MTV is planning to launch a televised Shannara series. I imagine my reaction to the announcement was shared by most fans of the popular fantasy novels. MTV, really? The network known for producing reality television was taking on the massive undertaking of adapting Terry Brooks’ novel, The Elfstones of Shannara.

My initial anticipation was tepid given my negative perception of the network’s programming.

This past weekend thousands of my fellow geeks descended upon San Diego, California for the 2015 Edition of the Annual San Diego Comic Con. And while I did not attend, I kept a keen eye on my Twitter feed.

Unlike most Comic Conventions, San Diego Comic Con isn’t just about the comic books; their artists and writers, it’s become an annual launchpad for movies and television announcements and debuts.

Here’s my recap of the ten things that caught my eye from this year’s Con!

2015’s summer blockbusters have consisted primarily of reboots and sequels. Many older franchises have released new films in efforts to revitalize their fandom. Mad Max: Fury Road and Jurassic World were success stories that Terminator Genisys sought to duplicate.

Unfortunately, rebooting Skynet proved predictably problematic.

The United States Women won their third FIFA Women’s World Cup title in Canada, in spite of looking and performing below their World #2 ranking at times.

But before I examine what it all means and what is next in the riddle that is Soccer in America, let’s take a look at how they got the Cup.
