palmer
Well so here’s the thing. Right. Like the friendship episodes, the Bruce questionnaire was more or less held back until everybody recorded. So. Well obviously Chris Maier went first, but Bill, Zapata and Chris Hughes, none of them got to hear any of the episodes beforehand. And Chris was obviously Maier was the first one, so he wouldn’t have heard it anyway.
00:03:11:37 – 00:03:13:42
Agent Palmer
Right. You’ve heard all four of them?
00:03:13:44 – 00:03:15:32
Stefanie Stershic
I have I feel like I have an advantage.
00:03:15:35 – 00:03:25:03
Agent Palmer
So there’s no, there’s no mystery here. You know, you are very aware that you are answering these questions, too. Yeah. Which, you know, that.
00:03:25:08 – 00:03:26:53
Stefanie Stershic
Came as a surprise to everyone else.
00:03:27:00 – 00:03:28:05
Agent Palmer
Yeah.
00:03:28:10 – 00:03:29:31
Stefanie Stershic
Like what?
00:03:29:36 – 00:03:39:38
Agent Palmer
So I only got through four in each of those episodes, so I don’t know if we’re going to be able to speed run this. I don’t know if we’re going to finish this. I hope we are. There’s six to go.
00:03:39:43 – 00:03:41:45
Stefanie Stershic
And several of them are quite easy.
00:03:41:50 – 00:03:45:45
Agent Palmer
Okay. Well, let’s just jump right in then. What’s what? What are we doing first?
00:03:45:47 – 00:03:50:40
Stefanie Stershic
Well, first we’re going to start with a not easy one. Your favorite qualities in a woman.
00:03:50:42 – 00:04:17:19
Agent Palmer
So obviously this is a a pair with the one from the episode, which was, favorite qualities in a man, which we assumed we made assumptions. The whole way, which was because the potter was asking me it was your in your fellow man. Not necessarily friendship but in your fellow man. So obviously you’re asking me the opposite one.
00:04:17:21 – 00:04:38:25
Agent Palmer
Yeah. So I just want you to know I’m going to turn it around on you as well. Oh, I know, but favorite qualities in a woman. I it’s really hard to answer because I don’t think, boy, this is going to sound very, like, awkward, but, like, I don’t think I’ve ever looked at the qualities of like, friendship.
00:04:38:30 – 00:04:48:55
Agent Palmer
Or relationship any differently based on gender. Yeah. As I got older, when I was younger it was very shallow.
00:04:49:03 – 00:04:51:29
Stefanie Stershic
Well yeah I mean I was shallow when they’re young.
00:04:51:31 – 00:05:12:23
Agent Palmer
Yeah. So but I, you know, it’s one of those things where the thing that comes around and I think has probably been a through line in every relationship, not just hours. You have to like me too. Like there there’s a no. Don’t look.
00:05:12:28 – 00:05:17:54
Stefanie Stershic
If, if you’re in a relationship with someone where you like them and they don’t like you, that’s not a relationship. Get out now.
00:05:17:56 – 00:05:42:40
Agent Palmer
Yeah. I don’t, I don’t know, I guess, over time, I’ve come to say that, whether it’s in this marriage that we have or in a relationship with any female, I feel like I need an amount of commonality in, like, either hobbies or like, something because.
00:05:42:45 – 00:05:47:18
Stefanie Stershic
Okay, but hobby is not quality. Favorite quality?
00:05:47:23 – 00:05:48:09
Agent Palmer
00:05:48:13 – 00:05:53:52
Stefanie Stershic
I say something so I can see if I have it, too.
00:05:53:57 – 00:06:17:19
Agent Palmer
I you know what? I, I so I, I guess the answer would be like truthfulness, like, I, I want, I want honesty. Yeah. More than anything, I think probably I mean I, I’m the like this is a very hard question for me because specifically speaking I am a I’m, I and I, I don’t know that this is limited to me, but I know specifically me.
00:06:17:24 – 00:06:22:43
Agent Palmer
I’ve had more moms like in my life, and I still have more moms in my.
00:06:22:43 – 00:06:23:57
Stefanie Stershic
Life.
00:06:24:02 – 00:06:30:28
Agent Palmer
Than I probably rightly should, having been adopted by many. Yeah. Just.
00:06:30:28 – 00:06:31:44
Stefanie Stershic
Collected mother figures.
00:06:31:52 – 00:06:58:04
Agent Palmer
And and I, I think that maybe more than anything, it’s the honesty and and and the like, we’re, we’re not gonna spare your like, we’re not trying to care about your feelings necessarily. Yeah. We’re just gonna tell you the truth. Which I think I feel like I get more from my mother figures. And the the the female friends I have than any of the guy counterparts I have.
00:06:58:11 – 00:06:58:57
Stefanie Stershic
It makes sense.
00:06:59:02 – 00:07:00:47
Agent Palmer
So I guess let’s go with that.
00:07:00:52 – 00:07:01:26
Stefanie Stershic
Okay.
00:07:01:35 – 00:07:03:38
Agent Palmer
So for you.
00:07:03:42 – 00:07:04:23
Stefanie Stershic
00:07:04:28 – 00:07:07:47
Agent Palmer
What is your favorite quality in a man.
00:07:07:57 – 00:07:25:39
Stefanie Stershic
Well and, and because I had asked you this beforehand I said do I have to answer it about women. Because I absolutely can. And, and funny enough like my answer for women is the same as what my answer for a man would be. And that’s also truthfulness. Like, I feel like trust is a very important factor in.
00:07:25:41 – 00:07:27:12
Agent Palmer
Well, honestly, it’s different than trust.
00:07:27:15 – 00:07:54:23
Stefanie Stershic
Well okay. Well honesty but but I think also because you said honesty, then I can go for trust because it’s you’re you’re right. It’s a little bit different. But I think having someone who you can trust in and also trusts in you is a pretty important quality. And I think that leads to being able to have good understanding, have good relationships, whether that’s romantic, platonic, it doesn’t really matter.
00:07:54:37 – 00:07:57:58
Stefanie Stershic
But that’s what I’m going to go with is trust.
00:07:58:06 – 00:08:13:53
Agent Palmer
Well, I mean, I know, I know, I have that. I feel like you’re not as honest as you could be with me or not as honest as I want you to be. I want you to be more critical of me a lot of the times than you usually are.
00:08:13:57 – 00:08:24:59
Stefanie Stershic
See? But that’s different because that’s not so much honesty as I have a hard time like being critical of myself, of others.
00:08:25:11 – 00:08:25:40
Agent Palmer
Like it’s just.
00:08:25:42 – 00:08:27:45
Stefanie Stershic
Okay, I think I’m too nice.
00:08:27:47 – 00:08:41:27
Agent Palmer
Let’s, let’s let’s let everybody in. I will occasionally give you advanced rough copies of blog posts or of intros and outros, specifically outros. And you are.
00:08:41:32 – 00:08:45:39
Stefanie Stershic
I will immediately check it for like, grammar and like punctuation and.
00:08:45:53 – 00:08:46:27
Agent Palmer
Like.
00:08:46:32 – 00:08:48:55
Stefanie Stershic
And then you’re like, no, no, no. Is it is it good? Yeah.
00:08:48:58 – 00:08:59:52
Agent Palmer
It’s good. Yeah. As things can change, I think one of the things is you’re a fan. Like, I don’t I don’t mean that in a bad way, but like, you’re a fan of the things I do. Yeah. And I think.
00:08:59:55 – 00:09:06:14
Stefanie Stershic
And I think you’re good at it. So it’s hard. It’s hard to be. It’s hard to be a subjective.
00:09:06:18 – 00:09:07:54
Agent Palmer
And that’s what I’m asking for.
00:09:07:57 – 00:09:12:35
Stefanie Stershic
I know, but that’s what you have Chris for.
00:09:12:40 – 00:09:13:11
Stefanie Stershic
Okay.
00:09:13:25 – 00:09:15:06
Agent Palmer
All right. Let’s move along.
00:09:15:08 – 00:09:16:08
Stefanie Stershic
Okay. Moving on.
00:09:16:13 – 00:09:19:13
Agent Palmer
What is the the next question?
00:09:19:22 – 00:09:22:39
Stefanie Stershic
Your chief characteristic.
00:09:22:44 – 00:09:23:56
Agent Palmer
So I.
00:09:24:00 – 00:09:28:29
Stefanie Stershic
And I would take this at meeting, like, I guess what you would consider your.
00:09:28:34 – 00:09:29:15
Agent Palmer
My own.
00:09:29:17 – 00:09:30:02
Stefanie Stershic
Your own like.
00:09:30:05 – 00:09:31:48
Agent Palmer
Chief, like my essence.
00:09:31:53 – 00:09:38:12
Stefanie Stershic
Maybe essence, but like or even like. What is the one thing like your you think other people’s see about you?
00:09:38:14 – 00:09:48:21
Agent Palmer
Well, what? Well, that. What what I think other people see in me is. That’s easier than what I think mine is.
00:09:48:28 – 00:09:52:08
Stefanie Stershic
Okay, well, the easy one. And then think about the hard one. So I’m not.
