Encyclopedia Britannica: In Print No More

Encyclopedia Britannica In Print No More

This week, the news broke that Encyclopedia Britannica will no longer be printing it’s massive volumes of knowledge, instead it will be an online resource. This is big news and a very frightening thing if I may say so, to some much more than others.

Since the 1900’s there have been 6 generations: the Greatest Generation, the Silent Generation, the Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y, and the currently named, and most recent generation, Generation Z.

Thanks to a friend, I’ve entered the World of Shannara

The Sword of Shannara Trilogy by Terry Brooks

So, thanks to Jason Zapata Wordsmith’s constant badgering, I finally picked up the book that started it all for him; The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks. He’s been telling me for years about the series and I finally broke down and bought it and then I started to read.

The book is great and as I didn’t just purchase one book, I purchased the trilogy as a whole, so I will be reading the rest.

Every once in a while I have to beat NFL Street

NFL Street 1 Nintendo Gamecube

NFL Street, the original on GameCube is a game that I thoroughly enjoy. Even once in a while I get the urge to beat it and recently I got the urge.

I pretty much play it the same way every time. I go through the challenges and build up my custom team, complete with naming my characters.

I’m amazed by some games like this.

Crashes, twisted metal & fire. Not Michael Bay, Daytona

It was wrecks, fire and delays. And it wasn’t a Michael Bay remake of Days of Thunder. It was the actual race.

Huzzah! 500 Episodes… Well done Simpsons, well done.

The Simpsons 500th episode

It’s not often that a cartoon series lasts for 23 years. In retrospect it seems downright implausible that a cartoon series on FOX would last that long as they did prematurely terminate Family Guy (only to resurrect it) and Futurama (which was resurrected after great straight to DVD sales).

So, The Simpsons hit the 500 episode mark and that should be and was celebrated.
