MTV is planning to launch a televised Shannara series. I imagine my reaction to the announcement was shared by most fans of the popular fantasy novels. MTV, really? The network known for producing reality television was taking on the massive undertaking of adapting Terry Brooks’ novel, The Elfstones of Shannara.
My initial anticipation was tepid given my negative perception of the network’s programming.

This past weekend thousands of my fellow geeks descended upon San Diego, California for the 2015 Edition of the Annual San Diego Comic Con. And while I did not attend, I kept a keen eye on my Twitter feed.
Unlike most Comic Conventions, San Diego Comic Con isn’t just about the comic books; their artists and writers, it’s become an annual launchpad for movies and television announcements and debuts.

In 1989, Ralph Bakshi submitted “This Ain’t Bebop” to PBS’s Imaging America anthology, consisting of four shorts. The whole short is based around one man, played by Harvey Keitel, trying to reclaim the life he once had. It’s origin lies in a poem recanted throughout the short, which was written by Bakshi himself.