00:09:52:08 – 00:09:58:34
Agent Palmer
Letting what other people see in me is like the persistence and the workaholic stuff.
00:09:58:46 – 00:09:59:13
Stefanie Stershic
Okay.
00:09:59:20 – 00:10:31:08
Agent Palmer
You know, I think that, you know, the podcast and the blog are outwardly public examples of those things. But those kind of qualities existed all along. I just did it in other like less public things. Yeah. And so you know and it’s not you know I love Bill. And Bill understands that I have that consistency. And obviously he did with Wicked Theory for a long time.
00:10:31:11 – 00:10:31:59
Stefanie Stershic
As well. Yeah.
00:10:32:06 – 00:10:42:20
Agent Palmer
And I think he fell off the track. The momentum stopped for him obviously. Bill get back on like seriously not just when I have you on, but just come on.
00:10:42:22 – 00:10:45:22
Stefanie Stershic
Please, Bill. Please. For me. Come on.
00:10:45:24 – 00:10:48:51
Agent Palmer
Well, let’s not start on that because you and Hannah should start your show.
00:10:49:05 – 00:10:51:01
Stefanie Stershic
Oh, the handles busy doing other things.
00:10:51:02 – 00:10:52:29
Agent Palmer
No, he’s got time.
00:10:52:34 – 00:10:53:53
Stefanie Stershic
He does not have time.
00:10:53:57 – 00:10:55:11
Agent Palmer
Yeah, he would make time for.
00:10:55:21 – 00:10:58:19
Stefanie Stershic
Stop! Oh! Come on. I want him to have his bands and?
00:10:58:19 – 00:11:03:33
Agent Palmer
And he can still do that. You guys don’t need a show. You don’t have to be. Behold.
00:11:03:38 – 00:11:05:23
Stefanie Stershic
I what would we talk about?
00:11:05:30 – 00:11:10:49
Agent Palmer
Oh, I for the very beginning of that, my listening to Gotham lights, I just you.
00:11:10:49 – 00:11:11:13
Stefanie Stershic
Only listen.
00:11:11:13 – 00:11:13:25
Agent Palmer
To the. I only listened to you talking.
00:11:13:27 – 00:11:17:44
Stefanie Stershic
I know and started talking about the actual thing we were podcasting about. You turned it off.
00:11:17:46 – 00:11:35:38
Agent Palmer
No, I still listened, but I tuned it out. Yeah, I’m just I. I listened for the Stefan Hanno show. No, I, I think it’s that that persistence and that consistency. Consistency. And I, I probably is a bit of workaholism, in that. Yeah. It’s just.
00:11:35:43 – 00:11:40:35
Stefanie Stershic
So do either of those things lead to what you think your chief characteristic is?
00:11:40:40 – 00:12:09:53
Agent Palmer
I mean, they’re related, but. No, I mean, I think my chief characteristic is my ability to strategize and plan and be like a forward thinker, which in an inwardly way, allows me to do what people see as the outward thing. Like it’s my planning and strategy that allows me to be so consistent, and it’s the workaholic in me that allows both of those things to be true.
00:12:10:07 – 00:12:13:50
Agent Palmer
Sure. But I don’t know that people.
00:12:13:55 – 00:12:19:26
Stefanie Stershic
Who I don’t think people really, I think, can tell just how forward thinking you are.
00:12:19:28 – 00:12:29:13
Agent Palmer
I mean, it comes up in the show. I tell people like, oh, you know, this episode we’re recording this months before it’ll go out. I’m drafted months ahead at at least as a recording.
00:12:29:18 – 00:12:51:29
Stefanie Stershic
That’s like like trying to be get a little bit of a head of things, have a buffer and stuff like that. But I think, where I noticed it was whenever you would go, I think shortly after you, were laid off. So like, right before the pandemic and during it when you were, like, networking and things, when people would kind of like ask you about things, you were always kind of like thinking ahead was like, well, if you do this and do that, and they just didn’t get it.
00:12:51:31 – 00:12:58:57
Stefanie Stershic
Like, they didn’t understand, like, why would we need to worry about that now? You’re like, you’ll need to learn. You need to know about it and worry about it now.
00:12:59:00 – 00:12:59:28
Agent Palmer
I mean.
00:12:59:33 – 00:13:00:19
Stefanie Stershic
It be important.
00:13:00:19 – 00:13:16:56
Agent Palmer
I don’t and I don’t know how. I don’t know what my track record is on some of that stuff, but I know I’m pretty good with with other pieces of it. I know when I was working, working and I would see problems down the road, a lot of the times we either avoided them or they happened exactly as I predicted, said.
00:13:17:01 – 00:13:44:40
Agent Palmer
Yeah. And I think part of it is maybe pattern recognition or something where it’s just like, okay, other people can’t see it. And whether it’s for myself or like in a corporate setting and everybody has their own different speed. But the way I see patterns, the way I see things, I don’t always have the 15, 20, 30 hour.
00:13:44:45 – 00:14:04:48
Agent Palmer
Whatever it is to explain to you how I got from A to Z when you’re just like, but this is A and B, right? No, no, I’m well past B, I’m at least in J or K or L or something like that if not to Z. And so a lot of the times I think I lose people on that.
00:14:04:53 – 00:14:08:17
Agent Palmer
But I’m I’m okay. And I, I’ve gotten okay with it and I, I think.
00:14:08:17 – 00:14:14:05
Stefanie Stershic
That well and I think a lot of people right now, they’re always, they’re very much focused on the now and less about the then.
00:14:14:14 – 00:14:35:01
Agent Palmer
I think. And I think one of the reasons for the consistency and you need the workaholism in order to get the stuff done. Because you can do all the planning you want. You still have to actually do the work. But I, I, I think, yeah, it’s that planning that, strategizing that figure. And it’s like nothing’s set in stone.
00:14:35:01 – 00:14:44:53
Agent Palmer
I move stuff around all the time. But, yeah, I think that’s the one for me, man. I’d love to say writer, but I still think I need. I have so much work to do.
00:14:44:56 – 00:14:52:26
Stefanie Stershic
That’s almost like I don’t see those as a characteristic so much as, like a, a vocation kind of thing.
00:14:52:31 – 00:14:58:31
Agent Palmer
I mean, creator, like, I mean, I’d love to be a creator. I just feel like I’m more of a that.
00:14:58:36 – 00:15:07:13
Stefanie Stershic
Still not I wouldn’t still consider that more characteristic characters that I think still is like things that like drive you or or that make you who you are kind of thing rather than what you do.
00:15:07:18 – 00:15:10:06
Agent Palmer
All right. And and and for yourself.
00:15:10:11 – 00:15:23:08
Stefanie Stershic
I and I don’t know if it’s necessarily a good thing, but I would probably say my empathy I’ve. I find myself to be a very empathetic person.
00:15:23:13 – 00:15:24:46
Agent Palmer
I think you care too much.
00:15:24:48 – 00:15:33:36
Stefanie Stershic
Well, and that’s the thing. Well, that’s the thing. It’s empathy. But then I it sometimes goes too far in the direction of where. Yeah, I’m probably two empathetic or two care.
00:15:33:47 – 00:15:48:18
Agent Palmer
Well that’s that’s well that was going to be my question is is caring too much empathy. Like is it because I don’t know that I’m not going I mean, I’m not pulling out my Funk and Wagnalls. I could, but I’m not going to. But like, it feels like there’s a line somewhere.
00:15:48:21 – 00:16:08:22
Stefanie Stershic
There is a there I. Yes. And and so it’s like having empathy and being empathetic is good. Caring too much at a certain point turns not good. Yeah. And that’s where I, I like and I guess it’s good that I realize that that that’s part of it. Like I’m empathetic, but then sometimes I’m too empathetic and, I do sometimes care too much.
00:16:08:22 – 00:16:29:28
Stefanie Stershic
Especially like when it comes to, like, work and and things. But it’s like, that’s that’s how I am. But I also feel like I, I think it’s good to have that empathy because I can relate to a lot of people. I find that it kind of fits with, you know, my, my overall personality of just being kind and caring and that sort of thing.
00:16:29:33 – 00:16:30:47
Stefanie Stershic
Okay, that’s what I would go for me.
00:16:30:54 – 00:16:40:15
Agent Palmer
All right. Do you think we you think we nailed that? You think you think I did? Do you think I. I had the right answer. If you were going to answer for me.
00:16:40:20 – 00:16:46:22
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah, I would, I would say so. Yeah. I don’t think there’s necessarily a right answer with, with a lot of these.
00:16:46:24 – 00:16:50:02
Agent Palmer
Well, I think the right answer for now. I mean, I think that you.
00:16:50:05 – 00:16:50:31
Stefanie Stershic
And that’s why.
00:16:50:34 – 00:16:55:02
Agent Palmer
And if you and I had recorded this episode like three years ago, I think.
00:16:55:09 – 00:16:57:43
Stefanie Stershic
It would probably be different potentially.
00:16:57:45 – 00:17:16:08
Agent Palmer
I mean, my answer probably be the same. I don’t know, like, I guess you’d have to go to before I got fired. Yeah. When I was still employed, I would be curious as to what my answer is. Obviously there’s no time machine. I wouldn’t be able to, but I think you would probably be in the same. If not, if it wouldn’t have been empathy or caring.
