A Life Full of Positive Achievements: Memoir! Celebrates Sid Meier

Sid Meiers Memoir by the creator of Civilization

Sid Meier’s Memoir! A Life in Computer Games is a collection of anecdotes from his life, his gameography, and his philosophies. In his games, he sought to put good into the world, and he has done the same with this book. He acknowledges that bad things have happened in his life, but he doesn’t dwell on them.

I’ve previously written about some of the games Sid had a hand in creating, including a few that had his name on the box: Sid Meier’s Civilization, Sid Meier’s Colonization, and even Magic The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers.

How to Valentine’s Day: Roll a Natural 20 for the Geek in your Life.

Here’s the thing. Flowers, going out to dinner, cards, and candy are all the cliches for Valentine’s Day that couples get each other.

Now, I’m not saying they’re all bad. But unless those cards are Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, or Spellfire, it’s not inherently going to be the cards your geek wants to receive.

It’s not bad that you put in some effort, but to go the extra mile, I’m here to help you make it special.

Masters of Doom by David Kushner

Sometimes the story is of the game and not just in the game.

Such is the case for my favorite games Wolfenstein 3-D, Doom, Quake, I played them all and I played them a lot. On occasion I still pull out the original Quake and play away my stress by blasting monsters to bits. So I was intrigued when I learned of Masters of Doom by David Kushner about the two Johns; Carmack and Romero, who came together to create these games and more.

Amber Waves of Game

A Special Field Report from Agent Waves

I grew up in a family of geeks.

I spent my childhood fighting over who got to be Mario with my three brothers and spending every other Friday at the local comic shop catching up on my weekly’s. So naturally, I always loved every new Nintendo & Sega system put in front of me, and I was smitten with games like Shenmue and Luigi’s Mansion.
