Observations from the 2022 Tour de France

The Tour de France departed Copenhague for Paris on July 1. This, the 109th Edition of the Tour, not only featured a start in Denmark, but a Danish winner, a Belgian who dominated, and a tremendous display of athleticism and sportsmanship that just so happened to end on the same day as Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift started.

It was an enthralling year, but it really boiled down to just a few dramas in the end. Who would win in the duel between two-time former winner Tadej Pogacar and last year’s runner-up Jonas Vingegaard? And just how dominant can Wout van Aert be?

Field of Red Tape: ‘Our Team’ is a fantastic study of stadium ownership through the lens of the SWB Red Barons

Our Team Scranton Wilkes-Barre Red Barons

Our Team: Insights from the Publicly Owned Scraton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, is a brilliant case study. It reads both informationally and educationally like a complex short story focused on government, improvement, and a central question; “Should local government own the home team to protect the public’s facility investment?”

Now, before I go on, context is necessary, for both the book and for my relationship to the area. The book was published in 1999.

Black and Blue is a bruising baseball history of the ’66 World Series

Black and Blue Tom Adelman Book Review

I’ve never met Tom Adelman, but I feel as though we just had a wonderful conversation. Black and Blue: The Golden Arm, the Robinson Boys, and the 1966 World Series That Stunned America was the conversation we shared.

This book is fantastic, and that’s coming from an Orioles fan who has also enjoyed Dodger baseball for the past decade plus. Through telecasts I’ve absorbed the history of both clubs, but this book does something else.

‘Man in the Arena’ builds new autobiographical medium as it celebrates Tom Brady

Man in the Arena - Tom Brady ESPN Plus

Love him or hate him, Tom Brady has been a winner throughout his career. With Man in the Arena, he may also prove himself as a pioneer.

I absolutely love reading biographies, and I know that as autobiographies you need to take the information with a grain of salt.

Man in the Arena is Tom Brady’s video autobiography. With 9 of the ten episodes released, I can tell you that it’s possible that we’ll see more series like this in the future.

Three Riders Reach or Surpass Merkx Records and More from the 2021 Tour de France

Tour de France 2020 Recap

184 riders took off from Brest on June 26th to start the 2021 edition of the Tour de France. Three weeks later, 141 riders took the start to complete the Tour in Paris on the Champs-Elysees.

What took place during the stages in-between, may not have been unprecedented, but it certainly was compelling. Here is my recap of the 5 most important takeaways from this year’s race.