00:17:16:11 – 00:17:23:41
Agent Palmer
Like if it feels like it would have been on the same in the same ballpark, in the same neighborhood. Yeah. I have no idea what mine would have been without.
00:17:23:44 – 00:17:33:55
Stefanie Stershic
I also think if we were to record this in the future, it could also change as well. If you get a full time job again, if anything shifts, you know, I, I think it.
00:17:33:55 – 00:17:35:48
Agent Palmer
Could mean that’s that’s kind of true.
00:17:35:57 – 00:17:40:35
Stefanie Stershic
And that’s why I say it’s like there’s not a right or wrong answer with these. It’s kind of what you feel in.
00:17:40:35 – 00:17:43:50
Agent Palmer
In with a lot of these questions. Well, so some of.
00:17:43:50 – 00:17:45:04
Stefanie Stershic
Them are very much like.
00:17:45:06 – 00:18:08:19
Agent Palmer
Well some of its age to some of these, like you have to go back to your 20s before like or whatever. That solidifying of you growing up is, is when the answer changes. So you have to figure out, like, do I got to go back to like 16 year old me to get a different answer? Because I feel like some of these questions for the whole questionnaire, like from maybe 18 on, I’m giving you the same.
00:18:08:29 – 00:18:12:34
Agent Palmer
Yeah, answer more or less. That’s fair. All right. What what what have we got next?
00:18:12:41 – 00:18:15:12
Stefanie Stershic
What you appreciate the most in your friends.
00:18:15:21 – 00:18:52:29
Agent Palmer
So I so I mean it feels like very similar to the, to the, the the favorite man. Yeah. Thing. But in my friend specifically, a lot of the stuff is if we’re going to go away from, you know, generalizations specifically in my friends, most of my friends have a sense of humor. Most of my friends are, you know, willing to, indulge my, I don’t know, flights of fancy.
00:18:52:31 – 00:19:17:10
Agent Palmer
Like, I have a crazy idea for a graphic or, Hey, we should do this thing. Like, I think that, the only thing keeping my group of friends from being, like, I don’t know, one of the comedy troops we know on the internet is there aren’t enough actors. There aren’t enough theater kids in our group. Right? Like, I think that’s the only thing like, I think we have the technical know how and the writing skill.
00:19:17:15 – 00:19:18:20
Agent Palmer
Not all of us are.
00:19:18:22 – 00:19:19:39
Stefanie Stershic
Not not the acting chops.
00:19:19:39 – 00:19:23:01
Agent Palmer
In front of camera people. Right.
00:19:23:05 – 00:19:24:51
Stefanie Stershic
We’re all behind camera people.
00:19:24:53 – 00:19:52:44
Agent Palmer
Yeah, well, a lot of. Yeah, I mean, my circle is very behind camera, behind the scenes ask are so I, I think, there’s an indulging in the passion projects, as it were. And that goes in all directions. That’s not just them for me. It’s me for them as well. So that’s one I think the other thing is the sense of humor, because you need that to be friends for this long.
00:19:52:49 – 00:20:17:45
Agent Palmer
I, I know you have friends for decades as well. But I think, like you, you got to meet my brothers, right? Like, we’re I mean, most of my friends, with the exception of those newer friends that I’ve met through podcasting, we’re we’re going on at minimum two decades now, some three, which feels like weird because I don’t even feel that old.
00:20:17:50 – 00:20:19:07
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah.
00:20:19:12 – 00:20:52:19
Agent Palmer
But you need that kind of humor. Like, you can be serious. Maybe that’s the last part. It’s like we can go from serious to joking and joking to serious whenever we need to. So, like, if I’m having a serious discussion about life or anything else with any of them, we can turn on a dime. Just do a quote from a movie or a line from a song, and just bump right out of it and not have to go down that like, oh, well, I guess we’re just going to go on the dark path now.
00:20:52:24 – 00:21:08:16
Agent Palmer
So like, no, we can, you know, it’s it’s a quick turn, a, you know, quick joke, quick reference and we’re moving on to other things. And then, I mean, maybe that’s the other thing. Not everybody and you know this. Not everybody can keep up.
00:21:08:23 – 00:21:09:37
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah.
00:21:09:42 – 00:21:32:19
Agent Palmer
A lot of my friends talk as much as I do. And we’re all willing to interrupt each other and talk over each other and I, I enjoy that. I know not all of them enjoy that, but they’re willing to go along. Yeah. And so I think that all of those things kind of together, all communication based really.
00:21:32:24 – 00:21:54:51
Agent Palmer
Yeah, I mean, that’s, that’s that’s where I think I’m at. And you’ve got you because of the way you came in to the circle, so to speak, by like I introduced like your first visit out, I introduce you to Chris and to Potter. Yeah. And you already knew Bill and Chris at that time, but that was internet stuff, right?
00:21:54:54 – 00:22:02:41
Agent Palmer
Like. And so, like, you got I mean, neither of them were nice about me, and I feel.
00:22:02:41 – 00:22:09:24
Stefanie Stershic
Like I think they both, in their own separate way or trying to, like, convince me that, like, I was like.
00:22:09:24 – 00:22:10:00
Agent Palmer
Which, by the.
00:22:10:00 – 00:22:16:21
Stefanie Stershic
Way, what is he like? What is he doing? Like, are you okay? Do we need to get help? But what what what? Him? Why?
00:22:16:24 – 00:22:26:02
Agent Palmer
And that’s the same thing you got from, like, my uncles. Yeah, and like some family members. So it’s all kind of in that. Yeah. That realm, tongue in cheek or whatever.
00:22:26:02 – 00:22:29:16
Stefanie Stershic
So that’s again, very much humor, a lot of humor based.
00:22:29:18 – 00:22:57:09
Agent Palmer
So what about you? Because I know your friendships have been not quite as necessarily physically close. Yeah. As all of mine are. Yours have been a little bit more. Yeah. Actually your long our long distance start was not uncommon for you know, it was based on your friendship. So mine are all communication based. But we also all were physically in the same space a lot of the time you didn’t have that.
00:22:57:09 – 00:22:59:00
Agent Palmer
So is it different?
00:22:59:04 – 00:23:24:05
Stefanie Stershic
I wouldn’t say so necessarily. Aside from the obviously, you know, being able to, to, to hang out, although like because of the internet, I think it was still possible to be able to hang out like con my, longest running friend. We’ve been friends since I was 11, 12, and she’s a little bit younger than me, like a almost a year, year and a half.
00:23:24:10 – 00:23:51:08
Stefanie Stershic
We started we we met in a Neopets RPG forum where it was basically just it was a forum where you could go in there and, like, you could just pretend to role play and do things, and like, we met up and then we’re like, hey, this is really fun. Do you have AOL? Yes. We started to instant message each other and just were like, well, why just do this on Neopets?
00:23:51:08 – 00:24:23:45
Stefanie Stershic
Like, why don’t we just chat and and role play all the time? And we so we started just like, chatting and writing stories with each other and had never really met. But we talked, we messaged, and then eventually, once we got phones. We would call each other, we’d text each other and that’s, you know, kept going. And then, gosh, I think it wasn’t until like, well, after high school, I think that we finally met in person, but it felt like we’d, you know, met all the time like that.
00:24:23:45 – 00:24:26:33
Stefanie Stershic
We’d hung out consistently over the years when we didn’t.
00:24:26:40 – 00:24:35:18
Agent Palmer
So is that color your answer differently? Because obviously you also had physical friends in school and around and.
00:24:35:18 – 00:24:54:55
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. Yeah. I don’t think so. I mean, I was also going to kind of go with humor as well because I like it. It’s something that I just it is a big quality in, in friends, like if, if friends, if you can laugh with your friends, but also your friends can make you laugh, that’s going to endear that person.
00:24:54:57 – 00:25:11:46
Agent Palmer
To any specific. And I, I want to preface your answer by saying that of all my friends, I am the least funny. But I do know when to pull a line. Yeah, right. Like so for.
00:25:11:56 – 00:25:14:23
Stefanie Stershic
You say you’re the least funny. But you make me laugh all the time.
00:25:14:25 – 00:25:33:41
Agent Palmer
Yeah, but that’s timing, and it’s truly timing. It’s not that I’m actually funny. I’m in a vacuum. Very little I say is like, laugh, laugh. Ha ha. But most of the situations in which I say my one line are like, I, I pick my spots.
00:25:33:50 – 00:25:34:45
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah.
00:25:34:50 – 00:25:37:33
Agent Palmer
I’m also willing to be the butt of the joke.
00:25:37:38 – 00:25:43:57
Stefanie Stershic
Which is a big part of of humor is being able to, have yourself be the one that’s,
00:25:44:10 – 00:25:47:18
Agent Palmer
I don’t think a lot of people. Understand that.
00:25:47:21 – 00:26:18:55
Stefanie Stershic
No, but the comedians do. They they they make jokes about themselves all the time. That’s their whole shtick. But, yeah, no, like I. Humor. Humor has always been a, a big thing for me is, is having someone with like, my age humor, but also like, being made to laugh is like, you know, such a big deal. Like, you immediately feel like if you’re feeling blue, like someone makes you laugh and immediately it’s like, oh, stuff still kind of sucks.
