San Diego Comic Con 2015

This past weekend thousands of my fellow geeks descended upon San Diego, California for the 2015 Edition of the Annual San Diego Comic Con. And while I did not attend, I kept a keen eye on my Twitter feed.

Unlike most Comic Conventions, San Diego Comic Con isn’t just about the comic books; their artists and writers, it’s become an annual launchpad for movies and television announcements and debuts.

Here’s my recap of the ten things that caught my eye from this year’s Con!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Trailer

A new trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice dropped and this one means business. This paints a much better and broader picture of the movie coming out on March 25th, 2016.

Batfleck is Going Solo

Another huge DC announcement revolving around the Dark Knight at the Con this year was the news that a new stand-alone movie for “Batman” will be coming and it will be directed and co-written by Batman himself, Ben Affleck.

First Look at MTV’s Shannara Chronicles

I haven’t read the entire Shannara series by Terry Brooks, but I did read the original trilogy of The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara. The new trailer released at the Con does alleviate some of my trepidation about such a grand fantasy being in the hands of MTV. (Check out Agent Z’s thoughts on this trailer The Shannara Chronicles – The Hype and The Hope.)

Star Wars is building an Empire

No we didn’t get any new looks at Star Wars Episode VII, but we did hear that the first Anthology film Rogue One starts shooting soon and that Han Solo will be featured in the next Anthology film following that.

And let’s not forget how awesome it was to see images of the original trio from the original trilogy on the stage together.

Hints at the Resurrection of Firefly

During an interview on day two of the Con, Firefly’s Alan Tudyk said, “personally, I think it will come back,” referring to Firefly, a show prematurely cancelled by Fox. Although series creator Joss Whedon has said it won’t be returning, there is still hope.

Meet the New Ghostbusters

Director Paul Feig shared Con goers and the rest of the world the first look at the cast of the Ghostbusters reboot in costume. Only time will tell if the reboot will be a bust or not, but they look good, so that has to count for something.

It’s Groovy to see you Ash

Also released at the Con was the first official trailer for the Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead, and I have just one word… Groovy.

Agent Carter Goes to Hollywood and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Rumors

Agent Carter’s second season won’t be set in New York, as she and the cast go west to Hollywood. And the rumors on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s upcoming season involve three mights; Skye might be Quake, the ship might be called Zephyr 1, and Coulson and Skye might be running a new team called “Secret Warriors.”

Deadpool, Deadpool, Deadpool!

The Merc with a Mouth is coming to a theater near you in 2016… Enough said.

Suicide Squad Teased

Although some footage has been leaked online, I am aware that a ton of people are interested (even if only mildly), so it’s only a matter of time before the official trailer gets released.

Yes there was plenty of other news and announcements and trailers and teasers, but in no particular order, these are my Top 10. I’m sure everyone’s list is different, but there is so much going on and so much announced, you need to temper your excitement a bit, or you’ll wear yourself out.
