Of all things Geek. I am…

From Star Wars Episode I to Episode VII: The Importance of Balance between Computer and Practical Effects

Star Wars Episode VII Real Puppets

I am a fan of Star Wars, but not a fanatic. I grew up watching the original trilogy as it was intended and when the “updated” versions of the original trilogy hit store shelves, I was not educated enough, nor fanatical to have a real opinion. But now, as Episode VII is being filmed, it’s time to geek out for a bit.

First off, let’s talk about Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. I remember standing in line, at about 5:00 p.m. for the midnight show, on a school night.

2014 Lehigh Valley Fan Festival at the Allentown Brew Works: Many Fandoms together in one Festival

2014 Lehigh Valley Fan Fest

Fan Festivals are like Comic Conventions, with a lesser emphasis on comic books themselves. So, I had a few expectations when I attended the 2014 Lehigh Valley Fan Festival this past weekend.

Attempting Normal by Marc Maron the Podcasting Philosophizer

Attempting Normal by Marc Maron

Marc Maron isn’t just a comedian and podcaster. He is a philosopher, as well. If you need proof of this beyond some of the profound things he says during his comedic sets and podcasts, look no further than his book Attempting Normal. He airs out his life, not like dirty laundry but much more like freshly laundered shirts on a warm spring day.

The stories are all personal to Marc: some are issues he may still be dealing with, but they aren’t written as if he’s airing dirty laundry. In fact, he spends time making sure the other side of the story is there as well.

Kurt Busch’s attempted the NASCAR Indy Double because he’s a Racer

Seriously, it is that simple, that is what the man said. When asked why he was compelled to do the Double, Kurt Busch replied, “I’m a racer.” I’m sold, you’re a racer, but the Double is different territory.

While most of America was getting ready for a Sunday barbecue, Kurt Busch was in an Indy Car at the Indianapolis Speedway for 500 miles of racing as a rookie in the Indianapolis 500. That was to be the start of his day.