00:26:18:55 – 00:26:42:03
Stefanie Stershic
But like, I’m feeling so much better now and I feel like that’s something that I really appreciate. And friends in a partner is like, you know, whatever. And and just people I and I think that’s why also like I, I, I have a I think not just myself but like I think others like your family, your friends like immediately accepted me because like, I also feel like I’ve always had like a good sense of humor, but able to understand humor.
00:26:42:16 – 00:26:54:36
Stefanie Stershic
Thought I was, you know, at least mildly funny myself. And so I think it’s just I, I fit in, like, immediately and I think, like, and we joke about it. It’s like your parents like me more than they like you and your friends like like me.
00:26:54:36 – 00:26:56:50
Stefanie Stershic
More than they like you. They do. So.
00:26:56:57 – 00:27:17:58
Stefanie Stershic
But I think it’s also because, like, I, I feel like I could, like, pull a joke or whatever with Chris, with Zapata, with your mom, like, you know, anything. And it’s just like, it, it like we just sink. Well, like we mesh well. Yeah. And I think that’s that’s humor. Can humor can do that humor. Humor can can bond people very easily.
00:27:18:01 – 00:27:18:49
Agent Palmer
Very quickly.
00:27:18:51 – 00:27:19:10
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah.
00:27:19:13 – 00:27:24:41
Agent Palmer
That to. All right. So what what have we got for number four.
00:27:24:46 – 00:27:27:17
Stefanie Stershic
The flower that you like.
00:27:27:22 – 00:27:34:09
Agent Palmer
I don’t know. So I, I’m aware that this question exists. I am aware that it is.
00:27:34:14 – 00:27:35:02
Stefanie Stershic
And why nobody.
00:27:35:02 – 00:27:35:29
Stefanie Stershic
Picked it.
00:27:35:31 – 00:27:45:09
Agent Palmer
Well, it can be related to the color question that when Chris was on for that episode, but I don’t know.
00:27:45:14 – 00:27:46:16
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. See I think.
00:27:46:30 – 00:27:47:56
Agent Palmer
You know I know it’s different, but I’m.
00:27:48:01 – 00:27:49:23
Stefanie Stershic
It’s very different because you can like a.
00:27:49:23 – 00:27:51:18
Stefanie Stershic
Flower for not the color at all.
00:27:51:20 – 00:27:56:35
Agent Palmer
But I, I don’t know that I have a favorite flower. Like, I just.
00:27:56:42 – 00:27:59:01
Stefanie Stershic
I don’t have to be a favorite because it’s a flower that you.
00:27:59:01 – 00:28:30:56
Agent Palmer
Like, but I, I have no idea. Genuinely. Like I have to. So this is where like my in the last in my lifetime, the most time I’ve spent with flowers is in Minecraft. Like it’s not even like. And that’s because I, I outside of uses in Minecraft, I don’t have like when I garden, it’s for vegetables. I’m not a I’m not a flower garden.
00:28:30:59 – 00:28:51:41
Agent Palmer
Yeah. I, I’m not you know, so I don’t really have one. I mean, when I get, so I, I occasionally, maybe more often than not, but not every year when I get flowers for my mom on my birthday.
00:28:51:43 – 00:28:52:50
Stefanie Stershic
00:28:52:55 – 00:29:13:49
Agent Palmer
I was getting her like roses or because it’s springtime, I can get her a spring bouquet. Yeah. But like I just kind of look for like what looks nice. Looks nice. I’m not. I couldn’t even tell you if my, if my mother has a favorite flower I don’t know where of it. Right. Like, and it’s, it’s more ignorance.
00:29:13:56 – 00:29:34:29
Agent Palmer
It could also be memory. It’s possible. She told me once. Yeah, but I don’t remember, so I don’t know that I have one. And because I’m not a gardener, when I am again, vegetables only I, I don’t know that I would I, you know, I just it if it wasn’t on this list, I wouldn’t even be talking about it.
00:29:34:29 – 00:29:52:44
Agent Palmer
Like, I just don’t have a thing. And even though, you know, on the episode with Chris, I talked about my favorite color being orange, kind of. Yeah, that was asterisk in itself. I don’t even think like just an orange flower would be enough for me to be like, that’s my favorite. So I.
00:29:52:44 – 00:29:55:09
Stefanie Stershic
Don’t even think of an orange flower.
00:29:55:14 – 00:30:00:32
Agent Palmer
I so I don’t, I don’t know, I don’t know that I honestly, I don’t know that I have one.
00:30:00:41 – 00:30:14:43
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. Do you do, I do and and and before I answer it’s maybe this will help. Like is there. Do you have a flower that sparks a certain memory or something? No, nothing. Okay.
00:30:14:45 – 00:30:22:26
Agent Palmer
Nothing like because you got to remember. Right. So because I’m not a horticulturalist in any capacity whatsoever.
00:30:22:33 – 00:30:22:57
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah.
00:30:23:09 – 00:30:48:07
Agent Palmer
Provided that’s the term I’m supposed to use. My only real outside of buying those flowers for mom has been the the standard within relationships. I think I’ve done it for you once or twice, and I’m I’m not really a big flower guy either, because, hey, here, take care of this. It’s going to die in a week. I love you.
00:30:48:12 – 00:30:57:42
Agent Palmer
It’s always mainly been roses, because that’s the quintessential thing. And I’m trying to think back to, like, prom and, like, whatever the near was. Yeah, but I couldn’t tell. I know it wasn’t a.
00:30:57:48 – 00:30:59:00
Stefanie Stershic
A corsage.
00:30:59:04 – 00:31:02:47
Agent Palmer
Yeah, I mean, but, well, I guess the boot was what I.
00:31:02:56 – 00:31:04:04
Stefanie Stershic
Was.
00:31:04:09 – 00:31:04:52
Agent Palmer
But I couldn’t.
00:31:04:52 – 00:31:05:45
Stefanie Stershic
More corsage.
00:31:05:47 – 00:31:20:17
Agent Palmer
Yeah, it was a plant. You put it around your wrist, I put it on my tux. Like, I don’t know that I could even tell you, like, what was what? What made it. Yeah. Or even. I don’t even remember if I picked it out. If I’m like it just. Or if somebody else did.
00:31:20:17 – 00:31:20:49
Stefanie Stershic
Or.
00:31:20:53 – 00:31:32:48
Agent Palmer
My date did or. I know there is nothing there. Yeah. At all. Like, it’s a blank slate. I just, I just don’t have.
00:31:32:48 – 00:31:48:37
Stefanie Stershic
One that’s fair. So mine is very much a flower that sparks a memory because I also I’m not a big flower person. Like, I don’t need to be gifted flowers. I’m not crazy about roses, that sort of thing. Like, most of the time they make me sneeze.
00:31:48:42 – 00:31:49:01
Agent Palmer
Well.
00:31:49:01 – 00:31:50:28
Stefanie Stershic
The first flower.
00:31:50:32 – 00:31:52:08
Agent Palmer
First flower I ever gave you.
00:31:52:23 – 00:31:55:35
Stefanie Stershic
Was it was an eight bit Mario. Like.
00:31:55:40 – 00:31:58:56
Agent Palmer
No, no, it wasn’t Mario. It was an eight bit flower.
00:31:59:06 – 00:32:00:53
Stefanie Stershic
It was. It was the Mario fire flower.
00:32:01:01 – 00:32:01:51
Agent Palmer
Not a Mario.
00:32:01:53 – 00:32:02:08
Stefanie Stershic
Thought it.
00:32:02:08 – 00:32:04:29
Agent Palmer
Was a not Mario. Okay. But it’s just.
00:32:04:32 – 00:32:04:44
Stefanie Stershic
It was.
00:32:04:46 – 00:32:11:53
Agent Palmer
Eight. Bit flower from former thinking. Yes. Yeah. And
00:32:11:58 – 00:32:13:07
Stefanie Stershic
Made of plastic and foam.
00:32:13:07 – 00:32:14:53
Agent Palmer
And and you still have it I.
00:32:14:57 – 00:32:20:16
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. For the most part like some pieces of it have broken like the it it came with like a little stand.
00:32:20:28 – 00:32:21:44
Agent Palmer
The base of the.
00:32:21:49 – 00:32:24:16
Stefanie Stershic
The that’s gone but the flower itself and like the.
00:32:24:18 – 00:32:30:06
Agent Palmer
So can I say that flower. I don’t know if that’s a real flower like that. Doesn’t care. Eight bit flowers. Final answer.
00:32:30:11 – 00:32:32:37
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. I mean you could say the flower from Mario.
00:32:32:42 – 00:32:34:56
Agent Palmer
But it’s not. But yeah, I know it’s not.
00:32:34:59 – 00:32:48:17
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. So I’m also not a big like I know your, your parents on, on on a, on our child’s birthday also bought me flowers because that’s the thing that you guys do in your family.
00:32:48:19 – 00:32:51:31
Agent Palmer
Well, that was supposed to be on behalf of the child. On the child?
00:32:51:36 – 00:33:07:37
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah, yeah, because that’s what you guys did. And so, like. And I know you’ve bought me, you know, some real flowers. We, we got flowers at our wedding as a gift. And it’s so like when other people buy them for me, it’s nice. Like, I appreciate it. I, you know, say thank you. And they stay alive for a short while and then I throw them out.
00:33:07:42 – 00:33:34:45
Stefanie Stershic
So for me, a flower that I like is an idol of ice and an idol of ice, specifically because it’s tied to memories like a big one is, of course, the song from Sound of Music. I’m sure a lot of you know everybody. Maybe not everybody knows it, but I think a lot of people know it. But also, I spent a lot of time when I was younger in Austria with my grandparents, like we went several times to, to go and we did in the mountains of, of.
00:33:34:50 – 00:33:49:30
Stefanie Stershic
The hills and I didn’t I mean, technically, yes, I did, actually. There was a time we went kind of like hiking and then and there was like, you know, a flowery field and everything. And I did pretend I was, you know, Maria and like, just singing in the Hills. Because.
00:33:49:35 – 00:33:52:11
Agent Palmer
From Nazis. Yeah. Yeah. No, I was.
00:33:52:11 – 00:34:08:41
Stefanie Stershic
Just, you know, the nice part where you’re just, you know, in the field of flowers and you’re just like, yay, happy. Happy. You’re just enjoying, you know, the the lovely hills of Austria, and the mountains. So that’s that’s a flower that I could say that I, I like and and it’s, you know, very distinctive flower.
00:34:08:43 – 00:34:22:47
Stefanie Stershic
Like, when you see it, you know, it’s, it’s, it’s, you know, white and, and a, a very sturdy, hearty flower because it, you know, blooms on the side of mountains. Yeah. So yeah. And I have to go with that one.
00:34:22:55 – 00:34:33:23
Agent Palmer
Okay, I got I yeah, let’s let’s move it along. I got nothing else. I, I literally talked about flowers more than I ever have outside of baking. Yeah. And that’s a different kind of flower.
00:34:33:25 – 00:34:43:20
Stefanie Stershic
That is a different kind of flower. And here’s another one for you where we’ll see how much you could talk about it. Your favorite bird oriole.
00:34:43:22 – 00:34:45:12
Agent Palmer
Yeah.
00:34:45:17 – 00:34:52:17
Stefanie Stershic
I mean, okay, obviously, aside from it being the mascot of your favorite baseball team.
00:34:52:22 – 00:34:52:43
Agent Palmer
Yeah.
00:34:52:43 – 00:34:53:10
Stefanie Stershic
00:34:53:24 – 00:34:53:53
Agent Palmer
It.
00:34:53:57 – 00:34:56:09
Stefanie Stershic
If it wasn’t for the baseball team.
00:34:56:24 – 00:34:57:04
Agent Palmer
Would you have.
00:34:57:09 – 00:34:57:48
Stefanie Stershic
You wouldn’t have one.
00:34:57:50 – 00:35:16:44
Agent Palmer
I don’t think I would have won. No, I don’t, I don’t. So even if we went from bird to like, aerial things because I don’t know about, like, eagles and falcons and how you. Are they birds or not? But I don’t even know that I like. I don’t even know that. Even if you gave me those options, I could pick one.
00:35:16:49 – 00:35:19:15
Agent Palmer
Right. Like I know.
00:35:19:20 – 00:35:21:58
Stefanie Stershic
And falcons are birds. What else would they be?
00:35:22:03 – 00:35:22:44
Agent Palmer
Okay. Fine.
00:35:22:46 – 00:35:23:29
Stefanie Stershic
Flying dinosaurs.
00:35:23:32 – 00:35:35:02
Agent Palmer
Fine. Well, you know, I, I can, I can I say velociraptor because, I mean, the the the the it’s it’s a, it’s a, it’s a birds great grandfather.
00:35:35:02 – 00:35:39:07
Stefanie Stershic
And they have since discovered that some of them did have feathers. Yes.
00:35:39:07 – 00:35:42:28
Agent Palmer
So Velociraptor I don’t know, like because you got like.
00:35:42:31 – 00:35:48:52
Stefanie Stershic
It’s still very much a reptile, though. Not a bird ancestor. Prehistoric ancestor of bird.
00:35:48:54 – 00:36:23:33
Agent Palmer
I mean favored because outside of that, right. Like the only thing I have to steal from your flowers. Yeah. And being a memory is I. I’d have to go to the the the great eagles of either one of two things. Right. Like either the great Eagles from Lord of the rings. Yep. Or specifically from The Hobbit. Yeah. Or the great Eagles that would or bald eagles that you would see, when Stringfellow Hawk wasn’t flying Airwolf, when he was at his cabin in the woods.
00:36:23:47 – 00:36:47:43
Agent Palmer
And with his cello, I believe it was a cello. He would serenade the eagles around the lake that he was out of the cabin. Because those are early memories of, like. But other than that, I don’t. And I’m now I’m stretching, like, I just I just don’t know. So I guess, I guess I’ll go with a Baltimore Oriole and remember, and you’re a fan now because of me.
00:36:47:43 – 00:36:54:24
Agent Palmer
But like, they and they’re still using mainly the cartoon bird. So you missed the anatomical bird era.
00:36:54:26 – 00:36:56:09
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah, I’ve seen it, though, because you have a hat.
00:36:56:19 – 00:37:04:38
Agent Palmer
I have a hat with it. And and the, the social media is bringing it back a little bit, which means I think they want to sell more hats. But.
00:37:04:50 – 00:37:12:23
Stefanie Stershic
And when, when you first were getting me into the Orioles and I found out it was bird, I googled it to be like, what is this bird? I was like, oh, it’s a little black and orange bird.
00:37:12:25 – 00:37:32:17
Agent Palmer
So I, I yeah, I mean, I, I guess I, I just, I still have to go back to the Baltimore Orioles but I. Or Baltimore Orioles. Yeah. And I guess, you know, it’s in that vein of, you know, say me, say me for color. You know that for that. But I don’t really.
00:37:32:22 – 00:37:34:14
Stefanie Stershic
I mean, it’s it’s a favorite bird.
00:37:34:19 – 00:37:43:54
Agent Palmer
I’m not afraid of birds. Like, I’m not one of those people, but I’m also not like, oh, let me, let me at the birds. No. Yeah. No, no no, that’s not let’s not do it.
00:37:43:54 – 00:37:44:52
Stefanie Stershic
All right. That’s fair.
00:37:45:06 – 00:37:46:30
Agent Palmer
And your favorite bird.
00:37:46:38 – 00:38:01:17
Stefanie Stershic
It’s a tie between a crow and a raven. But because they’re almost practically the same but I do. Yeah, they I, I love corvids, I love crows and ravens. They are a very intelligent bird. They will hold a grudge.
00:38:01:20 – 00:38:01:46
Agent Palmer
Yeah.
00:38:01:49 – 00:38:05:00
Stefanie Stershic
They will also love you if you treat them nicely. And like I.
00:38:05:00 – 00:38:16:26
Agent Palmer
Feel like you’re not in the animal kingdom. I don’t think you’ll find somebody who holds a grudge only and won’t also like something that’s nice to them. It feels like, if you will.
00:38:16:33 – 00:38:25:06
Stefanie Stershic
But no no no no no no no no. Ravens and crows are completely different. Like they will like hate you like. Yes.
00:38:25:06 – 00:38:30:11
Agent Palmer
There’s no. Remember the story about the guy with the hat for 14 years, is it.
00:38:30:11 – 00:38:36:51
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah yeah yeah yeah. And it’s, it’s kind of one of those things where like, yes, you’ll be mean to an animal. It will like not, you’ll be afraid of.
00:38:36:51 – 00:38:38:01
Agent Palmer
You and animals anyway.
00:38:38:03 – 00:38:48:33
Stefanie Stershic
Well, I know that, but I’m saying like in general when you’re, if someone were to be mean to an animal, at some point they will forget. Crows and ravens will not forget. Like there is a laser.
00:38:48:39 – 00:38:49:31
Agent Palmer
Will an elephant on.
00:38:49:31 – 00:39:10:40
Stefanie Stershic
The way? Oh, yes. But that is also. That’s also been proven. Elephants actually do not have terrible memories of. That was just a, you know, a thing. But yeah, no, like I, I absolutely have have a favorite burden that that’s, that’s crows and ravens and I think they’re just like also just really cool birds. And we have some around here and I’m very excited every time I see them.
00:39:10:44 – 00:39:22:44
Agent Palmer
We also have like Hawks. And so I’m always like we also have those. What kind of, prey hunter hunted thing. Am I going to see today? They’re always circling. Who knows?
00:39:22:46 – 00:39:44:28
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. Although it is funny, like, not long ago, I saw a small bird chase away a crow, and it was really funny, like that crow was high tailing it because there was this little birds that I’m assuming it was trying to get at the nest to get the eggs. And those little birds, like, just attacked that crow like no tomorrow.
00:39:44:28 – 00:39:59:15
Stefanie Stershic
And that crow was like, I’m out. Goodbye. These birds were like, half its size. Like even less of that, these tiny little birds. And I’m like, oh, wow. Okay. The crow was like, nope, not messing with that. Goodbye.
00:39:59:20 – 00:40:11:38
Agent Palmer
All right. So I think we’re definitely going to finish this, which is nice. Yeah. So the the final question in the entire questionnaire to, to really bring it home is what.
00:40:11:43 – 00:40:14:05
Stefanie Stershic
Your favorite poets.
00:40:14:09 – 00:40:55:55
Agent Palmer
So like, I was a big fan at one time of Byron. But I also haven’t read a lot of poetry, especially recently. So I mean, I was a fan of Byron. I don’t know that I still would be sure. I can say, with with certainty, I am still a fan of Zapata. And and it’s not because I edited his first book, and it’s not because as of recording, I’m still working on finalizing book two.
00:40:56:00 – 00:41:19:08
Agent Palmer
It’s because the reason there was a book one in the first place was because I liked his work enough that I saved all of it when he would send it out in early, like, you know, email blasts to a circle of us. Yeah. And I saved all that stuff, which was the basis for the first book, along with some newer stuff.
00:41:19:15 – 00:41:42:28
Agent Palmer
So I’ve been a fan of his for a very long time. So I can still say he’s still up there. As you know, I’m reading all the books in my house, as I’ve talked about a little bit on the show. And so there is an amount of, well, I’ve got at least one volume of Byron, Shelley and Keats all in one nice little book.
00:41:42:28 – 00:42:05:32
Agent Palmer
So I’m about to find maybe, maybe when I get there, I don’t know if it’ll be this year, next year or the fall. Who knows? Maybe I’ll maybe one of those. I mean, I will say, love Tolkien. Tolkien’s verse, when he does. I know there are a lot usually more songs than than poems, but like the.
00:42:05:46 – 00:42:39:04
Agent Palmer
Yeah. So, so I, I definitely would put Hulk in up there, but like true poet like. Yeah. And Zapata’s written other things. But he’s probably the only poet like that. I, you know, know that I’ve read in a while and I don’t know, again, it’s that kind of, and it’s funny that this has come up because I, I gave you more than half the poem in bed the other night, but, like, it came up like I still remember most of us.
00:42:39:18 – 00:43:02:40
Agent Palmer
Robert Frost, two roads diverged and, I but I don’t know that it would be just because I remember most of it. And I feel like if you gave me ten minutes without even showing it to me, I’d be able to put it together from muscle memory. I don’t I don’t know that I love it, I don’t know that it would be like, there.
00:43:02:45 – 00:43:26:08
Agent Palmer
Yeah. And so I, I think I have to go with Zapata just because he’s not just because he’s contemporary, but I’m familiar with his stuff in such a way. Whereas the other people, like, outside of she walked or she walked, I think outside of She Walks in Beauty, by Byron and Two Roads by Frost. I don’t know any other poems.
00:43:26:12 – 00:43:26:55
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah, right.
00:43:26:58 – 00:43:47:45
Agent Palmer
Like, I just can’t, I can’t, I can’t do it. I could name a lot of right now. I’m not going to, but like, And then one of the reasons I’m not going to is because I don’t know if I’m going to name stuff in the old book, or the newest titles may change. So I, I guess he’s got to be tops in the, in, in the leaderboard right now.
00:43:47:47 – 00:44:05:05
Agent Palmer
I don’t know, I have anything else. I’d love to. That’s fine. I’d love to have an ego and say me, but I haven’t written anything in verse in like 20 years, and I, I, I would like to dabble with it. And Potter gives me a hard time about it. I but I’m not. I’m just not there. It’s a muscle.
00:44:05:05 – 00:44:28:25
Agent Palmer
I haven’t really I haven’t given it enough effort. I don’t have a lot of time, but I also don’t have that inspiration to. I don’t write and I don’t write that way anymore. Yeah, maybe I will again, but not for now. So that’s probably it. I don’t know, do you? I mean, here’s a question. Before we even get to your favorite, like, did you read poetry?
00:44:28:28 – 00:44:32:47
Agent Palmer
I mean, I just listed a bunch of people that I have read, but, like, did you read poetry?
00:44:32:49 – 00:44:33:37
Stefanie Stershic
Not a lot. No.
00:44:33:49 – 00:44:34:18
Agent Palmer
Okay.
00:44:34:20 – 00:44:40:46
Stefanie Stershic
No. Other than, you know, what was always kind of like the assigned reading in in school, like when they signed, like, read these poems.
00:44:40:53 – 00:44:44:51
Agent Palmer
I mean, I took an actual poetry class, which is how I remembered some of that stuff.
00:44:44:53 – 00:45:09:06
Stefanie Stershic
Did not like I and I, it came up in some of the writing classes that I did take. Okay. Because I did take, a few writing classes. And part of the things were, you know, write a poem or write several poems or whatever, and, and so I, I did that until, like, I, I composed my own poetry in high school and submitted it to our, you know, our literary magazine that we had and, and got a few published.
00:45:09:06 – 00:45:19:58
Stefanie Stershic
But that was basically it. Like I didn’t really go out and find any other poetry. Didn’t I really haven’t read Byron, haven’t read a lot of Frost, except for, like I said, whatever.
00:45:20:13 – 00:45:21:03
Agent Palmer
We were required.
00:45:21:03 – 00:45:32:02
Stefanie Stershic
To read of, of like some of the big, big ones, I, I mean, I probably then have possibly read Byron because it, I would suspect it came up in in high school or college.
00:45:32:17 – 00:45:33:19
Agent Palmer
Maybe not.
00:45:33:24 – 00:45:36:36
Stefanie Stershic
Maybe not. Yeah. So yeah. But no, not a, not a big.
00:45:36:38 – 00:45:38:24
Agent Palmer
So do you have a favorite.
00:45:38:26 – 00:45:47:25
Stefanie Stershic
I do, I mean you would probably say it’s like, well, but I’m pretty sure he was thought of as a, as a poet as well, but, Edgar Allan Poe.
00:45:47:33 – 00:45:48:23
Agent Palmer
Yeah. I mean.
00:45:48:24 – 00:45:52:23
Stefanie Stershic
Because he. Yes, he wrote, you know, short stories and things, and it was famous for some of those.
00:45:52:25 – 00:45:52:35
Agent Palmer
But.
00:45:52:49 – 00:46:16:02
Stefanie Stershic
He also had his own poetry. So he was he was a poet and a writer. So, yeah, he, he is one that I, I mean, I’ve read all of his work and he’s probably the one that I’ve read all of his poetry. So it’s like that’s that’s kind of he was the first one I kind of really discovered and also went and sought out more of his, of his work and his stuff, read all his short stories where all of his poetry,
00:46:16:07 – 00:46:17:19
Agent Palmer
I mean, I, I know I.
00:46:17:21 – 00:46:18:21
Stefanie Stershic
Probably were my or.
00:46:18:21 – 00:46:18:28
Agent Palmer
My.
00:46:18:28 – 00:46:19:50
Stefanie Stershic
Love of ravens the crow started.
00:46:19:52 – 00:46:28:54
Agent Palmer
But I know I, I direct correlation. I, I should probably try Shakespeare again especially maybe the poetry but I’m.
00:46:29:09 – 00:46:36:25
Stefanie Stershic
All of his sonnets. That’s true. So I, I guess I could go but yeah that that’s another one where I don’t directly think of Shakespeare because of, you know.
00:46:36:27 – 00:46:36:42
Agent Palmer
All the.
00:46:36:49 – 00:46:49:04
Stefanie Stershic
All the other things, his plays and things. But it’s true is the, the sonnets are technically poetry. So I’ve read all of those. So yeah. Would probably then be Edgar Allan Poe and Shakespeare. Those are the only ones I’ve read, like the majority of their posts.
00:46:49:10 – 00:47:00:40
Agent Palmer
Doesn’t necessarily. I mean, but but that also means your sample size is so small that like, if you did read a lot of Byron or an amount of Keats or Shelley.
00:47:00:47 – 00:47:08:47
Stefanie Stershic
You definitely heard of all the other ones. Robert Frost, Byron like you, you hear about them. I just haven’t really like sought out their their stuff.
00:47:08:47 – 00:47:11:35
Agent Palmer
So yeah, I just yeah. Well, I mean.
00:47:11:37 – 00:47:15:54
Stefanie Stershic
Cause the poetry was never something that like was like, oh, poetry.
00:47:15:59 – 00:47:19:10
Agent Palmer
Well, you know, the, the circles you hang out in.
00:47:19:16 – 00:47:20:17
Stefanie Stershic
That, that. Yeah, I.
00:47:20:17 – 00:47:25:58
Agent Palmer
Was also very true and I, the pot and I were writing it now we were.
00:47:26:00 – 00:47:29:51
Stefanie Stershic
I think if I would have maybe hung out with more theater nerds.
00:47:29:58 – 00:47:40:04
Agent Palmer
We weren’t nerds, though. If you could have hung out with us, like in high school. Like if if all things being equal, I don’t know that you would have, but like, if you had.
00:47:40:07 – 00:47:48:33
Stefanie Stershic
But it seemed like the ones that were like doing a lot of, like the poetry and that sort of stuff were all the people that were also doing theater, at least in our school.
00:47:48:35 – 00:47:52:20
Agent Palmer
Okay. So that’s well, that okay. That’s a, that’s a small.
00:47:52:25 – 00:48:04:12
Stefanie Stershic
And so like I was in choir and so there was some overlap, but most of the people I was hanging out with were like art people, like they were artists. They were band like musicians.
00:48:04:15 – 00:48:18:14
Agent Palmer
I mean, I think one of the reasons that Potter and I kind of bonded over our writing in the first place was because we were both outcasts, more or less. I mean, I joke about being able to go in and out of any circle, but it also means I wasn’t in any circle.
00:48:18:14 – 00:48:29:59
Stefanie Stershic
And that was kind of my group of friends. Like, we, we, we overlapped with certain circles, but like our own circle was the fact that we just really didn’t have a circle. Like we kind of gravitated towards each other because we didn’t fit anywhere else.
00:48:30:04 – 00:48:46:39
Agent Palmer
And I, outside of sharing it with each other, the stuff we were not working on, we would share with the greater circle. Right. So obviously that’s so when I talk about some Hadas work in the email, it’s all the other people on that email thread.
00:48:46:51 – 00:48:47:19
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah.
00:48:47:22 – 00:49:07:21
Agent Palmer
Or that he sent it to that you, you would have been at least seen more stuff written by I guess cohorts or something. I mean, that’s the, that’s the thing. So I don’t know. This I mean, this ends the, the proofs questionnaire. I I’m I’m done.
00:49:07:25 – 00:49:07:42
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah.
00:49:07:45 – 00:49:28:00
Agent Palmer
You did. I, I do like the format. It forces some things wouldn’t normally talk about, but I, I’m not I’m, I, I wasn’t looking for this when it came to me. Yeah. So I’m going to treat whatever comes next. The same way I’m not going to look for it, but if I see it. Let’s go.
00:49:28:05 – 00:49:37:02
Stefanie Stershic
Sounds good.
00:49:37:07 – 00:50:02:29
Agent Palmer
And thus finally ends the Proust Questionnaire episodes with my four friends who were also part of the friendship episodes, and my best friend and wife, Stefanie. So here’s the thing. At the end of part four of this series, I concluded that these questions can be interesting, especially for people you have known for a long time. Not just because you may not know the answer, but because it starts a conversation you probably never had with them.
00:50:02:41 – 00:50:27:06
Agent Palmer
And that goes for spouses and partners to, as you heard, it’s not like we knew each other’s answers. And we talked out a lot of stuff in our early long distance courting since 2000. Plus miles makes the phone and talking on it a large portion of our early relationship. And even with that, we didn’t cover the questions asked in this episode or many of the others from the rest of the episodes.
00:50:27:11 – 00:50:48:12
Agent Palmer
So go to the show notes, click the link to the questionnaires history, and then use them to talk to the people closest to you. It’ll be fun, as have all five of these episodes. It took me to complete the questionnaire myself. Thanks for listening to The Palmer Files episode 186. And now for the official business. The Palmer Files releases every two weeks on Tuesdays.
00:50:48:12 – 00:51:48:16
Agent Palmer

00:51:48:21 – 00:51:58:46
Agent Palmer
So I asked this to everybody else that was on the questionnaire episodes prior, but this was a game. These questions was a were a game.
00:51:58:49 – 00:51:59:49
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. Like a party.
00:51:59:54 – 00:52:01:03
Agent Palmer
Thing a party thing.
00:52:01:05 – 00:52:02:34
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah.
00:52:02:39 – 00:52:09:07
Agent Palmer
You and I, on almost a monthly basis, host a little dinner.
00:52:09:17 – 00:52:11:26
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah, like a little dinner party.
00:52:11:31 – 00:52:18:09
Agent Palmer
Can you ever imagine us pulling these questions out at at at such. And should we.
00:52:18:14 – 00:52:28:57
Stefanie Stershic
With two couples in in particular. Yes, we absolutely should. And I think it would be very interesting. And I think you can guess who those two couples would be. We won’t, we won’t, we won’t.
00:52:29:01 – 00:52:34:18
Agent Palmer
But outside of. But you’re not pulling this like just all the time.
00:52:34:30 – 00:52:56:38
Stefanie Stershic
No no no no I think it would be. It would be with people whose, opinions are very much not not necessarily even just very much like your own, but who you would be interested in hearing their thoughts on a specific subject or some of these questions to see, like, are they going to answer it similarly, like how how I would or maybe they have a completely different take, which kind of it.
00:52:56:40 – 00:52:56:57
Agent Palmer
Helps.
00:52:56:57 – 00:53:02:04
Stefanie Stershic
You know, like this whole other view of this person that you already know and already like and enjoyed their company, but then like.
00:53:02:07 – 00:53:03:19
Agent Palmer
And you’re not even talking about.
00:53:03:21 – 00:53:04:45
Stefanie Stershic
Whole other, you know.
00:53:04:50 – 00:53:17:44
Agent Palmer
I mean, and I’m ignoring like the hard stuff, I’m ignoring virtue and qualities and characteristics and that kind of stuff. I think just favorite color is.
00:53:17:46 – 00:53:18:46
Stefanie Stershic
Color flower.
00:53:19:01 – 00:53:20:29
Agent Palmer
Bird.
00:53:20:34 – 00:53:22:08
Stefanie Stershic
Because you’re like, you know.
00:53:22:13 – 00:53:25:27
Agent Palmer
Yeah, it’s definitely a challenge. Yeah I okay.
00:53:25:29 – 00:53:29:48
Stefanie Stershic
And then you throw in a few of the harder ones to just kind of really just see like, you know.
00:53:29:58 – 00:53:51:23
Agent Palmer
I mean, I mean, I think I’m just going to start asking painters and composers to everyone because, I mean, can you even like, I, I mean, I know I remember how I answered mine. Yeah. But I’m just saying, like a lot of people would just be like, I don’t know if I can name a painter that’s not like a famous one hanging in the Louvre or whatever, like, or composer, I mean.
00:53:51:32 – 00:54:06:03
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah, but there’s nothing wrong with, like, if that’s like your favorite composer, that’s your favorite composer. Like, I can name one of each. My favorite composer and my favorite, painter. My favorite composer. Mozart. It actually would almost be kind of.
00:54:06:05 – 00:54:11:41
Agent Palmer
Like, is it more than John Williams? More than John Williams, more than John Williams? Yeah, I.
00:54:11:50 – 00:54:29:54
Stefanie Stershic
Mozart and Beethoven were the ones that I came to first. Like the, the actual like the classical composers. And it’s not until much later that, that John Williams so like. Yeah. Like it’s and then of course, artist or painter would be Van Gogh.
00:54:29:59 – 00:54:51:53
Agent Palmer
All right. Well I, I’m, I’m, I would be interested in those other I, I could see us pulling this out. Yeah. It’s all I’m saying. And having done all of them and knowing how awkward it is when you don’t have an answer, which, by the way, I’m, I’m not it’s not like a shame thing, but like, it does feel like.
00:54:51:58 – 00:54:55:55
Agent Palmer
If given enough time, I might be able to come up with an actual answer.
00:54:55:55 – 00:54:58:28
Stefanie Stershic
For not the point of it either. It’s like.
00:54:58:31 – 00:54:58:57
Agent Palmer
What you.
00:54:58:57 – 00:55:05:02
Stefanie Stershic
Get off, it’s what you get off the top of your head and, and and that’s part of the fun of it as well. It’s just like, if you can’t think of anything, that’s fine.
00:55:05:04 – 00:55:16:13
Agent Palmer
Like, I mean, if you get if a, if a, if a, if a, if a Robin shits on your head, it’s not going to make sure you’re going to have a bird you hate and maybe not one you like, right, but at least a story.
00:55:16:15 – 00:55:22:08
Stefanie Stershic
But then you could talk about that instead. Yeah, that’s the thing to think it, it just it it prompts just discussion.
00:55:22:13 – 00:55:29:34
Agent Palmer
Most of the couples you’re thinking about, we have very rarely ever had a quiet moment. Well so.
00:55:29:43 – 00:55:30:07
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah.
00:55:30:10 – 00:55:43:02
Agent Palmer
Shocker to everyone listening I know, but I’m not always the one talking. You know, it’s dinner I get to eat too. Anyway. Do you have a final question for me?
00:55:43:04 – 00:56:07:48
Stefanie Stershic
Having done all of the questions now, is there one where the answer you gave surprised you, like you weren’t expecting it to lead to that kind of topic. And if it didn’t, then at least maybe something like, was there a question that just kind of overall surprised you as to the outcome of of what happened?
00:56:07:51 – 00:56:36:30
Agent Palmer
So, I mean, it’s a little not fair because, not that I didn’t think of you, but you were the default for I think I’ll finish the questionnaire with Steph. But I was but I, I waited so long I mean I’m, I’m, I’m now looking at the list going like all right. So I recorded with Chris Meyer like a year ago maybe, maybe longer.
00:56:36:35 – 00:56:40:08
Agent Palmer
It was a post parenthood but not by much.
00:56:40:08 – 00:56:40:29
Stefanie Stershic
Much.
00:56:40:41 – 00:57:16:01
Agent Palmer
Yeah. And that was maybe the first recording after we became parents. So, like, well, it has only been a year. It’s been a year since those have been recorded. Yeah. And I did them all in a group and then spread them out. So I don’t remember my answers to some of these. So that’s, it’s I don’t know that I can actually answer your question with the exception of this, I do know that I kind of want an answer to, to these questions.
00:57:16:06 – 00:57:40:26
Agent Palmer
Not I don’t know why but like it, there’s, there’s something that feels incomplete by being like yeah. No I, I don’t know that Zapata will come down off my poet Mount Rushmore, but the fact that I don’t really have a two, three and a four to put up there with him makes me feel like I need to read some more.
00:57:40:31 – 00:57:47:16
Agent Palmer
Yeah. To at least figure out if there’s anybody else I like equally. And I think that.
00:57:47:21 – 00:57:51:37
Stefanie Stershic
No, if it’s if it’s too difficult to like, say like, well, what question surprised you but that.
00:57:51:49 – 00:57:52:16
Agent Palmer
No, because.
00:57:52:18 – 00:57:54:37
Stefanie Stershic
It did anything surprise you about this process?
00:57:54:39 – 00:58:07:55
Agent Palmer
Well, the big one is I don’t have any heroines I love, you know. Is it pot? And I, did the the heroines in fiction. And just really didn’t have.
00:58:08:07 – 00:58:09:29
Stefanie Stershic
A hard time coming up with something.
00:58:09:31 – 00:58:41:37
Agent Palmer
We had hard times with it and I, I feel like I’m on the spot now again and I can’t come up with any. I know they exist. Yeah, but I like what is it, what is it about the media I’m consuming? I’m still thinking of Fiona from the Bernard Samson verse of Len Deighton, who I said it, you know, may or may not be a heroine, depending on how you view her in the books.
00:58:41:41 – 00:59:06:57
Agent Palmer
She was one of my answers, I believe, or at least I talked about her. But that may be the most recent heroine I can think of that I would put up there. And the fact that I don’t have an answer like I. I want an answer like I, I think it’s a post to write is favorite heroines, but then I have to it’s still on the to write because I need to figure out who they are.
00:59:07:01 – 00:59:15:51
Agent Palmer
Yeah. So and a lot of the times, like, maybe I need to get better at broadening my media.
00:59:15:56 – 00:59:16:30
Stefanie Stershic
00:59:16:35 – 00:59:41:43
Agent Palmer
But a lot of the time there aren’t heroines, they are sidekicks, they are a acquaintances. They are part of the journey. But they aren’t the hero, they aren’t the main. And heroine to me suggests no, you’re the the lead. We watch stuff together all the time. I don’t really pay attention to who the lead is most of the time.
00:59:41:47 – 00:59:45:11
Agent Palmer
I think a lot of the time it’s, it’s a guy like just you know, so.
00:59:45:14 – 00:59:56:23
Stefanie Stershic
I mean and that is, is sadly the part that that’s, that’s that kind of obvious thing there is that yes, most big heroes are not female.
00:59:56:30 – 01:00:08:27
Agent Palmer
So I, I mean so I think if anything but that I virtue probably like a lot of them it’s.
01:00:08:31 – 01:00:31:52
Agent Palmer
I, I went into this process as unknowing as possible. I didn’t look at the questions ahead of time. I mean, I did, but then I put it away and I sent it off. Yeah. And then I glanced at it when I wrote down the ones that Chris did so I could give the list to Bill, and I glanced at it when I added bills so I could give it to Chris.
01:00:31:52 – 01:00:35:49
Agent Palmer
Right. But I didn’t really, like, sit down and go.
01:00:35:51 – 01:00:36:46
Stefanie Stershic
All right, and think about it.
01:00:36:46 – 01:01:00:09
Agent Palmer
What are the questions are. So I wanted to be in the moment. I think that was part of it. But it’s also like I do feel a little incomplete that like some of these have been very hard. Yeah. Patience as a virtue. I still can’t really name other virtues. Right. Like, I, you know, so it’s like, yes, that’s probably still would have been the one.
01:01:00:14 – 01:01:18:20
Agent Palmer
So it feels like this if nothing else has given me. All right. Well, there are some holes. There are some gaps in the knowledge. Yeah. It’s time to fill it in. I don’t know how. I’m not about to read a book just on virtues. That doesn’t necessarily seem.
01:01:18:22 – 01:01:32:53
Stefanie Stershic
No, but you could do you could do the research. And I think that’s part of what this type of game does, is it puts you on the, on the spot in the moment. You answer, but then you discuss it and you talk about it, and it can sometimes lead to like, well, maybe I do want to look.
01:01:32:53 – 01:01:34:31
Agent Palmer
At it, but you also need to go back to.
01:01:34:36 – 01:01:38:43
Stefanie Stershic
Find a book or an article or you, you know, you look into it more.
01:01:38:48 – 01:01:50:35
Agent Palmer
But Bill, when Bill did look into these questions. So when Bill asked me favorite occupation, he was thinking about what you might do, not necessarily what you are, what you have done. Yeah.
01:01:50:35 – 01:01:51:20
Stefanie Stershic
Right. Are doing.
01:01:51:20 – 01:02:04:53
Agent Palmer
Yeah. And so but that’s not the way I read it. Or, or the way he asked it originally based on the way he framed it after I answered it the first time. Yeah. And so I think there’s an amount of that as well.
01:02:04:56 – 01:02:22:28
Stefanie Stershic
Well even when we were doing this like there was one where it, I interpreted it in two different complete ways, like the, the what you appreciate most in your friends. There was another, more direct question, which is, I think it was what you appreciate.
01:02:22:31 – 01:02:22:59
Agent Palmer
About.
01:02:23:04 – 01:02:24:21
Stefanie Stershic
About them.
01:02:24:23 – 01:02:43:41
Agent Palmer
Well, know about it, but it changed it. Yeah. So on 1 in 1 side, it was because there’s, confession questions and confidence questions. And you were talking about the difference between what you appreciate most in your friends versus what I appreciate most about my friends.
01:02:43:53 – 01:02:49:55
Stefanie Stershic
And I was looking at it very much as, like, what you appreciate in your friends is like the qualities of your specific friend.
01:02:50:05 – 01:02:51:07
Agent Palmer
Whereas I.
01:02:51:07 – 01:03:03:38
Stefanie Stershic
Know, but the other one I was looking at was like, oh, about your group of friends? Like, why that group is your friend? So like, but that’s a, a point of of you can look at these different ways and get different interpretations about it.
01:03:03:40 – 01:03:09:30
Agent Palmer
So I don’t, I don’t, I don’t know other than there’s a lot I don’t know.
01:03:09:35 – 01:03:11:28
Stefanie Stershic
Which is fine. It’s fine to not know things.
01:03:11:28 – 01:03:13:16
Agent Palmer
I know it’s fine to not know things but there are.
01:03:13:18 – 01:03:13:54
Stefanie Stershic
And you can learn those.
01:03:13:54 – 01:03:41:09
Agent Palmer
Things but I, well I need to learn some of these things but I don’t know you know, I, I don’t know that I’m ever going to revisit this. I mean I, I hesitate to say this on Mike but I will if I was the, if I was producing this show as like just a behind the scenes person, I would put all of these questions in my back pocket and I’d feed them to a guest in like five years.
01:03:41:14 – 01:03:57:06
Agent Palmer
And I’d have a guest pepper the host with these questions. And like five years, ten years later, well down the road just to see if anything’s changed. But as I’m in control here, I’m not going to do that to myself.
01:03:57:08 – 01:04:00:15
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. One one and done.
01:04:00:20 – 01:04:10:10
Agent Palmer
Yeah. I mean, it was it was, you know, I look, it was a good exercise because I love the friendship episodes. Yeah.
01:04:10:14 – 01:04:13:24
Stefanie Stershic
And to kind of use those same people to do this kind of thing.
01:04:13:29 – 01:04:32:13
Agent Palmer
Was the closest I could come to. Because I haven’t come up with anything that’s close to the friendship episodes of four people. I can ask for the same questions to and get. I think the I think more or less they’re different people, but the friendships are very similar, and I think you got to see that in different ways.
01:04:32:25 – 01:04:39:03
Stefanie Stershic
Yeah. And this was a way to like expand on that, like kind of go go deeper into those into some of those friendships.
01:04:39:06 – 01:05:01:21
Agent Palmer
Yeah. But I, I and and when I talk about wanting to do the friendship series again, it’s not just have those four people back on again, it’s just have a series of work. Whatever. Yeah. Look, if you’re still listening. Let me know if you if you if you want to pitch a series. Let me know.
01:05:01:26 – 01:05:08:49
Agent Palmer
But that’s. Yeah, I don’t I don’t have anything else. I, I’m, I’m happy to literally just be done with it.
01:05:08:49 – 01:05:10:32
Stefanie Stershic
But the Proust questionnaire to bed.
01:05:10:35 – 01:05:13:18
Agent Palmer
Yeah. It can, it can it can go to sleep now.
01:05:13:23 – 01:05:14:08
Stefanie Stershic
Night night.
